Shia is a pretty damn good actor. He just has a bad rep.
Also, anyone can do Han Solo. You just point with your finger a lot and pronounce sentences half-garbled.
I'm uncomfortable with a cannibal participating in the Star Wars movies. What kind of message does that send to the audience?
This is exactly the kind of movie I hoped they wouldn't make. Trying to extort some more out of characters that really don't need to be reinvented. Ah, well.

I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen *anything* to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls *my* destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.

Now I want to see Shia LaBeouf guest star in the new Ash vs. Evil Dead series.

I would love it if you could be an extra in the movie. Or hell, any upcoming star wars movie.
Lucasfilm's Force for Change charity chose one person who donated at least $10 to be in a scene in the Force Awakens.
And while I'm not actually *in* a Star Wars movie, I got to officially name a few characters in Attack of the Clones, and named one of them after Lisa and myself.
(The others I named are Artuo Pratuhr and the Nalle triplets.)
