Hi!
I was wondering what you guys think is the hardest monster/BBEG to defeat in pathfinder
You do not have to have actually fought this boss before.
I think it is probably the tarrasque ( &%$# how is their immunity list so long) They have a freakin 500 hit points and immunnity to most magic and all death effects, negative energy, and more.
Just wondering what you guys think it is

Tarrasque is annoying to finish off - but not really that difficult for CR 20.
The hardest for their CR is a Quickling with 4 levels of Unchained Rogue/heroic stats/decent gear - with Moonlight Stalker just for extra damage. Oh - and who isn't too proud to run off only to come back when the group least suspects it. (Scariest CR 7 ever!)

Cr rating is really not that helpful
Lets say your lvl 1 would you rather fight a tarrasque or a unchained rogue

Who's the toughest BBEG? Well there's technically an objective answer to that: Deskari from Wrath of the Righteous. Deskari could turn the tarrasque into his personal lapdog were he so inclined, and could probably kill every other BBEG at once in a few rounds. The thing is though, that by the time the PCs fight Deskari, they are 20th level with 10 mythic tiers. Essentially demigods.
So who's the toughest BBEG, taking into account the PC's level? I think Nyrissa from Kingmaker is about as tough as you'll find in terms of spellcasters.
Who's the toughest monster? Well, the Oliphaunt from Jandelay is challenge rating 30. He's sort of the tarrasque for mythic characters. By that I mean, the tarrasque was designed to be the most dangerous monster that normal, non-mythic 20th-level characters could take on. The Oliphaunt of Jandelay - a similarly gigantic, world-shattering monster - is probably about as tough as a party of 20th-level, tier 10 PCs can take.

It's not hard to get a tarrasque to agree to anything, actually. We're very agreeable. Especially about lunch (as long as you're buying and I'm eating).

The dragon does not even stand a chance
I think you are forgetting that a tarrasque also has a ranged weapon

The tarrasque's ranged attacks are pretty negligible - they'll only hit the dragon on 20's.
As to them coming back - most Great Wyrms cast as 19th level sorcerers. There's a good chance that they have Wish, or have access to the same. Or at the very least they could cast something to get rid of the tarrasque while it's unconscious.

Lucifer has some scary numbers (CR 39, AC 74, 943HP, and +71 to hit on his first trident strike being pretty daunting), as well as his nasty gaze effects, but his lack of immunities makes him less threatening. Going in melee combat and expecting to win would be foolish, but you can hope he rolls a few 1s when trying to dominate him so you can try to make Luci your bodyguard. That said, so long as the DM plays him smart, he's a toughy.
If we're factoring in things like immortality, then there would be a draw - with the Great Old Ones, the Tarrasque, and a few other nasties meeting at a stalemate and then deciding to go for tea. Or maybe a nap.

Drakaina is one of the hardest monster in the game (Bestiary 4), not only can she create monsters that would counter your party tactics, she can use them as health battery and even transfer any bad condition you would manage to cast on her to her offsprings. She usually works around with a horde of spawns and minions, can heal every single of them with maximized channel energy like a 20th level cleric. Drakaina can create a cr 21 creature or combination of creatures worth cr 21 in total every 24 hours with mutation and worst part...it is part of her CR, so you wouldn't even get extra xp for killing her horde of spawns and minions.
To finish it all of, Drakaina can impregnate your character male or female. If you are non-mythic, you are out of luck, as it always succeed, only mythic creatures can make the save. You are pregnant for a brief amount of rounds (4 on average), the creature burst out from you, as you take 10d6 damage and your armor get the broken condition...
Did I mention that she has constant freedom of movement and true seeing too?

The problem is that spell casters can easily take out lucifier due to his lack of defense

Very true, and quite unfortunate. Though, if he was allowed to summon all of the arch devils (something he can do once a week) and they obeyed him, then he'd be quite a bit harder.

If you give him halfway decent gear for his CR - it'd shore up a lot of those weaknesses.

That's the old rules (pre-Pathfinder). The original tarrasque required a wish after being killed to make it permanent. The current tarrasque rules do not include that option.
Unless my copy of the Bestiary is out of date, the tarrasque's Regeneration rule states that the method to permanently kill the tarrasque has not been discovered. It's a safe bet in the eons that the tarrasque as existed that people have tried wishes before....

Just hurt it and it never gets up again. It's not quite a strong enough version of immortality.

What do you need that much xp for?
Well, if you're actually fighting a CR 39 bad guy, that means you're not 20th level. Even Mythic tiers won't get you there. So you must have advanced past 20th level.
Here's the medium XP chart extended up to 40th level:

So as you can see, even if you're 35th level and your party is taking on an "epic" battle (+4 CR over your APL), you already have 68 Billion XP. Yep, Billion with a "B". When you kill Lucifer for a mere 209,920,000xp, each party member will only get 52,480,000xp. You would have to kill Luciver 1,312 times to level up.
So yeah, you need that XP. All of it.

Or a couple of level 1 fighters. It only has DR 15 - a level 1 fighter with STR 18, PA, & a greatsword averages 16 damage per hit - excluding crits.
Or just drag it to/build around it one of the many types of traps which rearm themselves and average 20+ damage/round.

Even if you can't technically kill it - there are plenty of ways to dispose of it.
