Attention Pathfinders:

Each year, on the Wednesday before Gen Con, the Indianapolis Lodge hosts Pathfinder Society Gaming at Scotty's Brewhouse in downtown Indianapolis. This year, PFS gaming returns to that venue on Wednesday, July 29! As well, we are working on scheduling a table of the Adventure Card Game in the morning and the afternoon slots.

I'm still working on getting a few more scenarios/GMs to round out the tables we have, so the offerings should increase a tad.) If anyone has a particular scenario you would like to play in or to run, let me know (mark.stratton@gmail.com) whether you want to play it or run it, and in which slot. The evening slot is full (we only have 3 tables). I don't have many more tables, so a request may not be able to be granted.

There will be 3 slots:
8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
12:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Gaming will start at 8:00 a.m.; food service will start at 9:00 a.m. Though there is no cost to register or to play, all players and GMs, at every table, in every slot, are expected to purchase food, beverages, etc. There is not a lot of room (it gets pretty crowded starting just before lunch), so you shouldn't bring lots of extra stuff with you.

If you are interested in joining us, hop on over to the Warhorn HERE, register, and then sign up for a few games.

I look forward to seeing you (both the veterans of our Scotty's events and new Pathfinders!)

Signed up for the things, although I'm wait listed in the afternoon slot. These things fill up fast.

Horizon Hunters 4/5 5/5 ***

Well, I do have an extra table in the afternoon that I might split one of the larger wait-listed tables to, and as we get closer, if some tables don't look like they have much interest, I can dump them for something else. :-D

3/5 *

Holy cow! I've been sitting at home watching the status of this signup and these boards for a week or two and nothing. I step out to run an errand come back, and things are wait-listed to an extreme! LOL, such a good event, good for it's popularity. I got into the 3-parter you added for me though, so thanks! I just hope we find GMs for all three parts (it looks like we have a GM for the last part already)... Maybe one of the VO's out there who were avoiding taking on all 3 due to the 3rd-slot meeting would be willing to GM parts 1 and 2? :)

I decided to sign up to GM part 2 for the Skykey. I ran it last night and had a blast.

3/5 *

Awesome, thanks! I very much look forward to it. Games are always better when run by someone who truly enjoys the scenario.

3/5 *

Just need a GM and a couple more players for part 1 and we'll be all set, with at least a couple of us at multiple sessions. There's even room for 1 person to play all 3 tables still!

Silver Crusade 5/5

Hi! Myself and two other local GM's are going to be at Scotty's, and were wondering if we could get a table of The Darkest Abduction for the AM slot?

Only one extra table for the 12:30 slot, Mark? I know the evening tables were always limited, but it seemed like last year there were quite a bit more 12:30 tables.

3/5 *

I just noticed that now my name has 2 shiny stars next to it instead of one. Yay!

Liberty's Edge 4/5 5/5

I can do part 1 let me take a look

Got it.

Wow, this filled up way faster then last year. Maybe next year if possible a larger venue should be found. Or maybe run 2 events across 2 locations.

There are a total of 9 tables in the afternoon slot, not all of which have been scheduled. At least one of the extra tables is likely to be for the Adventure Card Game. 9 tables in that slot is what we had last year.

Grand Lodge 2/5

Lol yeah this did fill up much faster. I come home from work and most things are filled up and wait listed. Which hopefully things will open up,but I am glad to see that the event is doing so well!

Wow, eleven people are signed up for my table. I've never felt so popular in my whole life!

I wait listed myself on that table, Figure I would try to steal your popularity <grins> Mark I emailed you.

Eric it would have been 15! I originally requested that be run and was hoping to sign-up for it with my sons and friend. I logged on 20 minutes late and there was already 8 signed up on the table so I grab 2 and 2 on the wait list for the only other thing we haven't played 6-15. Hopefully, we will all get to play as it was definitely a GENCON highlight last year and we would love to play at Scotty's again this year too!

Well I think in the past we ran at Arsenal at the same time, but Arsenal is no more. I know some of the stores shut down around GenCon. Do we know if any of the other stores we tend to play at will be open that day, Mark? Like maybe Saltire or Hero's Emporium?

Liberty's Edge 4/5 5/5

I think both those stores close at some point during GenCon, but I can ask at HE for that Wednesday. A note that both of those locations are about ~30min drive from downtown depending on traffic on Wednesday, I live near that side of town and sometimes it takes 45 mins to get home from where I work.

Horizon Hunters 4/5 5/5 ***

I highly doubt the other stores will be open during Gen Con, but I can't speak for them. As well, for this event, I don't arrange game play at any place other than Scotty's.

Horizon Hunters 4/5 5/5 ***

Oh, and since I'm sure to be asked:

Some tables are set for 4 players plus a GM; others are set for 6 players plus a GM. Those tables cannot exceed those limits - so, there will be no 7 person tables, and the 4 player tables won't increase to 5. It's just a matter of space (and in the case of the 4 player tables, those are actually small booths that can't handle any more players. The GM would set at the end of the table in that configuration.)

Horizon Hunters 4/5 5/5 ***

All: I've filled out the remaining tables, except for the ones I'm holding for the ACG. In some cases, where the afternoon slots are overly full, I've added additional tables for some of those scenarios in the MORNING slot. I'm trying to work this out as best I can, but I think this arrangement will have to do.

It didn't fill up this quickly last year, and sign ups didn't start until much closer to the event itself.

Thanks in advance, all, for helping to make this a success!

Silver Crusade 5/5

Thanks for setting up a table of Darkest Abduction!

Silver Crusade 5/5

And thanks for organizing the event again this year!

Grand Lodge 2/5

Yes, thank you for getting this all together, I just wish there was a way to get more room, I always hate seeing players turned away.

1/5

It would seem we're victims of our own success...

Thanks to Mark and everyone who make this a fantastic kickoff event!!!

I wonder if there is anything we can do outside-the-box for 2016 to allow for the natural growth of this event, but still retain its character.

Aside from that, I officially volunteer to run the Free RPG day scenario at noon(ish) in 2016 (I figure I'll get ahead of the rush... lol)

See you there!
--Tom

Horizon Hunters 4/5 5/5 ***

Well, first, we can't refer to it as the "Free RPG Day scenario" unless it's being run ON the Free RPG Day. :)

Second, I plan to talk with Scotty's and see what we can do. I don't like the thought of moving the event (for next year or beyond)to another venue (Scotty's has been great for us), and doing the dual-venue like we did a few years ago gives me some logistical concerns. I hope we can figure something out.

There is nothing I can do for those tables where they have 12-13 people - I can't get more tables, I can't make more room for them. I'm just going to have people that won't be able to play, or will need to sign up for another open slot somewhere throughout the day.

I honestly feel terrible that I can't accommodate everyone, but I work with what I have (and let's face it - a restaurant who gives us, without charge, 21 of its tables to use throughout the day is BEYOND generous, so I don't have any complaints with them.) But, I may have a trick or two up my sleeve so I'm not giving up all hope just yet.

And, let's be honest - we're in this position because of all of YOU who really have made this event the success that it is.

4/5

Don't feel bad, Mark. If there are that many people with time on their hands there is no reason they can't organize games to play in their hotel rooms. People just have to step up and volunteer to GM.

Shadow Lodge 4/5 **** Venture-Captain, Michigan—Mt. Pleasant

Well, looks like I'm destined to only play every other Gen Con at Scotty's. :) Looks like you'll have your hands full Mark. Just means we won't have to leave so early to get to Indy. :D

OR you could sign up to run The Overflow Archives at 8:00 am, make 4 gamers and Mark happy in the process.

Shadow Lodge 4/5 **** Venture-Captain, Michigan—Mt. Pleasant

Ummm... no. We'd have to leave at 3am to get there in time. I'm too big of a fan of sleep for that. ;)

Horizon Hunters 4/5 5/5 ***

All:

I am still looking for two GMs for the following:

8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
6-15: The Overflow Archives (1-5)
6-18: From Under Ice (1-5)

I added these tables in the morning to accommodate some of the waitlisted players from the afternoon slots (I couldn't add the tables to the afternoon slot.) I'd certainly appreciate if a couple of folks could GM these for us!

Currently, all other GM slots are filled (and it looks like a couple of GMs are waitlisted later in the day, but unless the primary GM fails to show up, I won't need the waitlisted GMs because there won't be extra tables for me to put them at.)

Thanks!

Silver Crusade 2/5

I can help things a bit, not by GM'ing but rather by dropping out of the games for which I had signed up. Had a blast last year at this event, but alas Gen Con is not in my 2015 future (nor pocketbook!).

Game on!
- Corey

Liberty's Edge 4/5 5/5

Perhaps next year!

Horizon Hunters 4/5 5/5 ***

All:

I have added 4 sessions of the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game!

Slots are from :

8-10:15: WotR 1-1A: Cloven Trail
10:15-12:30: WotR 1-1B: Instant Inquisition
12:30-2:30: WotR 1-1C: Get to Fort Clearwater
3:00 - 5:00: WotR 1-1D: Crusders Assemble!

Realistically, the slots can run about 2 hours and 15 minutes (except for the afternoon slots, since the last afternoon table for this game MUST be done by 5 p.m.) but Warhorn won't allow me to set a session for that length.

I've scheduled scenarios from Wrath of the Righteous!

So, pop on over to the Warhorn and sign up!

Lantern Lodge 1/5

Mark, myself and 3 friends will be getting into Indy in the early afternoon, and would love to participate in the 5pm slot. 3 of us have been GMs before and would be willing to run the game for a table, which would open up another 3 slots for other players as well. Not sure if you have the option to add any more tables or not.

We've always planned to play a game on Wednesday night when we get there. Didn't realize until now there was this event going on as well. :)

Thanks for the offer - I really do appreciate it, but we only get the three tables in that slot, and no more. I can't add any more tables to that slot.

But, I'm sure if you could find a place to run, others might be interested!!

Thanks again!

Here is an idea; have a overflow area, anyone who can't get into a game meets here. And maybe some groups can form themselves into groups and some players may have downtown hotel rooms that a game can be run.

That will take you out of the organization of the groups but could appease some people who are frustrated that everything is already filled up.

There is nothing preventing people from forming groups and starting PFS games at other locations on their own, and since this is GenCon there is likely all types of gaming going on the in countless hotel rooms, but asking Mark to help organize such a thing and be responsible for what may or may not happen in those games is unreasonable.

It is one thing to organize an event at a single location but to try and organize games without having a set location causes issues specially when you take into account that more than one person may be sharing any given hotel room and not want to be kept up by a "surprise" PFS game their roommate did not tell them about. Then there is also the problem of what happens when you send a group of people to a location and one of them disappears. This is all beyond the scope of what to expect of an event organizer.

Grand Lodge 5/5 Regional Venture-Coordinator, Baltic

IIRC there are quite a few hotels that don't mind if people run a game in their lobby (as long as the players aren't a nuisance and buy something at the bar), but it would be best to check this beforehand.

I don't have any time to look for and secure an overflow area. Between organizing Scotty's, prepping as a Tier 1 GM, trying to organize a local con here next weekend, I just don't have the time to find and secure a place. It sounds easy to do, but it really isn't.

I wish that we could accommodate everyone at Scotty's, but that's not possible. I posted the signups a lot earlier than we had in the past, and they went much faster than normal.

I honestly feel badly that I can't get a seat for everyone who wants one, but it's just not possible, practical, or feasible for me to look for another place for people to meet up and try to put together games. People can do that on their own (on these boards, FB, etc.) But, it's not realistic or practical for me to do that.

Mark-I think your doing a great job with what you have to work with, just trying to brainstorm ideas.

Mark, I'm not sure those scrolls of Mass Reduce Person will work... If something goes wrong the clean up will just be plain messy and we might not be allowed back next year.

Lantern Lodge 1/5

No sweat at all, Mark! I think it's awesome that you guys are able to do as much as you are already.

I'll look around and see what else I might be able to find. Almost every year, my group of friends have done some RPG stuff of some sort on Wednesday night. This was just the first time I noticed there was organized PFS stuff going on. Typically, the hotels have areas set aside with tables that work quite well for gaming groups throughout the weekend. I'll do some digging and see what I can find.

At the moment, we'd only have 3 players for our group, so could easily accommodate a few more. Will try to remember to post here and file an official PFS event in the paizo system so people can find us. :D

Grand Lodge 2/5

What kinda sucks is a few years ago, before I knew about Scotty's there was a group of people who ran a whole bunch of PFS games at Union Station and they gave away cool gifts to GM's. But I think they were told to stop by Paizo because it took away from the Scotty's event or such. Kinda wish that had not occurred.

IIRC the cool gifts where using trademarked material without the proper permission.

I don't think so, it was terrain like barrels and boxes and such that they made and painted.

There were other circumstances that we can't go into as to why things went down the way they did.
