Hi all,
I'm practicing interpreting the Harrow Deck cards and I'd like for you to ask me questions (one at a time/one each) pertaining to your character or the quest your character is on.
As an unbiased, unknowing party in your campaign, I will attempt to divine the answers to your questions by performing a harrow reading.
Please state your question and include a number between 1 and 9 for me to draw your Role Card necessary for the reading. And as per the Harrow Handbook, although questions about Wealth and Revenge are taboo, they are not forbidden. Questions about the details of your death however, are forbidden.
Optionally, include the deity you worship so that I may channel them in the reading.
And, lastly, thank you for letting me practice :)

You could also use the time Honoured method of reading actual tarot cards, they carry with them a huge lot of mystique and immersion and because their names are not straightforward you can draw whatever and say whatever to most groups of people and they wont ever care because they dont know whatever they mean anyway.
But whatever, the harrow deck is cool too :P
Question 1: Paladin Kestros who is fighting to overthrow the despondent ruler of Prussia is suffering because a band of violent adventurers are killing everything they encounter in the city. How should kestros proceed? 1.
Question 2: Quibbly the Otyugh met his old friend Mororg and his new wife "Wifey" in the sewer. Quibbly is a smart Otyugh and he is worried that wifey isnt Wifey´s real name, but a replacement because Mororg may not be smart enough to remember her actual name. Should Quibbly report Mororg for domestic negligence? 6
Question 3: Wolthyr the Astral Deva just ended his vigil over a holy treasure vault and returned to heaven for the first time in centauries, it would seem that his old home and garden have been consumed by the maelstrom of chaos during a planar instability event. How should Wolthyr proceed? 5

icantfallasleep |

I love your questions!
Question 1: Just a clarification, is Kestros fighting for the ruler of Prussia and against the violent adventurers, or against the ruler of Prussia and with the violent adventurers?
Question 2: Quibbly, the gods have been very clear in your reading, offering little to no flexibility in your tapestry of fates. You have revealed The Liar as your role card, which makes it significantly important. It is love at it's most treacherous, love that hurts and rips the heart in two. The Brass Dwarf shows you are unwavering and resolute, and that while others may fall or be deceived, you alone stand strong. The Forge shows you are faced with diversity and trials, unlike any you've faced in the past. One tactic will not be enough to handle your present obstacle, and you will need to find multiple more delicate ways to overcome such a task. And how appropriate that the Publican is revealed by the fates in it's truest form, The Publican who is the embodiment of fellowship and camaraderie. And finally, The Beating, showing me that in your future, you will have a mental collapse as a result of an overwhelming mental or social attack.
It seems Quibbly, when reading this spread in unison, that you must tread lightly, for if the fates have divined accurately, you are the one who is lying, to yourself, potentially about your feelings for Wifey. I, as your harrower, offer you caution. Tread lightly, as it has been divined that such course of action will most certainly result in loss, either of friendship or love, or both.
Question 3: Wolthyr, are you inquiring about revenge or about rebuilding your garden, or about your indecision between these two choices?
Finally, thank you for the opportunity to practice.

Question 1: Antonio the gypsy rogue has found out that the assassins in the town are lead by vampires. He is afraid of them and their power, but intrigued by the power and wealth that follows their organisation.
Should he help his friend the "naive" dwarven rogue Dranbalt to contact the church of Kelemvor and destroy the vampires, or should he search them out for a possibility to join the assassins guild?
7
Antonio is neutral evil, Follower of Mask.
Question 2: Should Antonio the rogue help in destroying the foothold of the church of Talona in the town, or support their work? The town is struck by a deadly plague.

Question 3: Theodor the gnomish bard is branded a traitor in the eyes of Lathander (rightfully so) based on some dangerous prank he pulled on one of their apprentices. He does not see the error of his ways because humans dont really get his humor, but his only source of healing is a priest of Lathander. Should he swallow his pride and lipservice for forgiveness, or were the humans just wrong, because they never understood his joke?
Theodor is chaotic neutral, follower of Tymora.

I love Harrow readings! This is so awesome!
1) Myranna d'Auver, elven priestess of Pharasma, has caused a commotion in her church by campaigning for good and neutral-aligned undead to be accepted into the fold instead of destroyed. To prove her point, she is transitioning into lichdom through a ritual that does not involve any acts of unspeakable evil. The question is: will she succeed in her goal of shifting the views of the church of Pharasma? 4
2) Vyr, satyr sorcerer of the Martyred bloodline, has discovered that his mother was a Mendevian crusader that sacrificed her life for the greater good, and that such sacrifices have been common throughout his family tree. As a worshipper of Chadali, he feels his fate is out of his hands, and that he will too, sacrifice himself as it is foretold. The question is: is this true? Is he fated to follow the footsteps of his family? Not sure if this question is allowed, as it is Death-related, but perhaps you can pass it as Family-related? 3
Looking forward to the readings! :D

I love your questions!
Question 1: Just a clarification, is Kestros fighting for the ruler of Prussia and against the violent adventurers, or against the ruler of Prussia and with the violent adventurers?
[/i]
The adventurers are a violent wildcard that both the king's men and Kestros wish to use in their favor, but the adventurers have proven to be unreliable allies.
Question 3: Wolthyr, are you inquiring about revenge or about rebuilding your garden, or about your indecision between these two choices?
Wolthyr is lost and seeks the harrod deck reader to tell him what action to pursue, be it revenge, rebuilding or something else entirely.
.
Also, Damn, Quibbly the otyugh has some serious social issues, I wonder if there is an Otyugh shrink somewhere around?

Role Card:
The MidwifePast:
The Midwife
The Inquisitor
The Foreign Trader
Present:
The Lost
The Cricket
The Wanderer
Future:
The Hidden Truth
The Crows
The Eclipse
Reading: Ah Antonio, a inquiry of duality and opposing morality. Although your question is vague, "which path should you choose", you have not mentioned your desired outcome. Am I to interpret what the fates see as pre-destined? Or divine the outcome of a single one of these choices and see if it will be fruitful? Because it is unclear what it is you seek, I will instead channel the Gods to help paint a general picture of the decision at hand. Normally this vagueness invites wild inaccuracy, but I will see to it that the interpretations prove to be meaningful.
You have selected The Midwife, and it is fitting that in your inquiry, you are on the cusp of rebirth, a significant shift in attitude. In the past, The Midwife appears again, and it is telling me that there was a new arrival, either of information or of a person, and that this arrival has altered you in a positive way. This arival can be from within, or it can be an external source, it is unclear in your spread. You also seek the truth, shown here by The Inquisitor. You wish not to be fooled and are resolute in your concerns and in your quest for what is accurate and true. You are as motivated as The Inquisitor in this endeavor.
I see here that The Cricket and The Wanderer speak together as one. The Wanderer sees value and worth in what others would otherwise ignore and deem meaningless, and The Cricket cautions to react fast to get that which you seek in the end. Whether it be information, or an item, or power, they together caution to be resoureful and find use in what others ignore and disregard, for it is in that which you will find most valuable. Based on The Wanderers and The Crickets position in your spread however, it may be too late, and such an opportunity to redeem such insight may have already passed or it indicates that in your immediate future, you will likely not notice it go by until it is too late. The Cricket is quick of mind and quick of body. He speaks of a moments notice, a brief capture of time, within which you must act to gain the peach at the end, represented in the picture on his card, that which he cherishes as the treasure to come.
Finally, The Hidden Truth and The Eclipse ... and although unmatched, The Crows are being quite vocal and desire to be interpreted. In your tapestry of fates, you will be invited to see past the obvious to find the greater truth beyond. There will also come a time where you will be witness to or be the target of self-doubt and loss of purpose. However, it is The Crows who speak to me most. They represent a dangerous collective. They personify murder, theft and shocking loss, something that is unavoidable in your future.
When reading your harrow spread as a whole, I see that you quest for the truth, the answer to your desire. The divines foreshadow a great need to see beyond the banal and the worthless and seek wealth and value in places others ignore. Do not lose sight of your purpose in the grand tapestry of fates. Should you stray from this path, the outcome invites disaster and great loss. Your salvation lies in you to be clever enough to appraise value in that which others ignore, or in the less obvious.
*And once again, thank you for letting me practice.*

The Queen MotherPast:
The Winged Serpent
The Liar
The Brass Dwarf
Present:
The Mute Hag
The Courtesan
The Tyrant
Future:
The Desert
The Rabbit Prince
The Joke
Reading: Oh wow, The Queen Mother, I already foresee a good reading. And your Harrow Spread is almost completely full of matches. The Gods have much to say. And although Pharasma is the cold silent and calculating type who sees all beginnings and ends, it seems that channeling her today has brought forth a wealth of divine advice.
First off, off the record of your harrowing, as a fellow worshiper of Pharasma, let me say that you, Myranna, do the spirits of the undead a great service. Not all undead need to be vanquished and most just seek solace and for their ties to the material plane to be concluded so that they may obtain rest. But enough about me. Let's see what the divines have to say ...
You are The Queen Mother, your role in this is clear and I will end your reading by showing you where you fall in this.
The Winged Serpent and The Brass Dwarf both speak to me of events once told. The Brass Dwarf shows that you have been strong, unyielding and where others have fallen, you stood resolute. Together with The Winged Serpent, you have found knowledge and understanding where others have not, and it has made you strong. As The Queen Mother, The Winged Serpent speaks to you with true alignment, as if Pharasma has touched your harrow spread herself.
The Mute Hag symbolizes your secret. She sees through man, and knows all, but she cannot reveal or share the secrets she knows. The Courtesan cautions you of political gameplay, careful negotiations and a delicate balance in social standings. And The Tyrant, shown here by the icy blue dragon which has a tight hold on it's world, represents an overseer or a monarch or a head of a collective which opposes you and which means harm to those who follow him/her. Together they speak to you that you have found knowledge which others have not yet found, and that you have been unable to share it with them for your present path is delicate, and should you falter, it may mean a negative turn in social standing.
Finally, I hear both The Desert and The Rabbit Prince from as far as the Boneyard itself. But first, a word of caution, as in your future, The Joke indicates that you must proceed with means other than physical, since this task will require either trickery, cleverness and possibly humor. This is a clear sign that not everything is handled through destruction and vanquishings but in this case, The Joke highlights the effectiveness of a softer strike. Should you lack the resources to proceed with such diversity, the joke will be on you. Now The Desert shows me that you are not alone in this path. The Desert is a desolate place, one that can test even the strongest, and in order to overcome it, you will need the aid of others. The Sphinx in the image represents, fittingly, a Mystic, which will play an important part in the future to come. And The Rabbit Prince, who usually symbolizes and personifies battle, today rather speaks to me of capriciousness, and that a swift change in attitude or behavior is necessary for a victorious outcome.
You play the role of The Queen Mother in this. She is the literal embodiment of knowledge. You have shown respect and noble cause in your use of knowledge and The Queen Mother has granted you knowledge which others are unaware of, or are not ready for. Furthermore, The Queen Mother is fond of the powerless and values them very much. Finally she also represents the need for a collective and belonging.
Were it not for so many cards to be blessed by the grace of Pharasma herself, I believe your reading might have been a lot shorter. However, as a whole they paint a picture of knowledge, it's worth, your strength in this dilemma and to tread carefully in regards to social and political battles. It is foreshadowed that the secret you hold will come to be shared, but not without the aid of others, and with a more delicate stroke than that of a physical nature.

You are correct. Questions related to ones death only tempt the divines to act upon such notions, typically more swiftly than would have been otherwise. And only harrowers with no respect for the art and the Gods themselves, or frauds and swindlers looking to cheat people out of a few coin, would entertain such divinations.
However, true Harrowers are natural advisers, consultants and therapists. Often, harrowers of a village/town/city will come to know their neighbors darkest secrets and vulnerabilities and it falls on them to provide guidance and solace and peace with difficult tasks and concerns.
I feel that it falls on me to help you with your inquiry, not by diving the fates, but to offer you some food for thought.
Vyr, the tapestry of fates is broad, interwoven and a reflection of many paths that can be taken. Your inquiry of death and of self sacrifice is relative and subjective. Self sacrifice to one is recklessness to another, and it is all in how the picture is painted. Your death, however it may come, shall be painted according to how you have led your life. Should you die in battle by making a wrong decision, some may see this as you provided an opportunity for others to retreat and live to fight another day, while others may see it as foolish abandonment.
While I share your thoughts that our lives are predestined and that the divines know our beginnings and ends, I offer you to live your life by not thinking of it's end, but rather of your impact on others now. Let this guide their judgments of you in your final hour.

I am just so pleased by that reading! No, really, I am so thoroughly giddy that I immediately emailed my GM a link to the post. It's so accurate! What's funny is that I know exactly where The Joke plays into the whole affair (and possibly The Desert too). Myranna's familiar is a Nosoi, and he is an irreverent creature with a razor-sharp wit, who is often the source of clever humour throughout the game.
This, to me, says that the light touch that you mention is going to be suggested/inspired by her familiar, who will also assist her loyally in her goal. And the rest of the party, of course! The Tyrant and Courtesan strike me as a potential peril in the local witch-hunters (this is a Wrath of the Righteous campaign), or at least the church authorities.
Good points about Vyr, too! Kid should learn to relax. xD
Thank you so much for going above and beyond with the Harrow reading! I cannot possibly shower you with enough praise.

Question 1: Paladin Kestros who is fighting to overthrow the despondent ruler of Prussia is suffering because a band of violent adventurers are killing everything they encounter in the city. How should kestros proceed? 1.
The adventurers are a violent wildcard that both the king's men and Kestros wish to use in their favor, but the adventurers have proven to be unreliable allies.
Role Card:
The CyclonePast:
The Marriage
The Owl
The Cricket
Present:
The Wanderer
The Carnival
The Desert
Future:
The Avalanche
The Publican
The Snakebite
Reading: Ah now I understand the need to consult the divines for the task ahead of you is difficult and uncertain.
Now I have your harrowed spread before me and it seems the fates have much to say about what is to come. But first, I see The Marriage and The Owl. They beg to be read together. In The Marriage, I see a union of ideas and in The Owl, the wisdom of the natural order of things. There is a union that has been made that has already proven to be fruitful, contingent that all parties mind their place. I can see however that the natural order has been disturbed, boundaries have been tested and this has been a cause of some turmoil.
Now The Carnival and The Wanderer speak to me of the present. The Carnival shows me that what seems to be real is in fact illusion. More notably however is that is shares with me that current plans are imprudent or that current ambitions are unrealistic. Heed caution. The Wanderer is a collector. He sees value in what others consider to be junk. He favors you today and tells me that a piece of information will come your way and that you will be clever enough to see in it value where others only believe it to be meaningless. This will benefit you and provide you with an advantage.
Finally, your future. Let us start with the unclear. The Publican is embodied fellowship and camaraderie. Someone who may seem inconsequential, will actually hold insights relevant to what you seek. Be open to the idea of a new ally. Now The Snakebite is a poisoned weapon. It is the death of an idea and freedom, but can also be interpreted as literally as the poisonous drips of an assassin's blade. It's true alignment in your spread suggests that in your future, friends may turn against each other and even the minds of the virtuous may end up corrupt. Finally, The Avalanche, it is misaligned and this favors you. The fates speak clearly that an unthinking, unreasoning force is gaining momentum and will be unleashed. It will overwhelm and overrun. Today it speaks to me that an all out calamity will be averted, but still not without consequence.
And now in this you are The Cyclone. You are a force that challenges the natural order and you tear through whatever you meet. It does not represent physical destruction, but rather, fittingly, the plots of the intelligent and beings of political power. This spread indicates that your most favorable course of action is to be mindful of your place and the place of your allies, to find value in information that others may disregard as worthless, be open to the insights of those who are not yet your ally, or be open to new allies which can turn the tide, and finally that allies will in fact turn against each other, the minds of the virtuous may in fact become corrupt and that an unreasonable and unrelenting force is gaining strength, but the total destruction it is preparing for will be averted, albeit not without some consequence.
*And once again, thank you for letting me practice.*

Question 3: Wolthyr the Astral Deva just ended his vigil over a holy treasure vault and returned to heaven for the first time in centauries, it would seem that his old home and garden have been consumed by the maelstrom of chaos during a planar instability event. How should Wolthyr proceed? 5
Wolthyr is lost and seeks the harrod deck reader to tell him what action to pursue, be it revenge, rebuilding or something else entirely.
Role Card:
The Tangled BriarPast:
The Joke
The Inquisitor
The Sickness
Present:
The Hidden Truth
The Snakebite
The Lost
Future:
The Teamster
The Waxworks
The Paladin
Reading: Wolthyr, you inquire about your home. How fitting that you have revealed your role to be that of The Tangled Briar. Let us proceed with the reading. I have laid the cards before us and I unfortunately already see a bleak foreshadowing.
The Sickness is pestilence, disease and corruption. The Joke shows a great terror that has is unaffected by strength alone and The Inquisitor seeks only the truth. He represents immutable reality. They recall the events of the past that have led to devastation and that a desire within you wishes not to be made a fool of.
I see that soon you will have a need to see past the obvious and entertain the notion that a greater truth lies within. You also feel a loss of identity as you search for meaning in your current task. Together, The Lost and The Hidden Truth tell me that you will need to search through what is right in front of you in order to find yourself again.
And now The Waxworks and The Paladin. I see that in your endeavors, your condition and turmoil will only worsen. You may feel great helplessness, such that may even manifest itself as physical, unable to move, your mind unwilling to cooperate, as if you are frozen by a sight of great horror. And The Paladin, which has been revealed to be misaligned, cautions that the course you desire most, although noble will prove to be foolhardy.
And your place in this is that of The Tangled Briar, and how appropriate for you to manifest your role as such. It speaks volumes that something is now hopelessly lost, typically in a foul way. You seek advice for your current course of action, and even in your inquiry you are lost and indecisive. Your spread reflects this in numerous ways. It heeds that you look beyond what is painfully apparent, in order to find what it is you seek, and that your immediate reaction or desired course of action may prove to be foolhardy.
*And once again, thank you for letting me practice.*

Theodor is chaotic neutral, follower of Tymora.
Role Card:
The UnicornPast:
The Beating
The Lost
The Inquisitor
Present:
The Locksmith
The Wanderer
The Big Sky
Future:
The Hidden Truth
The Mute Hag
The Snakebite
Reading: Haha, The Unicorn. Tymora has already favored you after revealing only one card. Let's hope the harrow as a whole is equally blessed.
You fate in this tapestry is brightly lit and clear, as the divines seem to unanimously reveal the same visions to me.
I see The Inquisitor in your past, and although he seeks absolute and pure truth, he also seeks not to be made a fool. An event in your past has resulted in embarrassment, and multiple parties hold strongly onto pride as to not be revealed as a fool before the other. The Inquisitor today is shrouded in negativity.
The Wanderer tells me that you have an appreciation for what others find no value in, presumably humor. You have the flexibility and open mind to find humor in what others do not, and where others see it as meaningless or opt to actively ignore and avoid it, you embrace it, and found value in it. However, The Wanderer cautions that such action will provide unreliable consequences.
Finally, we have The Hidden Truth, reveals that in your future, as long as you look beyond the obvious, you will find a truth that you seek. The Snakebite in it's truest form represents poison used as a weapon, which can be interpreted literally as an assassin's blade dipped in a poison, or can represent the corruption of the virtuous, the suppression of ideas and the elimination of freedom.
And The Unicorn has been revealed as having great import in your harrowing. It's appearance indicates that which you seek will be offered to you, be it peace, forgiveness or to be left alone. However, the harrow as a whole reads that you will not achieve that which you desire without first having an active role in turning friends on each other or poisoning the minds of those who oppose you. Should you look beyond what is easily seen, you may in fact see a game changing and powerful truth that will alter your endeavors outcome for the positive.
*And once again, thank you for letting me practice.*

Balrog is a LE follower of Norgorber (specifically he is a slave to an Efreet- but the two of them serve the church of Norgorber)
Balrog travels with other members of the church- a powerful witch and warrior/inquisitor who have agreed to become his siblings (they both agreed to make a blood oath to protect one another from all who would fight against them. ALL!) and two others- a goblin witch and a gunslinger mage (who is not talented at magery in the slightest). The last two rejected his offer of fraternity.
In a recent... quelling of a Giant civil war (a civil war amongst giants; not merely a civil war of a large scale) Balrog fought viciously and with great skill against the Giant leader who fled like a coward from the might of Norgorber (as is wise but not brave). There was a treasure chest left behind. Within it was a book with strange arcane writing which Balrog secluded on his person concealing it from his fellows (his sister did see the book but made no claims to it).
Upon studying the text in private Balrog learned that the book contains powerful Necromancer spells. His sister requires no great need for such a text, but the Gun Wizard could benefit from these spells and put them to good use. Should Balrog reward one who so callously rejected brotherhood? Or should Balrog find other means to benefit from such a tome? Balrog wishes for the one with Elven immunities to ask the cards for guidance. What is the will of the Genies who serve Norgorber?

The prison's warden, a demonologist at least as vile as any of his inmates, has offered he and a few other inmates, powerful villains all, a chance for freedom if they can retrieve for him a particular tome that has wound up hidden somewhere in none other than the Tomb of Horrors. He and his party have fared well so far, handily overcoming most of what the Tomb has had to offer them and losing only one member (so far). The lich Acererak has been defeated, but there is still the matter of the tome they seek...and whatever more may happen upon their return to the warden. What do the cards advise?
And my chosen Role Card is #9. Reading, please!
