Best mounted archer?

Advice

I was thinking of a Mongols inspired character using a mount and a bow, but I'm not finding a good archetype for this. Have I missed one? It seems like a really iconic thing to not be covered.

Actually, cavalier or samurai are good choices. Their Challenge ability scales with level and grants a good ranged damage output if specialized for it.

Sohei archetype monk, with MAYBE a flavorful dip in some other really strong archery class. At lv.6, the Sohei gets weapon training (the fighter class feature) and the ability to flurry with weapons in that group. Also, no restrictions on that flurry like the Zen Archer, so he can use Rapid Shot and Manyshot. Also, he can select prerequisite-free Mounted Combat feats, such as the excellent Mounted Skirmisher.

Cavalier/samurai were intended for this, there is a monk archetype that does well, but don't overlook paladin. Paladin has enough going for it that if you burn your feats (all of em) on mounted and archery it's going to be almost as good in mounted combat but will have enough support features to be worthy.

Are there any archetypes or orders for cavaliers that favor mounted archery?

Keep in mind that, by default, a Cavalier's challenge cannot be used on Ranged attacks (if I recall). I think there is an Order (of the Plains? Land? something like that) that gives you a ranged attack bonus, but does not help damage.
