How to fight Harrigan?

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

So me and my wife were playing Best Served Cold last night and a question came up. Do you need to recharge an armor or 1d4 cards before attempting each check, or just for one? Also does anyone aiding me by taking the second or first check need to do it as well.

Text as written:
"Before you attempt any check to defeat, recharge 1 armor or 1d4 random cards, or discard them if you aren't the only character at that location."

I get the sneaking feeling that I know the answer and I just dont want it to be quite as nasty as it sounds.

I read it as it must be done before each check (so 2 times), and it is done by the person that will be attempting that check.

We've failed at this scenario twice in a row :( it's nasty.

Yep. "Any" check means any check. And "you" is addressed to the person attempting the check.

What about the Wis/Perc check when you encounter him? If the character encountering him fails the check does the difficulty go up for everyone at the location? In other words if I have another character attempt the second check is it a +6?

Without knowing the card's text, I'd wager a guess it depends if the wording is "the difficulty of your checks is increased..." or "Harrigan's checks to defeat are increased"

Just read the card :

The you in the first power applies to the character who encounters because it says "When you encounter...".
So if that character fails "... the difficulty of the checks..." (plurial, for whomever will attempt them).

Then as Vic said, the you in the second power applies to the character who attempt the check because it saus "Before you attempt..."

Simple.
