Basic exploit

Has anyone done the math on what gear you will need to make the basic exploit irreverent? Assuming attacks to match the gear.

Varies depending on which weapon you're talking about.

Irreverent potentially means unholy so basically the Evil descriptor will do it :D

On a more serious note, the reason it works so well with longbow against NPCs is that the average NPC is either shooting you or charging you - which means they always present opportunity triggering the exploit extra damage virtually all the time.

Someone did it for the long bow exploit earlier in alpha because it is so good, and it held up surprisingly well into Tier 2 but eventually became obsolete since there are no further ranks of it to level/take advantage of keywords. I have a vague memory of couple people int the discussion, i'll see if i can find it.

Edit: lol just assumed the thread was about long bow exploit, I should have read closer

Yeah i did the math. The exploits, oh the exploits! They have already gone through one iteration of toning down in Alpha. They need to remain powerful for 1 simple reason: They are a major part of what keeps new players relevant in a game full of T2 and T3 players.

That said, as Daeglin pointed out, they cannot be leveled up. The big deal with this is the fact that, even with a T3 bow, a rank 1 attack should only get the T1 attack roll (lowest of 3d200). In Alpha that wasn't working; but even then, by the time I had all of my Longbow attacks at level 4 and had a T2 longbow, I was easily owning other characters without ever having to touch the exploit, and players that tried to use it against me only got killed faster.

And then someone could post that bit about "FOO versus OP" - That would be helpful here, too.

That makes sense. Having newbies relevant from day one is incredibly important, whether it be hero tackler in a frigate in Eve-Online or the basic weapon exploit in this game.

*Some* game mechanic has to make day one players relevant, and if basic weapon exploit is going to be the chosen game mechanic, as a crowdforger, I'm ok with it.

At tier 2, the base damage barely gets the attack to do more damage when it applies, and the stamina cost and cooldown make the exploits under-curve.

Which is really another way of saying that the basic exploit is a free power that's almost as good as tier 2 training and gear.

Is that specifically the long bow exploit, or are the basic exploits for other weapons also close to T2 power levels? In my opinion, it should be the case for all weapons or none. Long bow should not be the only weapon with a near-T2 exploit.

Well, lets be clear, the damage from a Longbow Exploit (or greatsword or Great club) is on par with a T3 weapon at base damage. In fact, they are on par with a T3+2 weapon if you have MoO:Suffer slotted (an extra +10 base damage). The thing is, there is a serious opportunity cost associated with slotting and using the Exploit when you hit T2, instead of using your other attacks. For starters, the Base Damage bump on the exploits are contingent on your opponent either provoking or being flatfooted. For another, the additional non-damage benefits are far greater when you step in to T2, especially if you are building your character well. That said, some players will always want that "I hit you for a lot of damage because you made a mistake" exploit. If that works for their build, then fine. But it won't be their whole build if they want to survive. Not be a Distant Shot.
