Weretiger-kin and change shape?

Okay, content is entirely from Blood of the Moon (paizo).

Under the change shape ability for skinwalkers, says -4 cha and -4 on cha based checks when interacting with humanoids that lack the shapechanger subtype. This is specific to only while transformed.

Weretiger-kin is an alternate option for the skinwalker, which replaces the stock stats and a few other things. Notably, it adds +2 cha while transformed via the above change shape.

How do the two interact? What does "interacting" cover?

I'm looking into a sorcerer which is weretiger-kin and I'm making sure that I'm not going to be majorly crippled while casting spells (like, in example, if I'm taking -2 CHA or -4 CHA when casting spells that target humanoids without the shapechanger subtype).

It's NOT a -4 CHA. It's a -4 cha checks and a -4 cha based checks. Your casting isn't one of those. What is one of those is a diplomacy skill check.

Basically you're parsing the sentence wrong.

Well, my copy has this:

Quote:

The racial ability score bonus and additional feature
last as long as the skinwalker remains in that form, and a
skinwalker can remain in bestial form for as long as she
wants. While in bestial form, a skinwalker takes a -4 penalty
on Charisma and Charisma-based checks when interacting
with humanoids that lack the shapechanger subtype.

I see -4 CHA.

Is a charisma check not a charisma based check?

Based on similar things, I believe it's supposed to be read as "Charisma checks and Charisma-based skill checks." So it'd hit your Concentration check, but not your DCs or spell slots.

A charisma check is a d20 + cha modifier only. A charisma based check is d20 roll + cha modifiers + possible other modifiers.

While I'm aware of the way it's written, it's meant as a -4 penalty
on (Charisma and Charisma-based) checks. It makes NO sense the other way, as it's limited to "interacting with".

For instance look at this: http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/mythicAdventures/mythicHeroes.html#displ ay-of-charisma

http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/advanced/coreClasses/bard.html#mockery

http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ultimateEquipment/wondrousItems/neck.htm l#feychild-necklace

http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ultimateMagic/magic/bindingOutsiders.htm l# (uses opposed Charisma checks)

Thanks.

No problem. They really should have added the 'check' after cha for clarity but most likely dropped it for word count and/or thought it's be obvious. They use "stat check and stat based checks" a lot in the rules so I really didn't notice the check missing until you pointed it out.
