What are the best (PFS-legal) protective items?

My witch just hit level 13 and has over 80,000gp to spend. While some of that money is already spoken for, I'll have quite a bit left over and I was thinking of upping my defense. However, my AC is never going to be high enough to matter much so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for alternate protective items, maybe something that offers a miss chance.

The 20% miss chance from a Minor Cloak of Displacement doesn't really seem worth giving up my Cloak of Resistance for, and the Major Cloak has limited uses and takes a standard action to activate as best I can see - is it really worth that hefty price tag!?

What are the alternatives?

Here's some options for concealment.

Haunted Shoes! Yes, you too may own a pair of haunted shoes. The 6480 price tag isn't that bad (compared to 80K at least), and unfortunately the concealment is 1/day only and requires a standard action to activate (though, hard to get around that - most things are a standard action to activate).

Alternatively, there is the Robe of Scintillating Colors. A lot more pricey though it can also bring you total concealment (50%!) after five rounds of warming up. Unfortunately, only good for 10 rounds a day total (though, a lot can happen in that many rounds). It's also conflicting with the cloak of resistance, as you mentioned.

There is also Amulet of the Spirits (Waves) and it can also give a miss chance, 1/day - but as a swift action.

Lastly there is Stormlure, which will grant a miss chance against ranged things (including rays - neat) for 1 minute a day. Neck slot, so it spares your cloak.

Of those four, I think the Stormlure or Haunted Shoes would thematically fit a witch the best. As a fifth item - what about a Ring of Invisibility? Takes a standard action to activate, but as many times a day as you like, and invisibility grants a pretty nice miss chance.

I vote for a couple:

Stormlure

Aura faint evocation; CL 5th
Slot neck; Price 5,400 gp; Weight —

DESCRIPTION

A stormlure is usually fashioned from pieces of creatures known for their affinity to air—the feathers of birds, the shells of flying insects, and the scales of a dragon. When activated, stormlures call to the wind, causing a tempestuous gale. Once per day on command, the wearer of a stormlure is surrounding by swirling winds for 1 minute, granting a 50% miss chance against all ranged attacks, including rays and other ranged spells that require a roll to hit. This wind does not hinder the wearer of the stormlure in any way. At any one time during this duration, as a swift action, the wearer can cause the air around her to fill with crackling lightning, dealing 4d6 points of electricity damage to all creatures adjacent to her. A DC 14 Reflex save halves this damage.

at 5400, you can probably spare 2-3, which should cover almost your entire PFS day.

Oooohh, lots of goodies! Thanks!

Scarab Sages

Carpet of Flying is a pretty great defensive item against most melee enemies, if they cant reach you they cant hurt you. Personally I use one on my barbarian to let me charge with a height advantage and ignore difficult terrain, so it can be an offensive benefit as well. It is a bit pricey though.

Jingasa of the fortunate soldier

Price 5,000 gp; Aura strong divination; CL 15th; Weight 3 lbs.
This conical iron jingasa, or war hat, grants the wearer a +1 luck bonus to AC. Once per day when struck by a critical hit or sneak attack, the wearer can spend an immediate action to negate the critical hit or sneak attack (similar to the fortification armor special ability, but without requiring a roll). The damage is instead rolled normally.

Jingasa.
Amulet of Natural Armor +1
Mithral Buckler+1
Ring of Prot+1
Ioun Stones (too many to mention, but spendy)

I'd strongly consider dropping the cloak and picking up the minor displacement cloak.

There's always the Witching Gown for +2(doubled since you are a witch to +4) to saves (plus a bunch of other goodies) and it takes your body slot. It's PFS legal, as long as 35k is under your fame spending cap.

Broom of flying is by far the best defensive item you can possibly buy. 17,000g

She can already fly, and she has all those minor AC-boosting items. I always thought the Witching Gown was a bit pricey for what you actually get but I'll crunch some numbers to see if I can justify it. I'm actually leaning toward the ring of invisibility - I can't believe I hadn't thought of it before!

No further defensive items are required. Buy a +6 headband (You have it) and then a +3 int tome.

Or....

You might already have one, but get a haramaki or silken ceremonial robe. Then, get some enchantments on it.

Consider determination (30k). Most people see it as a "last resort that isn't all that useful for the cost", but remember that you drop below zero first, and then you get healed. Most creatures won't target unconsciousness creatures until all enemies are dead, but your not really unconsciousness, your just bluffing :).

Etherealness is the next step up from invisability. You can stay ethereal for as long as you want to, allowing you to pass through solid materials and simply run away. Not to mention that the utility is very nifty to have. 47k

Sczarni

The boots which grant you dimension door teleportation effect (can't remember the name) are best pick. It solves all situations which effectively trap your witch character and provide decent escape. It's 1/day, but those situations don't come up that often.
