Can Cackle extend a Hex indefinitely?

Rules Questions

The rule for Cackle says "Any creature that is within 30 feet that is under the effects of an agony hex, charm hex, evil eye hex, fortune hex, or misfortune hex caused by the witch has the duration of that hex extended by 1 round."

If a witch cackles every round after successfully applying a hex, does that add 1 additional round every time? Or can it only add 1 round ever?

You can keep cackling. Though if you try to apply your hexes at breakfast and then cackle throughout your 14-hour (or whatever) adventuring day, you're going to get some stinkeye from the rest of the table.

1 additional round every time. Trying to use this to extended fortune cackles over a whole day will likely get you punched in the arm by the DM, but in-combat uses are totally above board.

Liberty's Edge

I always like to remind all the players present at the table just how annoying the cackling witch is, of course.... :)

You can't cackle more than once per round.

Go ahead. See what kind of circumstance modifiers you get to Diplomacy, Bluff, or (lol) Stealth while the party witch is LHAO.

Cackle is a (Su) ability with no required verbal component.

FAQ says you literally have to cackle. Subject to silence effects and everything. It's actually the FAQ directly following the one linked a couple posts up.

Witch, Cackle Hex: Does my character literally have to cackle madly when I use this hex, or is that just flavor text?

Your character actually has to cackle—probably in a strong voice, akin to the volume and clarity necessary for verbal spell components.

Edit 7/19/13:
If the witch is in a silence effect, she can't use the cackle hex.
If the target is in a silence effect, it is unaffected by the cackle.
This may require some clarifying text in the next printing of the Advanced Player's Guide.

Actually, just to point this out:

Cackle can extend the 1 round target saved duration, as well, apparently, for certain hexes.

Evil Eye, for instance.

I make my witch players actually roleplay the cackling if it's for anything longer than 1 round...the entire time... If a sore throat doesn't kick in first, the other players at the table are bound to kill him. Problem solved either way.

Could just not be a dick and tell him "You can cackle, but only for the duration of the encounter" which is essentially RAI.

This is almost as bad as making your wizard track material components.

It can keep going round after round. Just don't try to maintain it between encounters. If you tried that stunt, your GM would be well within his rights to have a Tarrasque stomp on you.

Extreme déjà vu with this thread. Like, I know I've read similar threads, but it feels like this exact conversation has happened, down to the 'I make my players actually cackle'. Weird.
