Liberty's Edge

Are the player's guides for the AP's legal for PFS.

Almost none of them are listed as allowed or disallowed, so I wasn't sure.

If it's not on the Additional Resources list, it's not legal.

Liberty's Edge

Crap! I was afraid of that. There's a trait I'd like to make use of in Mummy's Mask.

Dang it all.

I bet I know which one it is.

Spoiler:
trapfinding.

Indeed.

I drooled so much when I saw that trait.

Liberty's Edge

Yup. I'm trying to make a eidolon into as good of a scout as possible.

I won't swear to it, but I'm better than 90% sure there are players using that trait at out local PFS events.

If they are, you should probably gently point of that it's not a legal option so they need to pick something else.

One important thing to note is that there perhaps 100 people out there with legitimate access to the trait. The GM boon for PaizoCon 2014 allows a character to take one of the Mummy's Mask campaign traits. Likewise, I believe the PaizoCon 2013 GM boon did the same thing for Shattered Star campaign traits.

Dark Archive

The thing about the traits from the AP's are that a lot of them can be found in other sources, and paizo doesn't want us not paying money.

That may be true, but I don't recall seeing Campaign traits available. I believe, as a general rule, PFS doesn't use campaign traits. So access to this trait is very special.

Finances don't even play a role in this decision. Campaign traits are purposely a little stronger than other trait options—at least in part to make them an attractive choice to players over other options (and thus allowing the campaign traits' fluff to help ground the characters in the campaign). Allowing these traits without the limiting factor of these half dozen being for this campaign and those seven being for that campaign means that some traits are obvious choices.

The 2013 Paizocon Boon let you get a campaign trait from the Varisia sourcebook.

I traded for a copy and used it to put the Serpent Runner trait on one of my characters.

You have spent enough time in Varisia that it is now like a second home. You gain an additional trait from page 30-31 of the Pathfinder Player Companion: Varisia, Birthplace of Legends. Write the selected trait on the line below. Include this Chronicle sheet along with your records for the character who gains this boon.

EDIT

Which was totally where they published the Shattered Star Player's Guide in a print product separate from the free .pdf.

And the PaizoCon 2014 GM Boon was from like People of the Sands, or the Osirion splatbook. Not Mummy's Mask.

(I threw away a stack of them during cleanup)

I think you'll find the traits are identical, as the Player Companion tends to have a spread associated with the relevant Adventure Path.

People of the Sands does have the Campaign Traits for Mummy's Mask though.

2013 boon was for Varisia, Birthplace of Legends (PFRPG) which included the campaign traits for Shattered Star.

Hmm. I was unaware of that.

Makes me wish I hadn't traded it away so quickly. It seemed a worthless boon when I looked it over.

Wait a minute, I remember why I thought it was worthless. The Additional Resources declared that trait illegal.

Are you saying the boon supercedes the Additional Resources?

Because I didn't read it that way.

Paizo Employee 4/5 Developer

The boon very much supersedes the Additional Resources, otherwise (as you pointed out) that boon wouldn't do anything.

Looks like boons follow the general design philosophy of specific overrides general. :)

Just curious... has there been any cases of people "faking" a boon sheet?
(aka, making a boon that does not exist)

Its been like 6 seasons and surely there are like hundreds of different types of boons running around.
Is there any ways a GM can know if a boon is legit?

Does Venture officers have a master list to compare them too or something?

4/5 **

Most folks who GM at cons tend to see the boons at some point, but I don't know of a complete list anywhere. But if you're going to fake a boon, why stop there? We had a guy who "GMd" and reported 12 games in a weekend with 4 made-up player numbers (for his wife and three kids under 5) so he could "legally" level up for a scenario he wanted the Chronicle for.

Cheaters gonna cheat, and they usually drift away quickly or (more likely) also get caught fudging dice rolls, having "accidental" Chronicle issues, and so on.

I have. I made one for Iomedae's Paladin Code a while back, but I was told I should take it down as it looked "too real".

For my Emerald Spire group I made a boon titled "Slayer of the Innocent" after one PC decided to go extra-murderhobo on one of the levels.

If you're good at digital editing, it's really not hard.
