Rules question about traits and making a character above 1st level.

Hi, I'm making a Clebarian starting at 3rd level with GM credit. My question is whether I can take both "Berserker of the Society" and "Exalted of the Society?" First level is Barbarian and then Cleric from then on. Thanks in advance.

Are those two traits from the same category?

The limit on traits is based on which are A) Society Play Legal and B)From differing Categories.

Berserker is Combat and Exalted is Faith, so you should be OK.

No, you cannot.

Why?

At level 1 when you choose your 2 traits, you are a barbarian and therefore only qualify for Berserker of the Society and not Exalted of the Society.

The issue I see is whether you have to take both traits at first level, because then the character wouldn't be able to take Exalted.

That's what I was afraid of.

You can still take the "extra traits" feat at level 3, and get Exalted of the society and some other trait.
