What about those lvl 12 rage demons? They wiped the party at lvl 4 (wasn't looking at levels, assumed that it would scale), then again at lvl 8. Do I need to wait for level 12 to kill them off?

Every area has pockets of challenge spikes, don't try to clear out every map. Do the story quests at their recommended levels.

30 hours in, and the tutorial is finaly over. I love this game. Good oldschool RPG with a breath of fresh air. I want Neverwinter Nights done in this engine. And Icewind Dale, and Torment, and Baldur's gate.
Wot
It's definitely not an old school RPG. Origins and KoTOR were a lot closer to those RPGs you mentioned, Inquisition is about 3 steps down the path from there, it's basically an action RPG with some party management and a decidedly meh attempt to update the tactical camera from Origins.

The controls are a real pain on the PC. Super dissapointing. I gave up on it after just couple days.
What put you off precisely? The only thing that bothered me is that sometimes my character keeps swinging at a different target, completely ignoring the one in front of him.
Haven't used the tactical camera since start of play to be honest.

One of the biggest issues with me getting my nephews to try rpgs is the level of graphics on most of them. Say what you will, but the beautiful visuals in Dragon Age Inquisition definitely helped get my nephews to play the game. When we play multi-player, I get reminded how much better their reaction speeds are thou.
On the PC front, my buddy mentioned Dragon Age Inquisition mods going up with at Nexusmods.com. Of course, since I am playing the game on a Xbox one, it really does not help me much.

Playing on PS4. No significant bugs so far, only cutscenes are a bit slow in frame rate.
Am lvl 17 F elf mage knight enchanter and still haven't done main quests after
Started at 15 hunting for high dragons, so far killed the Fereldan Frostback, the Abyssal and the Northern Hunter ; no real problems at that level.
I think it is just an action rpg with outstanding graphics and a lot more crafting than i felt the need for. Used only on few occasions the tactical camera and only for very brief time, another feature i can live without.
Disappointing story, made from reused themes and villains from the other two DA titles, a fun game so far but not what i expected.

Speaking of found loot, if you're a mage, none of the mage uniques are that 'wow' for endgame. The fade-knocker is great for ten-12, then theres theres an impressive fire elemental one I used from 15 to 19, but once I passed 20, tier-3 material and recipe staff with tier-3 crafted handle and end and superior spirit rune. I finished the game with Inquisitor Trevelyan outfitted in all yellows, Sera in all purples (only class who's uniques were really impressive and beneficial, i just with the exploding bodies one was about 100 higher damage), Solas in mostly yellows, and Cassy in half and half yellow/purple (crafted shield suck btw).

Last evening the Vinsomer went down, after about 40 min battle and every potion i had. But i haven't understood why the ps4 didn't save the gameplay ; i take a video of every slain high dragon but couldn't with this one and i don't know why, i fast traveled to skyhold after the fight and the ps4 recorded the game from there, skipping everything from immediately before the dragon fight.
So now "only" 6 high dragons to go.

Muad'Dib |

My vid card patch helped a lot for the crashes. It is still crashing but not near as much. I made some great progress through the game and yesterday I made it to Skyhold (woot).
It's amazing and reminds me of how great video games can be.
I'm not sure how to break it to my wife that I have a mad crush on Cassandra. It's going to be an awkward conversation...

hah..last night I took out 2 high dragaons in relatively short order and then decided to take out the only other one I knew off..Vinsomer..
I wouldn't say I went in unprepared but within the first 5 minutes it was clear I would not prevail given my current gear. Its the only time I have loaded a saved game other than from a crash.

I've killed the ferelden frostback, the northern hunter, the abyssal and the vinsomer so far. The first three were quite easy given the fact i fought them at 15-16 with all yellow/purple gear.....but the vinsomer was another story. I was 17 by then, but didn't notice he was a 19 elite :(
Ouch !!! i had to reload a couple of times and still the battle took a lot of time.

So, I'm level 16 and still can't kill a single dragon. Yay. I must be doing something wrong.
And what's with the giants? Level 15 giant smashed my party to bits in short order.
I found that if I got a giants attention with my archer a thrown rock killed me instantly, so I always let Cassie grab attention before lighting them up. Guard and barrier helps alot.

I found the giants in the game to be the MOST troubling and challenging foes, apart from dragons. The big exception being that dragons are by themselves and, I think it's in the Emerald Graves, there's a whole area where giants just spawn and wander around.
Having never seen more than one giant at a time before, when I saw one lumbering through the trees I pounced! When the second giant stepped out from behind a large tree, I realized I'd be in for a tricky fight. Then, when a bronto or other such critter with a babillion Guard wandered into an AoE of mine centered on a giant, my desparate I-may-make-it-out-of-this-alive fight turned into a total rout.
Giants are freaking tough and I love it!

Yeah... 2 giants make for a tough encounter, at least until lvl 19 or so. Good way to make cash though.
I always thought about jumping into the giant/dragon fight on the Storm Coast, just to see what happened.
Of all the high dragons I fought the 2 toughest were the Frostback, cause I was 12 and it took a very long time, and the Kaltenzahn in Lion. The latter was the only time I had to reload and try a different approach.

At level 10 I jumped into that fight and drew the damaged giant off the dragon. Oddly the dragon never followed and when I finished off the giant at range the dragon was gone.
The AI in the game is just horrible

Gandal |

Crafting question, about the items giving a masterwork chance, usually for a stats enhancing effect: has anyone managed to get a masterwork chance the first time ? Or by saving, trying to craft a MW and reloading to try again ? I reloaded an attempt at MW crafting countless times, and never got that damned chance.
Looked on the web and found that the MW crafting seems to be broken, you'll never get that chance no matter how many times you reload ; looks like you can only waste the ingredients on the first try, then the second'll have 100% chance to give that bonus.
Isn't there a way to not having to waste some hard-to-get item ?

Dragons are scripted encounters. That dragon is supposed to kill the giant and then fly away to Dragon Island.

Muad'Dib |

I have no doubt it's scripted otherwise I think the dragon would have come after me.
Just in general, the AI in Dragon Age (and most games) is lousy. Foes never take cover or use spells in any creative manner. Melee foes always close distance no matter how much of a disadvantage they are at. Ranged foes stand in plain sight and shoot arrows or sling spells.
Tactical AI could be the next big thing in gaming. It just has not happened yet. Who knows, maybe our robot overlords could be derived from a video game AI that gets loose. Trained to kill humans by gamers like you and me.

I just ignored that stuff until I got the thing that auto increases the stats by 10% late in the game and just used fade-touched stuff instead. Some of that stuff is awfully good.

Still loving this game. I'm still impressed that even though it doesn't have Skyrim's "walk directly from one side of the map to the other", the game feels bigger to me. So much to explore and each area feels different/unique.
For those who had PC issues, you have my sympathy. Your stories have, however, reminded me why I've abandoned the PC as my gaming platform. I have limited time to play as it is, I certainly don't want to waste it just getting something to work.
I haven't been able to play much with all of the Christmas celebrations, but I'm hoping to take down that Ferelden Frostback soon. So far, I've had two unsuccessful runs where I had to retreat.
For the Inquisition!

A few reasons I love the PC
1 - Mods!! I don't use mods the first playthrough but once I had a legit playthough it's fair game. I can't imagine playing Skyrim without mods, they add so much replay to the game.
2 - We only have one TV in the house and my wife is not a gamer. So when I'm playing she can watch TV.
3 - PC games are far less expensive. I can buy really good games on Steam for 10 bucks and don't have disks floating around the house.
Dragon Age Inquisition is the first game that has caused me any problems on this particular rig. Actually it's the only game that has caused real problems since the days of boot up disks. Ultima 7 gave my PC fits back in the day...
The only thing my x-box can do that my PC can't do better is play Red Dead Redemption. BTW Red Dead is one of the best games I've ever played.

All those things + the controllers for platforms are simply not nearly comparable to a good old mouse and keyboard.

Got it for Christmas but turns out I can't run it because it requires quad core. Oh well.
Read the description of this video. It contains a link and instructions for using a utility called Extreme Injector that appears to be allowing many people with dual core machines to run Dragon Age: Inquisition. You might consider giving that a try. Regardless, you should probably slate a CPU upgrade for sometime in the not-too-distant future.
