When cast on a container such as a quiver or a pouch that contains nonmagical ammunition or shuriken (including masterwork ammunition or shuriken), at the start of each round this spell replaces any ammunition taken from the container the round before. The ammunition taken from the container the round before vanishes. If, after casting this spell, you cast a spell that enhances projectiles, such as align weapon or greater magic weapon, on the same container, all projectiles this spell conjures are affected by that spell.

A while ago, while playing an archer with a selection of expensive arrows, I noticed that this spell, as written, will let me create all the arrows I ever need. On one round, I shoot a bunch (let's say 4) of bleed arrows (160gp each), and miss. Half of those can be retrieved later. So now, on the next round, I have two good arrows on the floor, and four shiny new ones in my quiver. I keep this up for the entire fight, and at the end of it, I'm up by a couple grand worth of arrows.

Or, if I'm in need of some cash, I can cast abundant ammo, dump my entire quiver upside down, and multiply my ammo supply by 10x my caster level. Pretty soon I'll be able to sell off enough of whatever arrows I've created to work my way up to the most expensive arrows I can find, and continue replicating those for resale purposes.

So, my question is, is there anything in the text of the spell that I'm missing that says that you can't wind up with more arrows than you started with through this spell?

As per the quote you showed, any ammunition taken out of the container the round before vanishes. In other words, any ammunition you create disappear after use. Good for shooting, but you won't be able to sell them.

Scarab Sages

The second sentence: ammunition taken from the container the round before vanishes.

Whether you shoot the arrow or dump it on the ground, all of the arrows that leave the quiver vanish one round after you perform the action. There won't be any to pick up later on.

Ok. Thanks. I don't know how I've missed that every time I've read it before.

Any ammunition created only lasts 1 minute/level. Also, remember that one of your ammunition is consumed as a material component.

Happens to a lot of people, on various things. No big. :)

That's what the plain, vanilla, normal cheap arrows are for. Keep one in the quiver for use as teh spell component, replace it after the fight from your quiver of normal arrows. 5 cp a cast, but it reproduces whatever non-magical ammo you use from that container.

Obviously, you want to pull things like thistle arrows form a normal source, since having it disappear after hitting defeats the whole purpose of that type of arrow...
