Arcane Ranger

Homebrew and House Rules

Before anyone asks, yes! I know of the Arcane Archer and, while the concept is interesting, it's not exactly what I'm looking for.

Bard = Inquisitor

Wizard = Cleric

Ranger = ...

So basically, what I *am* looking for, is a version of the Ranger which uses Arcane spells in place of Divine- WITHOUT needing to multi or prestige into anything.

Any Paizo/3rd party/homebrew material I should be looking at?

Links appreciated!!

Bloodrager from the Advanced Class Guide comes close, but doesn't mirror the feel of the class.

Why?

Sovereign Court

Bloodrager strikes me a bit more as the arcane mirror to the paladin. But if you pick a good bloodline and pick up some "green" skills with traits, it can serve as an arcane ranger in a pinch.

I'd say that the magus is a bit of an arcane ranger; more technical than the bloodrager, just like the ranger is somewhat technical what with all the fighting styles. A bit more spellcasting, about the same amount of skill points after adding Int.

If it's archery you're interested in, Occultist. Technically a "Psychic" caster, but most of their spells are from the Sorcerer/Wizard list, and their items correspond to a wizard's schools of magic. Also, Psychic caster means no Arcane Spell failure. Also, I would wait until they work the bugs out.

U want full BAB? Bloodrager is probably the closest you're going to get.

If it's melee you're interested in, Magus.

Has anybody tried to create a homage to the 1st Edition D&D Ranger that had a small amount of ability to cast both Arcane and Divine spells (the class ability table listed them as Magic-User and Druid spells)?

Greenrager and/or Bloodrider Bloodrager are basically it.

You ask "Why".

I ask, "Why not?"

I'm looking for something with more utility, than "incredible damage dealing" spells. Something... Bard-like, I suppose. Problem is, Bards are only proficient with Shortbows. And even if they could use Longbows, they still wouldn't fit the flavor of what I'm looking for.

Bloodrager.

In my perspective the classes dosent mirror each other that clearly. But if wizard=cleric then the arcane ranger shouldent have more than 3/4 bab and the bard or the magus seem to be Perfect. If the Music part of bard is unattractive to you? Go with the Indiana Jones archtype.
Or if it is a home game ask your GM to built you a arcane Spell list for a ranger.

Sovereign Court

Elf (= longbow proficiency) Archaeologist (= no singing, but do get trapfinding, uncanny dodge and rogue talents) with Fortune's Favor (= big Luck bonuses when combined with Archaeologist's Luck).

It's one of the builds you can create with The Genius Guide to the Talented Ranger and it's companion volume The Genius Guide to More Ranger Talents.
