I've been having mixed experiences with Trip in a homebrew game where the DM seems very enthusiastic about flying and swimming foes. When Trip works it is absolutely fantastic though. I think it can be worthwhile as long as you have a backup plan or just intend to use Trip as a special tactic to devastate vulnerable foes.

And it's exactly these responses that are cluttering up the point of the question as "homebrew" has nothing to do with PFS.

ALso.. Yes--I'm overreacting, but I'm not an idiot and this thread was posted exactly where it was intended to be.

Well, someone disagreed and the webteam agreed with that disagreement.

That said however, the answer is a resounding yes. It's probably even more effective in PFS than in homebrew, because:
1. GM's run prewritten modules and thus don't "adapt"
2. A lot of enemies in PFS are humanoid and don't fly.

The only thing you have to take into account is how you're going to make it work.

Which weapon of choice:
Whip, Guisarme or Flail (heavy/light)

Which class:
Lorewarden fighter, magus, bloodrager, or any other silly combination you can come up with who's CMB to trip increases fast.

Must have:
Combat Expertise, Improved Trip, Greater Trip

Good to have:
Fury's Fall, Combat Reflexes (when utilizing a reach build)

For Magus and Bloodrager:
Wand or scroll or self casting of Blade Lash
Note that the text of the spell goes with your weapon's CMB, so your own one, with a nice +10 bonus. If you have a round to prepare you could even support it with a true strike for a +30.

here is the best "combo style" i could master:
human. 17,14,14,10,10,13 human after racial .
order of the dragon (see in the end - what do i do when i dont trip) or order of the hammer (lets add some grapple shall we ? )

lvl1:
cavalier, archetypes: Beast Rider + Honor Guard (they mix...)
feats: power att, reflexes. team feat = tandem trip.
this lvl you are a full bab with a mount.
mount takes tandem trip as well.
you can do great damage + trip + roll twice trips.

lvl 2 :v
cavalier
free feat bodyguard and dragon order offer some team friendly.
mount takes power attack

lvl 3: monk of maneuvers
feat: boon companion
free imp unarmed, imp trip
now you full attack & trip free (or soon, grapple free. ) cmb = full bab.

lvl 4:
lore warden 1
, mounted combat

lvl 5:
lore warden 2
feat expertise + ki throw + improve grapple
mount feat ???

lvl 6:
lore warden 3
+2/+2 cmb\cmd

lvl 7: cavalier 3
greater trip
you now position opponent where ever you wish, with trip.
you can grapple well.
you got a tough mount.
you are power attacking with good (18) str.

lvl 8: cavalier 4
mount gets's better now. take a tiger.
mount feat ???

lvl 9: cavalier 5
feat : the one that allow free grapple after a trip.
you now attack full attack > free trip > free grapple.

lvl 10: cavalier 6
feat greater grapple.
mount feat ????

another option is :
cavalier 4 (take horse master ) > monk 2 > lore warden rest.
take the feat that allow a griphon.

In PFS yes it is very viable and doable. I really like brawler/monk myself. I made a trip build for Emerald spire and its doing great. What makes the brawler so nice is the flexiblity you can gain any maneuver you need. So it has 6 legs and a huge trip defense then just pick up grapple or damage feats and smash him in another way.

Lots of classes can trip but brawler can do all combat manuvers and not have to be dedicated to 1 maneuver. Versitility in PFS goes a long way.

Plus the double AOO from Vicious Stomp / Greater trip.

I've even thought about a build where you use said trip AOOs to use dirty trick to blind them (with quick dirty trick) and then disarm them at +6 in addition to them being flat-footed. I'm not sure if it's actually worth all of the feats - it just seems funny to me.

@CLH - It is a bit of a coincidence that you mentioned using dirty trick on tripped foes since that's a long term plan for my Orc Dirty Fighter. They don't get the ability to attempt a dirty trick as an attack until 9th level though, and I multiclassed for 2 levels. The good news is that I have Enforcer to go with Vicious Stomp. Next level I'll pick up Hurtful to go on top of that.

The combat maneuver which has been the most fun for that PC so far is probably Disarm. I don't have the Improved version, but between the DF's "sidestep" ability and the fact the foe might be prone the AoO form the enemy almost never hits. My favorite item to disarm is potions (especially healing potions)

I did that with my manouver master. Dirty trick for free, then trip, Ki throw Greater trip, rogue full attack with sneak kills everything.
