He was wrong.
Fighter has no spellcasting.
Spherewalker adds it's levels to any caster level you have, fighter has none so no caster levesl.
Divine scion adds to any divine caster level, still no caster level so this part is wasted too.
I have no idea why he'd think you could, or anyone looking at this would have any questions. Unless I'm looking at the wrong things.

You need to read the spherewalker spells per day text a little more carefully.
Monkeygod: there's no precedent to set for the continued progression of spell levels past the completion of a class. This is purely within DM purview, but given doing so breaks a whole bunch of stuff (including weird theurge/evangelist shenanigans) so I doubt you would find anyone willing to vouch for this combo. I would not expect a single PFS DM to allow it.

There is this text from the part about spellcasting advancement for the Spherewalker prestige class:
"If the spherewalker has no levels in a spellcasting class, she instead gains one 1st-level domain spell slot, which she may use to prepare spells from any of their gods domains as if she were a cleric. Her caster level is equal to twice her class level. With each new spherewalker level, she gains a new spell slot for a spell level equal to her class level. A 5th-level spherewalker would thus have a spell slot for one domain spell from 1st to 5th level spells. The number of bonus spells and spell save DCs are set by the spherewalker’s Wisdom score."
Although there is no table for it, I would consider the Spherewalker's casting to top out at 5th level (maximum class level) and thus not advance beyond that point -- just as would be the case if you tried to advance the spellcasting ability of any other prestige class with its own spellcasting ability beyond its maximum level.

After looking over the Spherewalker very closely, there are two possible reasons for this to not work:
1) A spherewalker may not be a Divine caster, therefore levels in Divine Scion cannot be applied.
If the spherewalker has no levels in a spellcasting class, she instead gains one 1st-level domain spell slot, which she may use to prepare spells from any of their gods domains as if she were a cleric.
As seen from the quote, there is nothing that specifically states the Spherewalker is a divine caster. They may cast divine spells (from a domain as a cleric), but since it doesn't explicitly state what type of caster a Spherewalker is, they are not typed (similar to an Alchemist).
2) There is no scaling for Spherewalker past the fifth level. It is entirely up to personal interpretation and house rules for spherewalkers to gain anything beyond what is mentioned in the prestige class.
