High-Level Magic Items Advice for Magus

Advice

Liberty's Edge

So my Magus just hit level 11 last night, and I've now come to realize that I have pretty much filled every "essential" niche on the character and am trying to decide which items I should go for next. I've got the ever-useful Celestial Armor and my sword is a beautiful Black Blade (so I can't upgrade either of those, since this is a PFS character). I have the Ring of Arcane Might, and some minor other items as well (a +3 Cloak of Resistance, a +1 Ring of Deflection and a +1 Ring of Natural Armor). My AC is 28 (respectable, especially given my ability to increase it by 6 as an immediate action with Spell Shield), and I don't take a lot of hits.

I wonder what else I really need. There doesn't seem to be a way to get spell resistance without paying through the nose, unfortunately. Any "must have" or "totally awesome" items you'd recommend for a magus pushing the upper levels of organized play? (I will be playing her past level 11, hopefully as high as the adventures will take me.)

List what you have (including slots please)

You didn't mention belt/headband but I assume you have something appropriate in those slots. There is always the possibility of upgrading those, as well as your cloak, ring of protection and amulet of natural armor.

Pearls of Power are always useful.

Metamagic rods are useful.

Wands, Scrolls and potions are always a possibility.

Dweomer's Essence for dealing with SR on enemies.

ioun stones + wayfinders are useful...

Consumables like wands

Meta magic Rods... hard to give a recommendation without knowing what you have.

Items I have looked at:

  • Featherstep Slippers
  • Ebon Wayfinder: clear spindle & incandescent blue sphere
  • Gloves of Elvenkind/Deliquescent Gloves
  • Eyes of the Eagle
  • Gauntlet of Rust
  • Unfettered Shirt
  • Ring of Evasion

If you have a lot of money to burn, there's nothing more awesome than an Otherworldly Kimono.

... But that's a lot of money.

I've got a few metamagic rods - Piercing and Elemental Spell (Acid) at the moment (which other ones would you suggest?). A few wands of utility spells, though the number of spells I can personally cast per day vastly exceeds the number of spells I ever do cast in a particular scenario, and now that I'm level 11, I can cast any magus spell, prepared or otherwise, so wands drop in usefulness other than the infamous infernal healing. I also have a Belt of Dex +2 (I'm a dervish dancer) and Headband of Int +2 (might go ahead and upgrade these if I can't find anything more amazingly powerful).

Hot DAMN that kimono is awesome. Hard to afford though, for sure.

The Gloves of Elvenkind are great - more spellcraft is awesome, even though I already auto-succeed at most concentration checks. This will make it nearly all of them.

Is the Ebon Wayfinder the cheapest one with two slots? I can't see Darkness or Darkvision being too helpful, though two slots is pretty awesome. I already use a standard wayfinder with the clear spindle (I owe it to my party that I avoid domination at all costs - if someone ever gets me with one, I could probably TPK any group).

Unfettered Shirt is also great.

I already have evasion or I'd definitely go for the ring.

Dweomer's Essence is a great suggestion. Many thanks for that one! I practically have a pearl necklace made out of Pearls of Power, but you're very right that that one's essential.

Otherworldly Kimono is not legal for PFS, by the way.

I am about 95% sure it appears on a chronicle sheet for one of the modules, actually, but good point. I would need to unlock it first if it does.
