Animal Focus Stacking Question

Rules Questions

A ranger archetype Wild Hunter gains Animal Focus (Su)

"At 1st level, as a swift action a wild hunter can take on the aspect of an animal, gaining a bonus or special ability based on the type of animal emulated. This functions as the hunter's animal focus class feature, though this only applies to the wild hunter and not an animal companion (see shared focus, below). The wild hunter can use this ability for 1 minute per day per ranger level. This duration does not need to be consecutive, but it must be spent in 1-minute increments. He can only emulate one animal at a time."

1) Does this stack with the Druid Archetype Feral Shiftier Animal Focus? (Su)

At 1st level, as a swift action, a feral shiftier can take on the aspect of an animal, gaining a bonus or special ability based on the type of animal emulated. This functions as the hunter's animal focus class feature. The feral shiftier can use this ability for a number of minutes per day equal to her druid level. This duration does not need to be consecutive, but it must be spent in 1-minute increments. She can emulate only one animal at a time.

2) Does this stack with the Hunters Archetype Feral Hunter's Feral Focus (Su)

At 1st level, a feral hunter gains a limited ability to change her shape into hybrid animal forms. This functions as the animal focus class feature, except that the hunter always applies the animal aspect to herself, and there is no limit to this ability's duration. She can end this ability as a free action.

you could have three on you if you had all three classes assuming there isn't something like a polymorph effect overlap or something. they are all separate abilities with separate pools of use since they don't say they stack in levels.

I'd say no. The same effects don't stack unless specifically stated that they stack - and with works like animal focus I would consider them variants of the same effect.

Stacks the wrong word when talking about bonuses. I think I meant stack more in the terms of animal companion from two different classes so its a higher level? So 2 Ranger + 2 druid = 4 level animal focus?

I would say that it stacks with druid Animal Focus as they are granted from 2 different abilities by RAW. RAI I would add the class levels together for the ability, similar to other classes which grant access to the same thing.

Feral Focus replaces the animal focus class feature. So you can't have both Animal Focus and Feral Focus.

faq:
No—unless an ability specifically says it stacks with similar abilities (such as an assassin's sneak attack), or adds in some way based on the character's total class levels (such as improved uncanny dodge), the abilities don't stack and you have to use them separately.

This FAQ says that unless it says they stack in some way, which they don't, you have two separate abilities that are used separately.

So this would mean you could use 1 to go bear, 1 to go stag, and 1 to go eagle, or whatever the actual animals are.

While I wouldn't say they ever count towards eachothers' progression in any way, I see no reason why all three abilities can't be used. Two level dips is quite a price to pay. They would not not add class levels together, due to the FAQ Chess Pwn brought up. A similar thread was recently argued for the Monk and Warpriest Sacred Fist's FoB

Do keep in mind that they'd need to be activated separately of course. Not more than one swift action per turn.

Feral Focus replaces Animal Focus. You couldn't have both. You could have Animal Focus (hunter) and Animal Focus (druid feral shifter) though.

Feral hunter only replaces the hunters animal focus. so you can have the feral hunter, ranger and druid all give the focus ability and have them all on.

Ah, i missed the ranger archetype also granting it. Yes, all 3 would be individually based off their class level as appropriate. 3 swifts to activate all of them.
