I recall this being addressed previously, but I don't remember the answer and I can't find it searching through the messageboards, so... can somebody please remind if we will or won't ultimately be able to filter auction house listings to only see available items? If the answer is negative, could somebody also please remind me why not?

From this thread.
Does every auctionhouse list *all* auctions that have been submitted globally? Sorry if this has been stated elsewhere already.
Since Ryan stated that a toggle to show ony listed items will not be necessary since soon *every* item will have auctions going, I think the above must be true. If listings were local I do not expect every small town to have listings of every item that exists.
I mean that there will be a small number of Auction Houses due to Settlement choices, and that there will be auctions for every item in every Auction House. There will be crafting/trading Settlements who will specialize in putting something of every type up for sale in every available market so they can centralize their data and look for arbitrage opportunities.
Seeing what is selling, at what price, will also give them actionable intel on what his happening in the local regions around the market hub.
Relatively quickly there's not going to be a significant number of things that have no active auctions.
A global view of all items for sale at all Auction Houses is useful for traders and bargain hunters. On the other hand, as an individual living in an isolated corner of the map, shopping for one item for my own use, I'd like to have a toggle for "Show me only what's for sale at this Auction House." I'm not as confident as Ryan is that every item will be available at every Auction House every time I go shopping.

If busy Auction Houses end up with lots of stuff with no auctions, then the problem isn't the need to be able to filter for items with auctions, the problem is that we've added content to the game nobody wants. Those are two entirely different problem domains.
Just imagine E-Bay without the option to better search or filter. Ease of use goes hand in hand with adoption.
It really is NO fun at all to spend 5 minutes to click through 200 recipes to find the 10 that have a listing and the 1 or 2 that have a listing at a reasonable price.
I have been a buyer at the auction house because it was the only option. But it is no fun to shop there.
The whole auction house functionality is great. The friendlieness for buyers isn't.
Do I want to see listings without anything to offer? No. Will everything be on offer eventually? Not if buyers are put off by the way the auction house works. And even then there will be stuff you might never see.
Next is a filter on price. If you want 20 silver pieces (not a typo - I don't mean copper) for your recipe then I might as well filter it out.
And I haven't yet figured out how to use the search. Either it is bandwidth or? Looking for recipe of leather strips I entered leather or strips and got nothing. Is it time-out or is partial matching not allowed. Do I have to spell the whole item - do I need to add recipe into the name.
I tried 5 minutes to figure out search and gave up.
This leaves me with scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, scroll & click, and so on - guess I'm not even half through the recipe listing yet

I am an old AH user and abuser from a few MMOs. I have not used this AH even though that is one of my most favorite things about MMOs. The main reasons being that it is:
1. Clunky and a pain to operate.
2. Clunky and a pain to operate.
As it gets more developed and easier to use, I will be all over it almost daily.

For the people having trouble scrolling, try selecting a category and subcategory and entering a keyword, like "Apprentice's" or "Steel". That usually narrows the search enough to make the scroll bar work properly.
For the people seeing no results with keywords, I don't know what's going wrong there.

Another questions entirely:
Is anyone else having difficulty removing things from the local vault? It simply doesn't work for me. I can't move any items, nor can I move coins.
I can get my items back (and have been doing so) by creating a 1c auction and then buying them myself, but you can see the problem with that system!

I am not having that problem on any of my characters. I saw your question in the alpha forums also. I hope that you have submitted a bug report, in game as well.
It sounds frustrating. Thank goodness it is still alpha.

Thanks! I posted mostly so I could see whether I'm just missing something obvious, if that hasn't been fully implemented yet, or if it is in fact a bug!

Keyword search and ability to see what is actually listed +1.
I know Ryan harps that there will be listings for everything in short order but I can't agree with that. Especially for tier 2 & 3 items, where the market will be very small for a good 6 months or so and especially in small population markets.
If it's going to be an issue for 6 months or so, then it's probably worth coding.

Clicking does nothing, and I can drag items from inventory to vault, but the ones in the vault don't drag.
Thanks guys, at least I know its a bug and not just me being slow!
Just checking because I discovered this myself last week:
when you are at the Auction House, you can see the items in your local vault and you can relist them to sell again, but you can't move them into your inventory. You have to leave the Auction House and go to the bank to actually get those items into your inventory.

I think jsut adding more filtering options would make the system more user friendly.
Being able to filter by Weapons / Armor
Then if I choose Weapons, maybe the base type of weapon, ie.
Longsword, Dagger, Short Sword, etc.
EVE Online, IIRC, uses a faceted search like this to enable people to drill down through a very deep system of craftable items or buyable things.
-
Other thought:
Sometimes, I'm not going to be looking for a specific thing, maybe I'd be willing to use any kind of weapon that is a decent upgrade from what I currently have.
For new characters where buying feats is very cheap, it makes plenty of sense to switch the type of weapon you use if the new weapon you find/buy is an upgrade. There is no reason to hold off upgrading your keyword effects because nobody has put the specific weapon upgrade you are looking for Steel Longsword +2 on the auction house in your town - use switch out feats and use the better weapon you have at hand.
I would only think that more advanced characters would be looking for very specific weapon setups, so the very specific nature of AH searching in place right now seems very unintuitive for newer character needs.
