Regarding interrupted rest

Rules Questions

So last night my party decided to rest in the middle of a goblin den (they were aware of the risk and did it anyway). They made it 6 hours before the goblins attacked. Since they didn't get the required 8 hours, the casters didn't get their spells back, nor did anyone get any sleep healing. That was all fine.

Here's the problem, immediately after the attack, they decided they wanted to rest again since they still have no spells. Now I'm thinking they've been up for 15 mins of heavy combat after a 6 hour sleep, so they're probably not ready for sleep. I also don't really want them to since I know that they've no cleared up pretty much everything in the stronghold, and there's really only 1 fight left before it would make sense for them to hold up for the night.

Regardless of what waits ahead of them, I'm not really sure how to handle it if they want to just sit around all day and night before moving on.

Suggestions?

Thanks

Regarding casters, the rules got ya covered:

Quote:
Rest: To prepare his daily spells, a wizard must first sleep for 8 hours. The wizard does not have to slumber for every minute of the time, but he must refrain from movement, combat, spellcasting, skill use, conversation, or any other fairly demanding physical or mental task during the rest period. If his rest is interrupted, each interruption adds 1 hour to the total amount of time he has to rest in order to clear his mind, and he must have at least 1 hour of uninterrupted rest immediately prior to preparing his spells. If the character does not need to sleep for some reason, he still must have 8 hours of restful calm before preparing any spells.

So it's up to them to decide how long they're willing to hang about.

Regarding sleep in general, AFAIK they never really solidified the criteria or severity of penalties for lack of sleep, though I could swear I've seen at least two designers make suggestions on the matter on this forum.

Beyond that, play it out. If there isn't anything left in the area to interrupt them, nothing interrupts them. If there is, play it out in whatever manner you use to decide whether rest is interrupted.

Character who don't get at least 8 hours of sleep a night (doesn't have to be consecutive hours) are fatigued the next day.

In the case mentioned above, the characters who require sleep to prepare spells (Wizards, arcanists, magi, and witches I think are all of them) will need 3 more hours of sleep. All other characters will need 2 more to avoid fatigue.

Do you have a citation for this? As Blahpers posted above, I'm not aware of any rules in Pathfinder that impose any general penalties for lack of sleep or interrupted sleep (not counting rules for casters and sleep).

Sleep: What penalties happen if a character stays up all night without sleep?

The character is fatigued.

Thanks, I hadn't noticed that FAQ entry (looks like it was posted during the year or so that I was away from the game).
However, it is still very vague and certainly doesn't put a minimum 8 hour requirement to avoid being fatigued.

True, but there has to be a number need to resist fatigue and you need 8 hours for spell, so it makes sense to have 8 hours to avoid fatigue due to this.

Fatigued

Fatigued: A fatigued character can neither run nor charge and takes a -2 penalty to Strength and Dexterity. Doing anything that would normally cause fatigue causes the fatigued character to become exhausted. After 8 hours of complete rest, fatigued characters are no longer fatigued.

There is no strict rule in the book that I can find though.
