Organized Play - Skull & Shackles

Pathfinder Adventure Card Society

Trying to get my head around organized play for Skull & Shackles.

Is one allowed to play and advance one of the starting characters from the main box and character add-on deck? In particular, the swashbucklers, gunslingers, oracles, magi, witches, alchemists, druids and warpriests, for whom no separate "class deck" is available?

I would have presumed it self-evident that these characters would be allowed in Skull & Shackles organized play, but version 1.1 of the OP Guide is quite explicit that only characters from one of the class decks can be played.

Organized play is a separate campaign from the S&S AP. It uses the same cards for sessions, but follows its own path of scenarios. The only officially sanctioned characters are those that have class decks. You could, for example, play a fighter that isn't in the fighter deck (such as the Valeros from the S&S box), but you can't play a character like Lini because there isn't a deck that goes with her class.

The class decks consist of four variations of the class including the iconic (I.e. Valeros, Kyra, etc.). There are seven classes : Bard, Cleric, Fighter, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, and Wizard. Each of the decks consist of 109 card plus a rules card. The iconic is not the same character as in S&S nor RotR.

And while you need to play from a class deck, like Ashram said, you can pick one of those four or the iconic from RotR or from S&S but still using the cards from the class deck.

If you are wanting to play other classes, there are rewards that let you use them with class decks that don't match their own. For example, completing the first Adventure in OP gives you the reward of being allowed to play Jirelle the Swashbuckler in Organized Play, using the Ranger or Rogue deck, can't remember which.

Rogue.

But you can't start that way at first.

Do we know for certain that this will be an option for everyone? Or was this a Gen-con only thing?

Unless they change the first set of scenarios (which Tanis had said these would be the first set we'd play) then unlocking Jirelle was the Adventure reward. (Completing the first six scenarios.)

But then if you choose Jirelle, you'd have to start all over since it would be a new character. I wouldn't count on others unlocking but there is a chance.

So how soon does one need to get involved in PACG OP in order to play the scenarios from the beginning?

Has Paizo announced a firm scenario commencement date or will this happen some time after the Player Decks hit retailer shelves?

I'm interested in getting involved, and don't want to miss the roll-out.

As long as someone was willing to run the scenario, I think you could play it at any time.

Organize Play starts the 24th, but I think organizers sort of decide when they will run which scenarios.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm planning to run two scenarios each week at my FLGS. The newest one night, and the previous another night. At the beginning of each month, probably run all the scenarios from the last month on a Saturday.
