Werewolf Character in Carrion Crown

Let's so you got the go ahead to play a natural lycanthrope in carrion crown...

What class would you pick and why?

EDIT: The character will start at level one and not know he/she is a lycanthrope. Instead of a 2nd class level at level 2, he/she will become aware of her lycanthropic blood. Same question as above please.


Either a cleric or inquisitor of Pharasma. The wisdom boost the template gives will be quite useful for either, both are strong mechanically for that adventure path, and being a member of the Pharasman clergy will give you a strong connection to the themes and setting of Ustalav.

Alternately, if you want to make the most of your alternate forms, play a ranger or a druid from the Shudderwood. Ask your GM to help you devise a background that connects you to one of the werewolf tribes there. A ranger could take the natural weapons route, and a druid could take a an archetype like Nature Fang or Feral Child that gives up wild shape--not as great a loss for a natural shapeshifter.

So the PC will not knwo they are a lycan until level 2? At that point the can choose a different level at 2, based on finding out they are a lycan? Or will level 2 be replaced by some lycan template? The inquiry is a little confusing.

I understand that its totally kosher to have lycans use weapons in D&D/PF but thematically I just dont like that idea. I'd probably go monk or unarmed fighter, perhaps druid. I probably would make the character want to be in touch with nature and their animal side as much as possible.


I'd read / skim / read the spoilers for some famous werewolf novel and pick a class that most closely represents said werewolf. Human race, of course.

I dont think it's possible for a natural lycanthrope to not know they're a werewolf? But, I've played a character similar to this before in Carrion Crown, who used to be and afflicted Lycanthrope and was cured into something similar to a Skinwalker, before rules for those existed.

I went Ranger, to explain a woodsy backstory and vulnerability to such an attack, as well as giving good stats to get along well in the wild both in a party and any self imposed isolation. Plus, gives you an animal companion if you want to display an 'affinity' for wolves.

If you're a werewolf in Ustalav, you probably want to keep it a secret.

Have to get to bed, but I want to get this question posted first...

Are you the player, or the GM? As a GM who has a naturalized werewolf in her party, I would recommend being very careful with this idea. In my campaign, Thanos is a dhampir cleric of Urgathoa (also unholy vindicator) who became a werewolf and got it naturalized. It's been very challenging to run for, and rather unbalancing; I'm not sure a single level is enough of a trade-off. That said, it can also counterbalance an otherwise weak build.
