Has ANYONE beaten the final scenario solo?

I looked through the "Conquering Heroes" sticky post and noticed not a single solo "team". I had a strong team of Lini and Amiri go all the way through the AP and lose pretty badly in the final scenario, so I'm wondering if this final scenario against Karzoug is harder for smaller teams. And that last one is sort of like the Game of Thrones ("...you win or you die.").

So, my question is, has anyone beaten it solo, either because they played all the way through with a single character, or they were down to a single character by the end of the AP?

I'm retrying with just Merisiel, but I'm wondering about her chances, even if I try to optimize her to prepare for that last battle.

I remember someone saying somewhere they had soloed each of the eleven characters.

I am currently working on a few. The one farthest along was my Seelah, who won.

Interestingly enough my wife and I finished the final scenario this last weekend with Lini and Amiri. Just before the last scenario we dumped several cards that we would never have let go otherwise, but only because we had a rough idea of what was coming (we try to not look at the villains and henchmen before running the scenario, but we view the scenario card as fair game). So, we kept items, allies, spells (multiple spyglasses) that would let us look at the top cards and keep pushing the villain down towards the bottom so we only had to deal with him once. This may have been key to our success.

Solo -- only one character -- no, but we did do it with a small party.

We've now restarted with two characters each while we wait for S&S to arrive. The game is definitely different with a larger team, but my GUESS is that some things are harder and some are easier, but you can get a different difficulty even with the same number of characters depending on the particular character mix.

We've managed it with 2 - Ezren and Merisiel, but not tried with 1.

I think for the final scenario all normal deck strategy rules go out of the window, and you just want as many spyglasses, magic spyglasses, auguries, scryings and then the revelation quill when you get down to 5 cards in the location - anything to avoid encountering Karzoug more than once.

To be fair found that an excess of scouting cards was the best strategy for almost all scenarios.

Trouble is- too many scrying cards leaves you with nothing to defeat the cards once you've looked at them...

Wow, someone doesn't have a job (or did, but doesn't any more!). If s/he played Perils to pick up that extra skill feat, that's 33 x 11 = 363 scenario plays, assuming no failures/repeats. I mean, I've played the game a fair number of times, but wow! :)

I'm playing solo with some characters, but it's a hard game. If you have a bad lucky with die than you may perish. I'm on AP3 with Merisiel, I cant play as much as I wanted so this is my most advanced character.

It's not one person! We collect playtest reports on every session, and what we mean is that for every scenario/character combination, at least one of our playtesters succeeded in soloing that scenario with that character.

That makes much more sense. ;)

I've gotten through the first six scenarios so far with Merisiel (the first three being Perils), and it's tough. I've had to replay three scenarios of the six to succeed. I can keep her from dying, but I find it hard for her to obtain boons since her Int, Wis, and Cha skills are low-to-average.

Ahh, then I either misunderstood or when I read it it wasn't clear that it wasn't one person.

Still, good to know it's possible. Did the reports include when people substituted locations/banes that were simply too difficult for a particular character?

In general, our playtesters were told not to use that rule.

I have completed the game with every character played solo, without any bane substitutions, and playing permadeath.

And, yes, I do have a job, thank you.

Seconded.

Do you plan to run each of the Skull & Shackles and Class Deck characters through RotR as well?

Um, no, I do actually have a life. With the class deck and Ranzak that would be 40 characters. I won't do all of the normal characters solo through S&S either, since the scenarios in Skull & Shackles are coming out twice as fast. I'll probably pick a few of them to solo though.

Yes, I managed to solo the game with Merisiel (I'll post the final list on that thread when I get home) though it did come down to having to roll an 8 or better on a D12 or else I was screwed (three cards left in my deck, I rolled a 12).

Rather than the scrying strategy I figured out that whenever I ran across the villain I would recharge everything possible and throw the fight. Since excess damage is ignored I would lose a card or two and then move on. I did get lucky that after encountering the villain with four cards left that he wound up on the bottom (I didn't know this until later, but breathed a huge sigh of relief when I revealed the second to last card).

I managed to solo nearly all of Runelords with Merisiel. I had a little trouble with one scenario that had an Int 12 check to close, and I died pretty messily on the last scenario. But other than that it was very doable. You certainly want a Blessing of Gozreh for some of those later locations that are tricky to close.

I've beaten rise with melee meresiel, ezren, melee and caster lini, Seelah (who really starts rolling after part 4 or so), a couple of my own characters (my wizard, monk, and bard), and melee and caster Kyra. I just haven't posted them because I tend to post at work and I don't tend to bring my characters with.
