Searching for Prelude to Wrath of the Righteous

Wrath of the Righteous

To the members of this forum,

I am in preparations to run a Wrath of the Righteous campaign for my group, but was wondering something: is there a short module or adventure I could run to introduce my group into the area around Mendev and the Worldwound? Or would jumping in directly be the best bet?

I ask because about half of my group is new to the Pathfinder system, and I thought fleshing out the area and letting them get to know how to play could be taken out with one stone. So I ask, is there a good prelude adventure to Wrath of the Righteous?

Book 1 of Wrath is a GREAT place to start them actually. Sometimes the scope and scale of tabletop RPGs can intimidate new players with a "what do I do when I can do anything I want?" paralysis. The beginning of Wrath provides you with NPCs to advise and guide them without taking the spotlight in combat, and relatively few options with where to go and what to do.

I would work very hard on your intro speech, weave in some background on the Crusades. Make sure your NPCs are aggressive about asking ad answering eachothers (and the PCs) questions in the first session to make them feel comfortable conversing in character.

Maybe expand the underground bit to include some basic tests (climb, acrobatics, knowledge, diplomacy) and ability checks (STR, CON, WIS) to lift stuff, hold your breathe, tell which way is north so they get used to rolling dice too.

I enjoy running prelude adventures, and was planning on running The Demon Within for my group (as a one-shot, set five years before The Worldwound Incursion). My players declined in favor of jumping right into the AP, but it's out there. It does have some issues--not only do you need to convert it from D20 to Pathfinder, but it was also early days for Golarion and Mendev, the Worldwound, and even demons themselves have evolved slightly away from what's presented here.

At the very least, however, it provides complete maps from two notable (though offstage) locations in the AP: The Cathedral of Saint Clydwell and Clydwell Keep.

Duly noted Amos. Thank you for your response.

Very interesting. I was thinking of incorporating that module later in the adventure, but I always like more maps. Thank you for the response.

Silver Crusade

I can recommend from personal experience to take your players aside and give everybody a separate introduction. Speak about why the decided to join the crusade, let them walk about the city for a while, show them some of the sights ( my paladin player go a tour of the museum, and even saw the place were radiance was supposed to be ). Let them do what they want, but don’t bring the group together yet, just let them know that there will be a grand ceremony for new crusaders in a day or two.

Take your time describing the cathedral, the place filled with people, let the mood really set in… and then do as the adventure tells you. I would advise against reading the text completely without giving the players at least the illusion of choice. Saving some innocents, trying to get outside to fight the demons, or other tactics should at least look like the could work (saving an NPC or two from falling debris, or preventing them from getting trampled by the masses). Take your time, but make sure that your players end up in the right place.

And once you are down there, the bugs aren’t the important feature, take your sweet time to introduce the NPCs. If they don’t hate Horgus, well they might be saints ^^

Interesting. Thank you for your response.

Hi,

I'm considering running the AP and I'm also considering using a prelude module to both spend some time in Kenabres before the main action picks up, and so I can skip most of the underground stuff in the first adventure. The adventure I'm considering running is Peril in King's Landing for the Ice and Fire RPG from Green Ronin. It's a political intrigue adventure set around a tournament, which I think fits in nicely with the festival at the beginning of Worldwound Incursion.

Since its not a Pathfinder scenario and not set in Golarion you'll need to file off some serial numbers and find stats for the encounters, but considering how many monster books there are for PF that shouldn't take long.

You can learn more about it here:
