Generating a Level 5 Wizard - Arcane Bond Item

Rules Questions

Can you use your starting wealth to buy a Ring of Protection +1, and use that as your Arcane Bond Item? Obviously it would require you to pay for the ring, since the CRB states that the ring is free, but assumes you are starting at level 1.

You can actually start with a valueless ring and have it crafted at 3rd (so even at 5th) level as a Ring of Protection +1. By yourself. Even without the appropriate feat. You'll get another 1000 gp of equipment, too. Crafting is economically good :D!

Forge Ring requires level 7.

A wizard can add additional magic abilities to his bonded object as if he has the required item creation feats and if he meets the level prerequisites of the feat.

If you want to be able to enchant your bonded object at minimum level, it would have to be a Wonderous Item, i.e. Amulet.

To the original poster, I don't see how you would get enough starting wealth to afford a magical item at first level. You can take a magical item you have and bond to it assuming it is the correct sort of item.

Sorry, I mentioned generating a level 5 wizard in the title. I believe you start with 10.5k.

Right, but Forge Ring requires level 7, until then, you cannot use your ability to modify your Arcane Bond Ring. If it were an amulet, you can modifty it at level 3 for example, as that is the requirement for Craft Wondrous Items.
