On the heels of TPK Games' release of "Laying Waste: A Guide to Critical Combat" is the official app for your Android phone or tablet!
This app puts all the fantastic and well-balanced critical effects from "Laying Waste" at your fingertips. It even allows you to optionally roll the various associated effects' durations, subtables and saving throws as well.
Special thanks to TPK Games for developing a quick, fun and versatile new critical system and for providing support throughout the development process.
Now available in the Google Play Store.

Let me make sure I understand how this app works.
One of my characters gets a crit with his longsword and rolls to make it a moderate crit. I tell the app to randomize a moderate slashing crit and then it tell me what the crit was and displays the rules associated with it (save, condition applied, and heal?)
Edit: does it support critical fumbles, too? Will it in the future?

It basically reveals the information as it is written in the book. You then have the option of having the app roll any necessary dice rolls for you.
An example (and Total Party Kill Games, please do let me know if I shouldn't have posted this example):
Rattled
Target suffers maximum damage and is confused for 1 round.
Save: DC 25 (XX*) Will save** negates; deals bonus damage instead.
Heal: DC 25 (XX) Heal check ends the confused condition.
*) XX represents the die roll, assuming you tell the app to make the necessary rolls.
**) A possible error in the app text, which has Willpower instead of Will save.
EDIT: Fumbles are not supported in the current version of the app.
EDIT 2: A possible bug. Whenever I exit and reopen the app, the sound effects are on, even though I've put the sound effects option to off.

@YuenglingDragon - The app doesn't currently support fumbles, but I'll likely have an update in the near-future to add that functionality. Thanks for the feedback.

@Heine Stick - Thanks for working through that example. I think you may be right on the sound preference bug. I'll debug it tonight and roll out an update if necessary.

I believe the app currently only supplements the sourcebook. It will generate the critical hits (but not fumbles as of yet) and it is up to the player to determine the severity (light, moderate or severe). At this point, one copy of Laying Waste would be necessary per group.
In addition, it comes with a ton of extra content, such as over 100 feats and 16 martial archetypes for use with Laying Waste.

I'm a couple of weeks away from a pretty big reduction in my income and will probably have to replace my computer soon as well, so, sadly, even though I'm very interested in alternatives to the current critical system I probably can't justify dropping the cash on a gaming PDF, so I was hoping the app would be enough. Oh well.

Ninja in the Rye |

I'm ok for the things I need, just have to cut anything extra from the budget for a while. I had some credit on play store so I went ahead and grabbed the app, it does a solid enough job explaining the base mechanics, though, I'm sure I'm missing out on some cool stuff without the pdf.
I'll probably try to get my gaming group to go in on a copy when the physical books come out which will be better for sharing around the table anyway.

Part of the fighter's capstone ability is auto-confirming crits, which is rendered moot in this system. I wonder, does TPK Games (or anyone else for that matter) have a suggestion on how to fix the capstone?
I'm looking forward to really getting into this system in play, but I think my fighter will be a little sad if she makes it to level 20 and my GM and I haven't found a solution by then :)

Necroblivion wrote:If you want to auto confirm crits, just have them automatically deal a light critical hit. Or add +10 to the severity check, which along with the d20 roll should net at least a light critical.+10 it is. :)
On the opposite note, does anyone modify the DC required for severity if the initial attack roll is a crit, but would have otherwise missed?
Like a Nat 20 that auto hits but when modified could have missed mathematically speaking?

I never have, but there is nothing wrong with doing so in your games. We always use the '20 Always Hits' and '1 Always Misses' rules. I suppose that if you needed a 20 to hit something, the bonus on the severity check will be so low that it is unlikely they will see a critical effect, let alone need to be penalized. It's sort of built in.

Quintain |

That is true. But the severity check is just for additional effects. It will always be maximum damage regardless, which in most games is pretty significant for those who are able to jack up their AC pretty high, but can't do the same with their hit points when being attacked by high damage but not high CR creatures.
