What the PCs did with the Revelation Quill....

Rise of the Runelords

So they researched the Revelation Quill and found out its powers, so what did they do?

1) Made a bench sized wooden box that could hold 160 glass ink vials safely.
2) Made a small animated object (craft construct feat)
3) Put both 1,2 and the Revelation Quill in their overly protected vault.
4) Commanded the little construct to leave the Revelation Quill in each vial for 1 hour and then move it to the next vial. When all the vials were full wait for further instructions.

An ink vial costs 8gp, so you can sell it for 4gp. Cost of a glass vial is 1 gp. 4-1=3gp profit. 3*160=480gp.

Every week they plan to teleport to another city and sell their ink vials for 480gp.

Five 13th level characters using an artifact to make 480gp/week. Mind you they know they can make money much easier a hundred different ways... but "Every copper counts!"

Gotta love PCs!

That seems very tame for PCs. How long will it take to pay off the initial investment in the chest and construct?

Gotta plan for retirement I guess. 480 gold a week would be a nice pension if you survive adventuring.

25,000 gp a year. Not a bad little racket. And, honestly, not enough to really break the economy. It just about pays for two wands of cure light wounds every third week. I forget when and where you find this, but if it's where I suspect, the amount of money they're pulling in with this little trick is chump change by the time they find it. I'd let them go ahead and have this little victory.

My PCs are spending money as fast as its coming in.
Between making magical item and having buildings built they usually have less than 500gp each.

They are currently trying to find a safe way to rent out the Anathema Archive to spells caster so that they can use it to 'wish' for a +1 inherent bonus to a stat.
Since a material component isn't needed (considered a scroll) a simple restoration (100gp material component) will restore the wisdom drain.

How much would your character be willing to pay for a +1 inherent bonus to a stat of their choice?

(By safe way I mean that someone more powerful won't take it from them)

Don't forget the rules say "Vial, ink or potion" costs 1 gp, and "Ink in colors other than black costs twice as much".

So 160 ink vials = 160 gp.
50% black = 4-1 = 3gp profit
any color = 8-1 = 7gp profit
160 gp in, 240gp + 560 gp = 800 gp out, 640 gp profit.

Use Fabricate with the "junk" thrown out by the Kaijitsu Glassworks in Sandpoint, and your profit goes up to 800 gp! (160 oz of glass equals 10 lbs, you don't even need a wheelbarrow!)

160 oz = 160 hours = 6.66 days, by the way.

6.66 days.., your going to lose a little bit of time as the construct moves the quill from vial to vial, so 7 days.

Gobbie the Ink Gnome (Construct) ended up costing 500gp (1000gp * (1 HD + 0 cp) = base cost, 1/2 is build cost)

I think the bench/chest cost like 50gp.

Glass works don't have alot of waste... they just reuse old glass (the exception being colored glass that is too dark). So I don't think fabricate would be useable there. You could buy clear glass and fabricate your vials, but that doesn't help out the local economy.

The color thing is true I didn't figure that in. With a chance of a random color I think there will be some unusable colors created that merchants wouldn't buy (like 1/40)

80 black ink * 3 = 240gp
78 colored ink * 7 = 546

786gp/week isn't bad at all. Thats 40,872 gold per year or enough money to build 2 Palaces/year and have enough money to live on.

You would of course soon flood the market and the price would drop rapidly. So you'll need to arrange for exports, employ local salesmen and guards, deal with import tariffs, storage and whatnot.

Thats where teleport comes into play. Selling items 1400+ miles away from one another won't really flood the market very fast.

Teleport and a Handy Haversack to keep the ink vials from clinking together. You could literally Teleport to Magnimar, Korvosa, Riddleport, Kaer Maga, and Janderhoff on different days in the same week and it would take mundane merchants' guilds weeks to find out the market had been flooded. Then get Greater Teleport and Absalom, Katapesh, Egorian, and Eleder open up for market saturation.

Constructs? Bah you're overthinking it. When we came up with this scheme, we just employed some commoners to do the labouring. we trusted them with it on account of the vague mentions we made of being very powerful, and being willing to hunt someone who betrayed us to the ends of Golarion...

Commoners get drunk and talk too much... Constructs don't.

Someone else finds you've been gone for a month, you may have someone breaking into your house or one of the commoners thinking you're dead and he could start his own business.

A 10th level sorcerer would charge 500 gp to cast teleport, so they are making about par for a caster casting teleport, but then nothing on their way back (assuming the trip`s profit is 480 gp).

If your caster can cast teleport he could just offer to teleport people around and make just as much. :)
