Point was the fighter may not have that much, if any, better than the ranger when all is said and done.

Well, that and other classes can benefit from a full 22 dexterity in full plate, and because its medium they also get their class features that require medium. Mr Ranger appreciates mithral and celestial full plate.

Mithral full plate is +3 dex bonus max. Who's enjoying more out of it than the fighter? Mr. Ranger still requires a feat to gain proficiency in heavy armor and he will have his movement hindered. No one gains more benefits to wearing armor than the fighter.
