I've started to realize that we've got a bunch of computer programmers in our community. Everyone's more or less working on their own.
What would happen if we got them all together and told them to build something like wowhead or allakazam for PFO?
I want to find out.
I've got a domain and webhosting we can build off of and I'm a decent programmer.

I don't know, but my gut says maybe.
A crowdforged game with a crowdforged gaming info site.
Just open a wikia wiki...
Virgil Firecask wrote: A crowdforged game with a crowdforged gaming info site. I like it! However, as I am at only the end-user level of computer-related knowledge, I can only offer a post-creation posting presence.
Pfo.wiki should still be available. I had reserved it, but then cancelled it once I learned that another wiki had already started.
Actually, I was thinking of something a bit more robust than a wiki. For those familiar with sites like wowhead, it's more like what I was thinking. A searchable database, various tools for things like calculating crafting, and dynamic and custom mapping tools to just name a few of the ideas I have.
Wikis are good for things like lore and information that doesn't change that often and may be part of this project, but definitely not the focus.

That was somewhat my goal looking at pfo.wiki - was looking for some way to put together a "one-stop-shop" for all known information about pfo, in some sort of extremely easy-to-navigate site... like wowhead.

This is actually very much the kind of thing The Seventh Veil has been interested in doing for over two years now. It's almost guaranteed I'll contribute towards something like this, but I can't say where right now.

Do you wanna build a web siiiiiite?
It can be like Wowhead
searchable database
tools to calculate
And a wiki that's often reeeaaad.
Damn you, Proxima! I noticed this thread too late.
"Okay, but why is your Pathfinder Online comprehensive website named olaf.net?"
Heard During A Battle: "Oh, will you look at that. I've been impaled."
"I will eat your flesh and pick my teeth with your BONES!!!"
"Ha! I don't have any bones."

It's almost like someone was humming that song while making the thread title... strange.

Still? I'd tell you to let it go but that one's too easy to see coming so I'll just Give Up.
Life's Too Short to deal with this crap.
Proxima Sin of Brighthaven wrote: "Okay, but why is your Pathfinder Online comprehensive website named olaf.net?" because people would try to google it and end up finding Oglaf.
The one thing to hope for that GW does will be implementing API. If that happens stuff like this will make the world a s$&+ ton easier.
However, no indication from GW about any API related implementations.

:D
Wowhead wrote: Database Sites
Wowhead
LolKing
DayZDB
D3head
Rifthead
Torhead
Torchlight Armory
Dragon Nest Armory
Final Fantasy XI
Everquest
Everquest II
Maybe wowhead team could assist us in the matter, since they do it for swtor and a lot of others games...
BUT, they did "scroll" up the layout lasts months, too much overweigh and too slow for the purpose...
I remember the good times of Thottbot.com fast, clean and objective, but all community made informations.

If people were interested in something like this I would be more than happy to work with others on the PFOFan.com site to implement some of this functionality.
So, some examples of what I'm talking about. Since we don't have any game information to build tools out of yet, I have built a couple examples of what I'm talking about based on the land rush and Goblinworks posts.
Land Rush Leaderboard - Automatically goes out and scrapes all guild information from Goblinworks every 15 minutes and updates a database. Allows for a slightly longer leaderboard view. (currently you need to refresh the page to see updates, but I'll fix that this week)
Green Post Tracker - Pulls developer forum posts to give you a quick and dirty list to keep up with the official word on things. List is updated every 5 minutes. (currently you need to refresh the page to see updates, but I'll fix that this week)
You're apparently reading my mind because that post tracker and the map you mentioned in another thread are two ideas I started looking into myself.
sounds like a really good idea, i still play a lot of WoW and wowhead is one of my favourite resources
We need to get Virgil's green post tracker and map, Harad's maps, Caldeathe's spreadsheet, and links to the official GW website and Gobbocast all consolidated on Dak's page. That would be the start of the OP in the real world.
