Kingmaker -Rivers Run Red- Recruitment

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 109 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

I'm running kingmaker. I am very interested in the Kingdom building aspects so I decided to skip the first book. I want players who have already played the first book in the path. That book is the background for this game.

I will be using the Ultimate Campaign rules for kingdom building. As well as their downtime rules.

20 point buy
core races
all books 3rd party on request (maybe)

Game starts at level 4 with normal wealth per level so 6,000 however you can't spend more then 2,000 on any one item. Also everyone starts with 5 influence and 5 goods.

So any players who have already completed the stolen land?

I could be interested.

Scarab Sages

so more looking for kingdom roles as much as charector roles? I would be interested core races and 20 point buy huh?

How would you feel about someone who DMed the first book? I ran some friends through the first book and a single session of the second before it fizzled out due to schedule problems, so I know the story thus-far, am not spoiled for later, and can easily play like the early bits of book two never happened for me. If so, I'd like to roll up a bard for this.

Lantern Lodge

Certainly interested.

DMed the first book is great.

Another stretch here, I've read the first book a couple times and started DMing it for some family (though I only see them once a month or so). I'll gladly read through it again if need be. I know i gotta look up rules for Ultimate Campaign as I know very little from it. Mind if I place a bid on a character spot?

Janku might be interested. Played most of the way through the first book, before dropping out. He could be scaled back to level four pretty painlessly.

Count me interested. How long will you be holding recruitment open & how many are you looking for? Also, as was noted up-thread, are you looking for Kingdom roles as well as background/crunch? Do you accept multiple character submissions from the same player (with the understanding that you would only select one, at most)?

I am looking for kingdom roles, but really any PC seems to be fitted to some kingdom role that is how they made the roles.

I will accept multiple character submissions, but if you do that don't use alies yet so I can tell they are all from the same person.

I will end submissions Sunday Noon. It is Friday 8:54 for me.

Having gotten level 2 in the first book will be enough provided you are willing to do some research.

How are you allocating HP after first level?

Edit: Also, your statement 'all books', does this mean all of Paizo's Pathfinder books (IE: APG, UM, UC, ARG, are you allowing the currently playtested classes from the ACG?)

Don't know what the ACG is. I think allowing things that have not been play-tested yet might be going a bit far.

Couple questions as I finish up my character (though I may make a few more since we can submit multiple characters). Do we get traits? Do you want us to submit our characters here or through PM? In case someone or myself rolls up a gunslinger, how are you playing firearms? I can't think of anything else at the moment, but I'll probably think up of more. I'm fairly new to the PbP scene (currently playing no games honestly, but I've applied to one) so sorry if I come off a bit ignorant.

1.Traits yes 2 of them.
2. Submit here
3.I am alright with fire arms, but only in the hands of PC's.

But the Advanced Player's Guide, Ultimate Magic & Ultimate Combat are acceptable?

edit: Also, how are we determining hit points after first level?

Max hitpoints first level half dice +1 on all the rest. You can use the downtime rules to increase your hp to full dice.

Advanced Player's Guide, Ultimate Magic & Ultimate Combat are fine.

Aside from still needing to pick out spells, may I present to you the young Rory Ward. Rory Fluff:
Rory is the bastard son of one of the Nobels of Brevoy but grew up not knowing. His mother was one of the personal servant for a noblewoman living in the castle. As he grew up he befriended many of the other children living in the castle, including his half-sister, though neither knew the truth. As they grew older, the began to develop feelings for each other, something their father obviously strongly discouraged. However, it wasn't until the Lady found out the truth that Rory was forced to flee. At the cost of her own life, Rory's mother hide him away with a family friend of hers who took Rory out of the city. Rory spent the remainder of his youth learning the harsh life of those who live outside the castle walls. He took advantage of the life he came from though, the knowledge he gained left him fluent in various languages as well as aware of the proper protocol of social intercourse. He is a quick study and learned how to play various instruments and dances, perhaps his favorite being the lute. Despite all this, he holds a harsh resentment towards the noble class of Brevoy and seeks to surpass them any way he can. When he learned of the expedition to the Stolen Lands, he believed it to be his best chance at doing just that.

As for what kingdom roles Rory seeks to fill; Ruler (obviously), but also Councilor and Grand Diplomat. Hope you enjoy looking him over and I promise to look into Ultimate Combat when I can.

It's ultimate Campaign. The equipment is fine. Like the char. However I would like it if your backstory included things done in the stolen land.

Also if anyone knows how to set up a map like this http://tkingmaker.comze.com/kingmaker/Stolen-Lands.html

and will keep it updated in the game he/she is pretty much auto in.

Sorry, meant ultimate campaign. So I can gauge how much to put into my backstory, how much of the sandbox should I assume we did? All of the stuff or just the "core" story?

Up to you. Part of this recruitment is deciding on backstory.

I'm about halfway through the first book, does that count? Plus I'm good at catching on to what happened, and where I am in the story.

What classes are allowed? Archetypes allowed?

Allowed. Yes. Try and make something that fits the campaign.

it's not letting me edit my post so here's my update to Rory's background once he reached the Stolen Lands. Hopefully this is good enough.

Stolen Lands Rory:
Upon Reaching the Stolen Lands, he immediately took charge diplomatically. He calmed Oleg and his wife, assuring them they would solve their problems and after defeating the initial group of bandits with the others and after clearing out the Thorn River Camp, came up with the plan to infiltrate the stag lord's fortress as new bandits delivering his alcohol. Seeing Akiros join them in their fight against the Stag Lord and speaking with him afterward, Rory vouches for him, believing he truly wishes to improve his life.

Aside from his involvement with the bandits, Rory also aided in the nearly bloodless end to the Mite/Kobold war after exposing Tartuk's plans, earning him the nickname "Scalefriend" from the Sootscales. Rory has gone most of his time through the Stolen Lands attempting to use his words before his blade and, when drawn into battle, rather spend it supporting his allies instead of dipping into combat himself.

** spoiler omitted **

Just so you know, you can edit your posts but only if you do it within an hour after you first posted.

And I was considering submitting a cleric of Gorum, but given the story you're painting maybe if I try another cleric it should be one that's a bit less violent :)

It's more my base for what I'd like to be my background. If I'm picked, I'm all for editing it to fit with whoever else gets picked so we can have an agreeable bk 1 adventure. I like the idea of being called Scalefriend though so that's the only bit I may be a bit stubborn on not wanting to give up.

Also, depending on how many people sign up, I might make a Titan Mauler Barbarian as well to try for a spot that's very much a swing first ask questions later kind of character.

I was thinking a party of 6 would be good. With some NPC's in the council.

Oh, I just realized I forgot one language cause of my four ranks in Linguistics. Mind if I grab Undercommon to add legitimacy to me acting as a diplomat between the Mites and Kobolds?

No problem. It is usually better to your stats in your profile to you can edit them. Try and make them easy to read I might have to do rolls for you. I hate keeping people waiting.

alright. Well I rather wait and see if I get in first, mainly cause Miss Lori here is an applicant to another pbp. Plus you said to hold off on creating aliases if we planned on making multiple characters, and I'm not 100% sure i'm not going to make a barbarian. That all depends on how many people sign up by tomorrow night.

Submitting Darg Blonke for your consideration.

Nice story, but we are stating at level 4.

I am interested in Kingmaker and can make that kind of map easily. Please check out any of my other characters like Fatima or Morrigan so that you know I can really do it.

I am interested in playing a darker themed character and either working within a typical fantasy realm as the nasty councilor or creating a tyrannical realm like Cheliax.

If there are other players interested or if you are completely against it, please let me know. If not, I'll be happy to submit a character.

You said 3rd party was okay if looked at. How would you feel about bounty hunter? bounty hunter The reason, I can use the bonus feats which differ from fighter bonus feat to travel really fast. The hex crawl rules do not state how fast you travel to another hex if your base speed is higher than 50, but I'm sure some math can be done. In addition, I would multi-class this with barbarian to give me +10 movement and for my bonus feats, I would take fleet over and over and over again most of the time, therefore I'm faster than a horse and can reach a hex in half the time.

@Hilde Alfborne: Cheliax never seemed like a realist kingdom to me. With they have zombie slaves why do they need human slaves? But in any case you seem to be in we can discuss your dark bent later.

@DoubleGold:the bounty hunter seems like it has all the stuff of the fighter and the rogue plus better saves. Still the rogue and fighter are the ones most called underpowered so alright.

cool and what would your ruling be for crossing a hex if my base speed is way above 50? believe me I will be way above 50 movement very early but 40 to 45 to start with barbarian 1 for fast movement, then bounty hunter all the way.

@DoubleGold: Having trouble finding a online calculator to fit the curve to the data points how about you do the math

Party speed Plains All other Terrains
15/11 hours/ 16 hours
20/8 hours/ 12 hours
30/5 hours/ 8 hours
40/4 hours/ 6 hours
50/3 hours/ 5 hours

Heres a site that should help you with the math http://hotmath.com/hotmath_help/topics/fitting-equations-to-data.html

It looks almost exactly like linear progression, not perfect but close enough, linear in terms of 30 is double 15 and 5.5 is half of 11, 30 is 50% more than 20 and 5 is almost 50% less time than 8 and so on.
Can we say this? Doing this in multiples of 10?
60/2.5 hours/4 hours. double speed of 30
70/2.28 hours/3.43 hours. Took this from 20, 3.5 times the speed.
80/2 hours/3 hours, double speed of 40.
90/1.6 hours/2.66 hours, triple speed of 30.
You can round if you want, not sure if you want to round to the nearest half hour or to the nearest minute.

Seems good. Keep in mind that is only the plains speed. I roads are faster and forests and such are slower.

Round to the nearest 1/4 hour.

Also I want to mention that for this game. I want real go getters. Players who will push the envelope for kingdom building. I plan on pushing back.

I hope i can deliver then if picked. Like I said earlier, I'm completly new to pbp. Also, can we select drawbacks as well? I only just now discovered them and they seem pretty interesting and a neat way to add a bit of depth to our characters

Don't see any need for drawbacks. Depth comes from playing.

Alrighty.

Also everyone starts with 5 influence and 5 goods.
What kind of goods we talking about? I mean things can be bought with gold? And I don't see what you are talking about in the PDF, I see influence and a sheet, like the thing that says economy, loyalty and stability, but nothing for kingmaker specific goods.

It's in the downtime rules of Ultimate Campaign.

You mean I have to spend money to play this?

Also here

Awesome, I played the first book of Kingmaker and I've always wanted to start it up again. I have a fighter I'll post before the deadline--just need to adjust his gear and stats (ours was 15 point buy).

Okay, Ridge here with Adular Garess, Cleric of Gorum. Profile should have everything. I've played the first book through more than once, never played the second book all the way through.

I'm really not familiar with the ultimate campaign but I'm willing to learn. I picture him as going for the High Priest position, but there are other roles he might yet fit. The profile should be totally filled out, but for the story ideas once he got to the stolen lands

Into the Greenbelt:

Adular thrived in his adventures. When he and the others arrived at Oleg's, it soon became apparent to Adular that Oleg had a fighting spirit particularly when it came to protecting his wife. Adular could respect that, and gladly helped. While there was no time to repair the catapults before the bandits would return, Adular made note of them for later use.
Then his first squabble with the party came up. Adular wanted to try a straight fight, others suggested 'sneakier methods' against the bandits. Adular found himself outvoted and tried to find solace in the fact that ambushes did have their strategic use.

The ambush went well for the heroes. Three bandits died in the first moments of the fight, and the others went quickly. Adular took particular pleasure in cutting down the cowardly ones. Oleg went down in a pool of blood when one called "Happs" targetted him out of vengeance. Adular rushed to stand over the brave fellow who had served as their bait, and with the others, managed to defeat Happs. Indeed, Happs called for quarter, but before it could come to a vote, Adular informed Happs he was a coward for attacking the unarmed Oleg, and landed the killing stroke. The cleric then saved Oleg just in time with healing magics. Swetlana was so grateful she nearly killed Adular by overfeeding him. Some of the others in the party gave the cleric their own firm opinions about what would happen in the future if someone cried quarter, and Adular explained how Happs was an honorless attacker of the weak who deserved naught but death.

The religious debate lasted till the wee hours. Fortunately, more practical members interogated the few surviving bandits and learned more of the Stag lord and his threat.

As the exploration of the land mixed with ending the Stag Lord's threat, Adular began to respect his compatriots more and more, even some of the sneakier and more peaceful ones. At least one pointed out to him that the kobolds they'd found would be useful allies in wars to come. Indeed, that companion would earn the title "Scalefriend" from the little dragon want to bes. Though Adular protested that they should at least be allowed to slaughter all the mites if the kobolds really where their allies now.

While he considered converting the Kobolds to Gorum's worship, Adular realized it couldn't be a priority so soon. For the Gorum priest, the most disturbing incident was probably the encounter with two fairies. For three days, Adular would wake up with bows in his beard and hair, and flowers in his scabbard! It was unnerving! Fortunately another companion was wiser in fae lore than he was, and helped him find some peace.

Jhod found Adular's part in the reclaiming of a temple of Erastil a mixed blessing. While the place was purified, Adular wanted to rededicate it to the glory of Gorum! Jhod was, of course, horrified. Amiably, Adular offered to wrestle the older priest for it. The servant of Deadeye declined but suggested that maybe Gorum could one day have his OWN temple in the area? Adular agreed, with a proviso that a small stone bearing the words 'Conquered and then liberated by Gorum's will this day of...' be put at the path to the Erastil's temple, only to be removed when a proper shrine or temple of the Iron Lord actually DID go up.

Kressle and her bandits were feeling smug in their camp, but even Adular's snarkiest party members had to give Adular credit when the catapult he'd repaired and wheeled up within a half mile of the camp broke their watch tower and send the bandits into a blind panic. Kressle herself was slain by someone else but Adular found her cursing about 'A bloody catapult?!' hilarious.

Oleg's had gotten busy, and Adular was surprised to find a cousin, one Kesten Garess, now acting to guard it. While Kesten was somewhat morose, Adular did his best to lift the man's spirits and the two became friends.

Adular was less than thrilled with the idea of using subterfuge AGAIN to slip into the fort of the Stag Lord. However, he yielded when it was pointed out that the fort being broken down by siege engines might cost them a perfectly good hold out of their own if they ever needed a place besides Oleg's outpost. Trickery aside, the battle was fierce once it began, and Adular was in his element. His power had grown in the last few months under the crucible that was the Stolen Lands he empowered the warriors of his group to fight better than they ever had before. And they needed it, for these were the finest of their foes. Adular himself was nearly killed by a druid who turned out to be none other than the father of the stag lord. The cleric survived that encounter, but only because of an ally. It was a very close call, and Adular gained a new scar from it.

Obviously all the above is subject to change as needed for the group. I can also change his alignment from CN to CG if it's better for party harmony but by this time I figure he's learned to respect all his fellows to at least some degree.

Grand Lodge

Definitely interested. Currently, I am working on a Cavalier (perhaps an eventual Battle Herald?), but I do have a few questions. Are we going to decide on kingdom roles such as ruler, high priest, etc. ahead of time, or are those roles going to be decided after play has begun? I am considering the Order of the Lion, but it seems a bit odd to be extremely adamant about a sovereign that is not yet established.

My second question involves prestige classes, specifically the Hell Knight. One of the prerequisites is to have defeated a devil in front of a Hell Knight, which I assume is unlikely to come up in Kingmaker. If I decide to make a Hell Knight, would I be able to simply work this pre-req into his backstory?

Thanks in advance!
