Eidolon Impact on Summoner's Leadership Score

Rules Questions

I've dug into the FAQ a little, and searched the Rules Forum, and don't see anything addressing this.

Assumption: You have a summoner who has taken the Leadership feat.

Question: Should the summoner's eidolon be treated as a "familiar, special mount, or animal companion" for purposes of the summoner's Leadership Score when attracting a cohort?

Rationale Behind Question:
Based on what I can see in the rules, I think the RAW answer is "no". If anything, it might even grant a bonus to leadership under the category "special power".

However, I don't imagine that's RAI, or that I've just plain overlooked something. Why do I think this?

RAI, the mechanics of the feat impose that penalty, AFAIK, to prevent a player from having too many powerful minions altering the action economy. Add to that, the in-world (or "fluff", as some people call it) argument is that a more powerful cohort doesn't want to share your attention with others. Either way, that supports applying the same penalty that a familiar, special mount, or animal companion does.

My summoner with the Leadership feat counts the eidolon against his score.

Rationale behind this is simple, the core rule book was written before the summoner ever existed. Maybe some day they'll get around to including a mention in the text, but it is clear that an eidolon should be treated as a "familiar, special mount, or animal companion".

That's my own stance as well, I'm just curious to see if I simply overlooked something (either to justify not applying the penalty, or that clarifies it should impart the penalty).

Or, barring that, to bring it up as one of those minor things they can note down for future errata/FAQ.

Silver Crusade

The developers have stated that they won't make references to later material in the Core Rule Book. An example given was that they won't mention oracles using charisma as a base for some spells that reference wisdom.

So, that material in the leadership feat in the CRB won't mention an Eidolon.

I believe it should work similarly to a familiar, special mount and animal companion in reducing the leadership score.

If it were to be an errata, I'd expect it to be a line in the description of the summoner's eidolon ability stating something like:

"If a summoner takes the Leadership Feat, his eidolon imposes a -2 penalty to his leadership score, the same as a familiar/special mount/animal companion."

Not a change to the CRB.
