Hi!
I am currently planning my new character and I decided to build myself something I never really made before, a Ranger(Trapper)/Shadow Dancer/Horizon walker. So I started planning away when I noticed that at level 12 I will gain a second time the ability "Evasion". What happen in these cases? You could technically build a character that get evasion 4 times! "Monk 2/Rogue 2/Ranger 9/Shadow dancer 3" What is the guideline for character that gain multiple times the exact same abilities, most cases are well detailed in the rulebooks such as for the paladin channel energy not stacking with the cleric's.
So what happen to my level 9 trapper ranger once he gain 3 levels of shadow dancer? does eh get improved evasion? does he get a bonus feat instead? does nothing happen?
Thank you for your feedback in advance!

Some version of evasion specify that if you have it from another class you instead gain improved evasion, but its not a general rule.
Wait...I think I'm thinking of Uncanny Dodge instead of Evasion.
Yep, I always have to double-check that one, too. Uncanny Dodge is the one that stacks. Evasion sadly does not.

Implication: if you mix classes such that you would receive Evasion twice, then you should select a class archetype that trades out the Evasion for another feature.
Most excellent idea!
I will make my ranger a Trapper/Guide archetype combo! Take my 4 shadow dancers levels a bit earlier to gain my evasion at level 8 and then continue my merry way as a trapper/guide ranger.

Evasion has no level dependent functions to stack. And giving improved evasion for getting it twice really shafts the folks who stick with a single class long enough to get it honestly.

Oh no doubt. I understand why it doesn't. I just always have to double check because brains and stuff.
Words are hard.
