This is the Kingmaker Campaign, yet it is filled with many deviations from the boxed set. The "Campaign Information" page is meant as a quick resource to help sum up the thousands of posts quickly.

To All...

Looking for deputies? Let me know your plan then...

So far, only Ariarh is buying goods... but the healing stuff, by fiat of the contract, mean that the money she spent on any healing potion is divided 5 ways for all of you. This includes Holy Water, too...

When are you leaving, where are you going? What are you doing? What are you taking?

Only Ariarh has provided me with a list of gear, and I have answered her. Anyone else interested in bringing anything? Anyone else want to head out and explore?

By the way...

I've seen no posting from Ka'etil or Sir Bronwyn (Bronwyn, do you have a Surname... or a family name... or just "Bronwyn"? If there's more to it then that (like, you have given up your name, that's cool too... just let me know in an email). You guys are getting XP for posting... generally... though not today... but, as they say, the day ain't over...

"I would also like to take some of the honey and dried foods from the winter store. I have no idea if we will be able to hunt for food, or how often, on this journey. And, I would rather not go hungry or starve in this latest quest. It does no one any good if we grow weak and fail from lack of food." Ariarh looks around at her companions.

Ka'etil wants to get a set of show-shoes, if there are any or become available. He also will buy two potions of CLW, and one Cure Moderate.

After Patty heals the party, Ka'etil uses prestidigitation to clean the gore off of himself.

To whomever informs him that he is to receive a share of gold, he says, still tired and subdued from the hard fought battle this morning, "Thank you kindly for your generosity. I shall earn my keep, in our future. So, what is it that the next move is?"

He is clearly subdued, and often glancing at Brett and Bronwyn. He maintains his smile from the previous day, but there is clearly something weighing upon his mind as he moves through camp, getting himself food, and checking his supplies.

"Nay lad, ye signed a contract, and if ye think either I or Oleg be re-crunching the books OR numbers fer some high-falutin desire to be fair and just, think again. Ye're on the books the minute ye saved our lifes killing that thing... so ye got the sixteen hundred gold, and thats' flat. Meanwhile... they only got so many healing potions to go out, and Ry got the bid on them... don't worry; coin for healing potions comes out the top o' company money... so when we figure out all the money fer healing pots and holy water, we divide it right and true twixt us all... Oh, and read o'er the bloody contract again, IF you please... to get the details... And fer all ye to know: there AIN'T no snowshoes... and if there were... what of it? Horses can't use them!"

Such a meal is worth 3 sp a day... You can carry them, but they do weigh stuff... I recommend putting them on your horse. Same with firewood, that you don't need to buy, they can just give you bundles.

Such a meal is better then trail rations, but it weighs 3 lbs a day... 1 lbd for each meal. It does keep you going in cold weather though...

Ariarh spies Ka'etil wandering, his attention seemingly occupied, through the courtyard at Oleg's. She waves at him and calls out his name.

"Ka'etil!" Ry observes Ka'etil busily at work and is hesitant to disturb or distract him but eager to hear news of the hunt. "How did the hunt go? How are your preparations going?"

Ariarh decides to purchase 7 days worth of the "common meal" and carry them in her saddlebags. They would certainly need a new stockpile of firewood and they would have to bring along at least another (spare) horse to transport the wood and other supplies.

This conversation occurred before Ariarh saw Ka'etil moving through the courtyard and haled him down.

After Ariarh had asked her questions to Dasha in regard to the nursery rhyme and bad dreams, Ariarh broaches the idea of the girl coming along on their exploration.

"Dasha, soon our party rides again, this time heading south east. I know you are finally finding your feet here at Oleg's, and, the various travellers as well as the Commander of the garrison speak highly of your healing services. Alas, my companions and I have concerns for your wellbeing and the safety of all those now sheltered at this trading post. We have acquired information that you may be the target of other dark agents such as the masked one who tried to spirit you away last month. This leaves us with a dilemma. What do we do with you? Do we leave you here at Oleg's where your skills are useful, possibly putting innocent lives at risk from bandits or other evil agents who ride here looking for you, or, do we bring you with us, as willing companion, working at keeping you alive and concealed from those would see you harmed? This, lass, is up to you. Only you can decide freely and willingly. I do not mean to unduly influence you, but I believe you deserve to hear the situation as straightforwardly as possible. What say you, will you join us or remain at Oleg's with the others?"

Hello, guys. I will be attending a funeral tomorrow, so my postings will be sporadic and up on the board late my afternoon. I will try and catch up best as I can when I return. Thanks.

to Brett:

"I'm not saying that I want less, just that there is coin that i didn't have last night when I arrived in my name this morning. I don't take that for granted, so I thank you. I try to be courteous." He warms at Brett's manner, the halfling's words deepening the smile on his face. "Such a wonder, this magical healing. I wouldn't have been up on my feet again for weeks on my own, after a fight like that. There's not even any new scars!"

Not noticing Ariarh until she speaks, Ka'etil startles at the sound of her voice, "Oh, Ariarh, I apologize, I did not notice you approach." He smiles again, and continues checking his packs, ensuring everything is well secured to his horse. "Well, the hunt was a success, of sorts... we returned with two elk, and are all alive, so it was successful. There was just an added bonus of having a great two headed giant accost us. An Ettin, if you know anything about the creatures. Beastie nearly killed us all," he leans in close, whispering "you saw me riding in here, if you can call that riding. It was more sitting as... Horse kept me balanced." He gives the warhorse a soft pat, and continues his work.

Stepping back from his bags, Ka'etil takes a look at his work. "I just had to ensure I had everything that i had yesterday still prepared, so I am jsut about ready. thank you kindly." Ka'etil says warmly.

"An ettin, really? How far from Oleg's did you all travel?" Seriously looking over Ka'etil at his mention of nearly being killed by the beast, Ariarh inquires with apprehension, "Do you require healing, do the other two?" Ry leans closer to 'Horse' and gives him an approving pat, whispering "Well done, boy." The warhorse had not let his new owner down.

"You really ought to give this valiant creature a proper name." Ry gives Ka'etil a gentle smile.

Alaric will go and trade some of his goods and gear to the alchemist that came with the other group. Here is what he is getting:

2. He would like to buy 2 potions of Endure Elements and 2 potions of protection from evil if she has them

Kae appreciates Ariarh concern, and does not want to alarm her, but does not want to be deceptive. "Worry not, we were, all three of us, quite severely injured, but the Lady Patty called upon her holy power to heal us all, so I am completely fine now. Although I felt as if I was sitting upon Death's doorstep, my body contemplating knocking. You and Alaric were attending to your business, and there was no need to disturb you. We did ride out quite a way, but it seemed that the creature was likely migrating south for the winter. Brett said that there was nothing near-by that would have served a as lair, that you could see. It was his prey that we ended up dragging home behind us."

He then turns to his steed. "You do bring up a good point, Ry. I don't know this fine creature's name, but perhaps he deserves a new one, for his new life." He pats the animal's muzzle and whispers little nothing words of thanks, praising him for being such a good horse.

"He was used by bandits as a pack-horse, but I could tell that he was smart, and tough, so i took him along when I... found him."

Ka'etil pauses a moment, then glances around the camp, and takes a breath. "I mentioned before, that I have a measure of magical power, but is is likely not the same as our friend Alaric's. Now is not the proper place to discuss it, for it can me somewhat alarming, and I would like to, when there are fewer matters to attend to, make you aware of it."

Then with sudden levity "But right now, there are more pressing matters to attend to, like naming this fellow. I sadly have no talent for finding fitting names, perhaps you would be able to lend assistance in that particular endeavor. He mostly certainly deserves a better name than "Horse" but that's the limit to my creativity..."

Conversation with Alaric:

Ka'etil approaches Alaric at some point before setting out. "Alaric, how goes your preparations for today?" he calls out walking over.

He'll exchange pleasantries, "How are you today?" "What do you think today's travels hold for us?" "The weather looks [comment based on weather base on survival check to predict weather: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9] . Anyway..."
...he quickly comes to his intended purpose. "Ariarh mentioned that aside from being quite an idealist, you are a sorcerer? I actually would like a chance to speak to someone who understands this sort of innate magic better than I. Not now, lest we draw Brett's ire 'for'..." he looks this way and that for the halfling to see if he's in earshot, "dilly-dallying and jawin' away when there work to be done, and other folk be gettin' to actually doin' it. Best get it done, and get out on our way!" Ka'etil says, trying to mimic Brett's voice. "He seems to have a lot of scolding, for such a small package. Makes me feel like a little child back home, looking up at a towering tree of a stern elf after misbehaving." He grins at Alaric, fondly thinking of Brett's straight forward manner.

Reply to Kae:
Hello Kae, my preparations are going fine thank you for asking. What about your own? When Kae mentions sorcery Alaric perks up and gets excited, Yes my magics began manifesting at around my 15th summer. You may ask me anything you like and know that I will keep anything you wish in confidence. As for Brett, HA! Yeah he can get a bit bossy at times. That's a pretty good impression, though you'd need to sit down to get the right effect. Alaric nudges Kae good naturedly at the joke at Brett's expense.

Male Half-Elf Invulnerable Rager 2/Crossblooded Envenomed+Draconic Sorcerer 1/ Trapper Ranger 1/Rage-Vivisectionist 2/Dragon Disciple 1

Reply to Alaric:

Your confidence is greatly appreciated, he says to Alaric, chuckling. And if I sat down for effect, that would be two points against me!

Ka'etil thinks a moment, then overcome with curiosity, to talk with someone who may have experienced something similar to his awakening, he looks about again, asking, When that happened, did you know what was going on? It came as such a shock to me, it was rather frightening, to be honest. What was it like for you?

Reply to Kae:
As a matter of fact it saved my life. I was in the mountains around Horn's Reach escaping the presence of my father and brother alike. I wasn't paying close enough attention and came across a mother bear and her cubs. She charged to protect her cubs and I am sorry to say I froze with fear. Right as she was about to pounce on me I held up my hands to ward her off and I felt a rush of power through my limbs. A roar of colored lights came pouring from my palm and washed over the bear, stopping her in her tracks. It didn't do much more than stun her for a moment but it gave me the time I needed to escape. That night I fell into a fever, but it broke the next day. I had a new found awareness in my head of the ebb and flow of magical energies and instead of being afraid, I was elated as I felt I now had the power to stand up to my father and brother should it come to it. Through practice I was able to hone my skills but it was not easy. The quieting of your mind I found was the key to controlling it but that is much more difficult than it sounds. It seems we mortals are wired to be constantly thinking. Alaric looks at Kae for a second before asking So what happened with you? I do not sense the presence of fey magics within you but something else just as primal and powerful.

Male Half-Elf Invulnerable Rager 2/Crossblooded Envenomed+Draconic Sorcerer 1/ Trapper Ranger 1/Rage-Vivisectionist 2/Dragon Disciple 1

Reply to Alaric:

My awakening was not nearly so... well... It was different. My magic manifested totally on it's own. I heard sounds, voices, my thoughts coming from all around me. Objects would move, sparks fly about, it was strange, frightening. I'm sure you've noticed, I don't control it like you most of the time. I thought I had gone mad. I was alone, and frightened; I don't really know how long it was, but eventually... well, I realized what was going on. My body had changed, grown... stronger. I learned to see magic around me, use it to protect myself, but...

Ka'etil looks around seriously, and his expression changes. He becomes more serious, and moves closer to Alaric. It changes me. IT's a strange transformation, I think it's because of the dark and poison blood of my father in my veins. Its hard to control the actual transformation, and it is... alarming. I'm sure you'll see it soon enough, Brett and Bronwyn witnessed it as we fought a great 2-headed giant on our hunt. But you believe not in ancestry, so I trust you will not hold it against me, and judge me by my action instead. He is clearly uncomfortable with the this topic, and it is hard for him to reveal that there is something so dark within him that he cannot understand, but is pushing himself to reveal this to his companion.

Reply to Kae:
Alaric will reach way up and put his hand on Kae's shoulder before saying, A person is never defined by their parents. We are defined by the choices we make in life. Your parents will have had influence over you but they do not define you. This magic that is in your blood is not good or evil, any more than mine is good or evil, it simply is. You can decide whether it is going to control you...or you it. I can help you with quieting your mind and trying for control but it will always ultimately come down you. Are you the sort of person who will succumb or will you accept the challenge and rise above. I can tell you which is the person that I see but my opinion does not matter if you do not believe in yourself. Alaric pauses for a moment before continuing, You have more strength than you realize, my friend and I do not mean this crude matter. Alaric says as he pokes the big half-elf in the bicep.

This land is a place of new beginnings. Allow the past to remain there, in the past, and your future can be brighter than you realize. Turn this thing you fear into a force for good. Then when you stand in front of Pharasma's judgement, as we all must, you can do so with your head held high and your back straight. Alaric keeps his eyes on Kae for a moment more to make sure his words have soaked in before saying with a grin, Now...let's be off before Brett chops us into pieces for his stew.

Male Half-Elf Invulnerable Rager 2/Crossblooded Envenomed+Draconic Sorcerer 1/ Trapper Ranger 1/Rage-Vivisectionist 2/Dragon Disciple 1

A bright grin cracks Ka'etil's solemn face at Alaric's words. Well met, sir. You people continue to amaze me, here. Well then, i like my hide NOT tanned, so I best get to work as not to delay our departure.

Ka'etil saunters off, waving behind his back to Alaric as he strolls away, swaying, and smiling off toward the the stables to make sure his nameless horse is packed and he'll be ready to go out to explore.

Watching Kae walk away Alaric is reminded of his experiences, fumbling through the magics and power at his command. I wish you well Ka'etil. Alaric then goes back to watching his invisible servant pack Arvakur for him, a small smile playing upon his lips.

DC Result

16 This two-headed giant is an ettin, a vicious and unpredictable nocturnal hunter. This result reveals all giant traits.

Ettins, or two-headed giants, are vicious and unpredictable hunters that stalk the night. Their two heads provide them with unparalleled powers of perception, making them excellent guards.

Ettins superficially resemble hill or stone giants, although their tusked facial features betray orc blood in their lineage. They have pinkish-brown skin, but ettins never bathe if they can help it, which usually leaves them so grimy and dirty their skin resembles thick, gray hide. Adult ettins are about 13 feet tall and weigh 5,200 pounds. They live about 75 years.

Ettins have no language of their own but speak a pidgin of Giant, Goblin, and Orc.

Though ettins aren't very intelligent, they are cunning fighters. They prefer to ambush their victims rather than charge into a fight, but once the battle has started, an ettin fights furiously until all enemies are dead.

Ettins lead solitary lives, establishing lairs in secluded rocky caves and hollows, often surrounded by pits and trenches. Ettins sometimes keep cave bears as pets and guardians for their lairs.

Mated couples usually come together to breed for only a short time before going off on their own again. Young ettins mature quickly, reaching adult size within a year, when they are kicked out to fend for themselves.

Dasha listens quietly to your words… but at the suggestion of leaving the compound and traveling into the wild; her eyes widen and she turns and runs off, leaving you very much confused and perplexed.

You sigh and go about your business, feeling sorry for the girl and her condition. However, after about a half an hour you see that Dasha has returned, looking a little angry and distressed. She speaks to you in her lilting Ustalavian accent…

”I do not want to leave this place… I think that is a very bad idea… I think it is safe here; there is food, and warmth, and tall walls, and good people… but... but anyway...Ioana, she told me that I should listen you to you, because you are wise and powerful, as all of your friends. She said “Oleg has strong walls and a gate… but even a castle can be burned to the ground by a strong enemy… Better to be on the opens plains then inside a strong fortress that can be assailed.” I hate her… she always talks down to me… she thinks she’s so damn special!”

Dasha breaks off for a moment, looking annoyed, and clearly petulant.

”I will make bargain with you, then… if only to stop Ioana’s foolish blathering… What? No; it is foolish… Well I do not care what you think, and neither does anyone else! And you know that sometimes you’re wrong too, so just be quiet… no… you be quiet! Argh! Fine! I will ask, then,” she finishes, somewhat out of sorts, as if she were having a private conversation with someone, though you see no one.

”I willl come with you if you can get Drake to come with us, too. If not, I do not want leave, because Drake is very nice, and even Ioana thinks he is handsome, and… and anyway… I mean to say… I want… If you can get Drake to come, I will come with you,” she says somewhat sheepishly, looking at your feet.

Sir Bronwyn will try to find someone to skin the elk and treat its meat for consumption. After that he will try to reach the others, offering to meet them at the stables right before leaving. In the meantime he'll take care of his horse, trying to clean its wounds and aid in his recovery.

When they're all together, he opens:

"You all have offered me" - he then takes a quick look to Ka'etil - "nothing less than the truth before, and have given me your trust incondicionaly. I don't mean to dishonor that selfless act by keeping secrets or lying by omission, and for that I offer you my trust."

He takes a second scrubbing his horse, to let his words sink in the minds of everyone.

"Me and my folk have once served under a man of grand honor named sir Ivan Petrov, who in turn was a landed knight under the noble House Medvyed. This great man passed away and his son took his place, but he was of a very different making. He made a habit of neglecting his duties and abusing his powers, slowly throwing down his family's name in the gutters. Those that you see here are the ones who suffered the brunt of his abuse but still managed to survive. Others were not so lucky. We all carry our scars and our burdens, and we seek only a place where to forget the first and lay down the latter."

Then he turns specially to Alaric.

"I have heard your ideas, and those are mighty dreams indeed. But as you yourself have said, those are also naive and, as is the nature of dreams, difficult to achieve. That aside, I know full well what it's like to stake your will and life behind an impossible and difficult ideal, for honor and duty are twin sisters who reside nowhere but our own hearts and minds. I'll fully pledge those to you and your cause, if you would only promise my people such abuses as those we faced before won't be tolerated, but severely and swiftly punished. And that is, of course, if you would have me as your sworn sword."

Alaric looks on in shock when Sir Bronwyn says he will swear himself to him. Recovering himself quickly, he says Sir Bronwyn, you honor me beyond measure. I can promise you that the ideals that I have espoused to you and my dreams for this kingdom are real. Those abuses that you speak of are the exact things of which I am seeking to correct in this land. I need men like you and Ka'etil, and women like Ariarh, to make this land great. I need your experiences as a knight, but more importantly as a man. I would be honored to have you stand beside me Sir Bronwyn. What boon may I give you in honor of your pledge of service?

"So what am I? Burnt toast?" Brett pipes up, hearing Alaric's words on great men and women... and not even one kind word to a noble friend, who stuck up for him against the dwarf, and others...

"Well, anyhow's... are ye planning on taking his sword, or ain't ye?" he says, watching Alaric, biting into an apple.

Male Human Cavalier 3

Bronwyn smiles weakly at the mention of "experiences as a knight".

"I feel like I must warn you, mister Alaric, that I'm as lowborn as they come and I sincerely feel my knightly title is devoid of meaning and strenght, for it was offered by a dishonorable man in a most disgusting way. My father was simply the lord's horsekeeper and if today I wear a knight's regalia it is only due to his valiant acts in battle. I myself don't even have a surname, and though by proper Brevoy law I carry a sir before my name, I can't in proper conscience claim a knight title before I feel I've earned it."

"The only boon that I ask is that my people are taken care off and protected, and I'm offered a chance to earn my spurs in proper knightly fashion. If that's too much to ask I'll understand, but I fear I can't accept lesser terms."

Alaric makes a mental note to apologize to Brett for the slight before taking Bronwyn's sword. Your birth, no matter how low you deem it to be matters nothing now. I do not judge people upon an accident of birth but upon the quality of their heart and actions. As for your people, they are fully under my protection and no harm will come to them if it is in my power, and yours, to prevent. That being said...kneel Sir Bronwyn. Do you swear before the gods that you will defend the people of this realm to your utmost ability and for as long as you draw breath upon this world? Do you promise to uphold the ideals of chivalry and honor and put others before yourself? Do you pledge to be faithful to the causes and duties put forth to you by your lord and sovereign? Do you swear to always be honest with me and tell me what you think no matter what? Do you so swear?

Brett removes his hat at the ceremony, leaving his head bare. Then, he draws his blade, and presses the hilt over his chest against his heart, the blade sticking straight up in a salute for the ceremony.

Brevity is replaced with respect at this point, and waits to see how it plays out.

Bronwyn takes a long stare at Alaric, trying to judge his intentions. He doesn't mean to just receive in hand what he feel he needs to work hard to reach.

Meeting his eyes, they seem to reach an unspoken statement. Bronwyn kneels in the hay, a faint smile spreading across his lips.

Funny how fate works. In the hay of a stable I was born, because of it I became a man, and now, kneeling in it, I'm restored.

The words come fast and easily, as if they never left.

"By Our Lord in Iron, I swear my sword will face your enemies. By the Golden Scales of Abadar, I swear to uphold justice and honor.

After a split second of silence, he adds, improvising:

"By the Old Deadeye, I swear my watch to be unending and my protection to be unfailing."

Brett nods at the words, and lifts his hilts in salute at the last rereference...

Alaric smiles back at Bronwyn before saying Then since I am not yet king and have no legal authority to give you a knighthood...I will promise you this. You do not have a surname as you said. My surname is a derogatory term given to bastards born in Brevoy. If you would have it... He looks at you intently and seriously, I would offer you my name. Perhaps together we can turn something that was deemed dishonorable into a shining beacon that those of low birth and humble beginnings can turn to for inspiration. Will you honor me by taking the name of Winter? As far as your knighthood, though you are a knight in your heart where it matters, I wish you to prepare yourself to create a knightly order within these lands to protect them. Search your heart for the tenets that such an order would adhere to. When you have those tenets you will be ready to reclaim your rightful title and perhaps I may be worthy to bestow it upon you.

"I think it would be appropriate and wise for Drake to come with this us on this exploration. I will go seek him out and ask presently."

Ariarh moves through the courtyard and to the stables when she spies Drake.

"Robert, may I have a word with you, please? As you are aware, we are soon to ride southeast. I have spoken with Dasha about joining us and I would like to invite you to join our party, if you are amiable. I do believe a man with your skill would be an asset to our party. What say you?"

The faint smile grows to become a full-fledged smile of surprise.

"It is a great gift to share one's name, for it denotes unity of purpose if not blood." Bronwyn rises from the ground, resting one hand into Alaric's left shoulder. "I humbly accept your offer, Alaric Winter, my brother." - finishing the sentence, he moves to embrace the man.

Ka'etil watches the ceremony curiously. When the newly re-knighted Knight releases hes new brother, he slides over to the man, and claps him on the back, speaking to him.

"Well, Winter, we've all faced our own fair share of the harsh realities of this world, and were looking for some where to be free of that. Yet the world is a harsh place, and so, we cut out our own piece of the world, and making it into somewhere better. I'm excited to see whether or not we idealists are just a bunch of fools."

He leans in toward Bronwyn, smiling, "And even if we are, I'm glad to count you among us."

HE chuckles quietly to himself thinking, What a band are we! An illegitimate bastard lord, and his brother knight, a mad demon, and an angel walking on the ground, and , of course, the BIGGEST little man I've ever seen!

Alaric smiles brightly and returns the embrace gladly. I think I may have a name for your order as well, brother. The Winter Knights. What do you think?

Alaric is positively beaming, at the wonderful turn of events. To have someone like this call him brother after the horror of his familial upbringing is like a cool breeze on the hot summer's day of his heart. Now, he is ready to face the coming winter, his brother and friends beside him.

and with that I'm off to bed. I have to say that was one of the most poignant and best rp experiences i've had in a good long while. Thanks Bronwyn!

Male Human Cavalier 3

"I think you may enjoy your own company too much, brother." Bronwyn Winter says, smiling with mirth. "Let's go, folks, there are horses still to be saddled and threats still to be fought."

He easily saddles and readies the horses, the routine almost instinctive to him even after all those years.

"I am relieved to hear that Mistress Patty provided healing and the three of you are hale once more. It sounds like it was a close call with the Ettin and I do not like that at all." There is still concern etched on Ariarh's face, though not as heavy as before.

"And whatever it is that you would like to tell me, I will listen. Whether it happens as we're riding or camped." Ry gives Kae'til a reassuring smile hoping to ease whatever concern or trepidation he is currently feeling.

"Now, let's take a good look at you, Horse." Ariarh moves around the creature, studying him and finally settling before him so they can look each other, face to face, eye to eye.

"Hmm, we require a strong name for thee. Konur?... Gunnar?... Calder?... Cahal?... Mearas?..Do anyone of these sound good to you?" Ry asks Horse and waits for a reaction if any is forthcoming.

Throwing up a sense motive check to see if Ry can sense which name Horse likes after she says each name in turn. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 sigh. lol

** spoiler omitted **...

The horse looks at you, then munches on the remains of an apple which Brett kindly offers it.

Alaric's waking dream, after testing himself against the ring...:
As the evening draws to a close, you feel your eyes drooping, as though sleep is overcoming you, and you are trying to stave it off. You shouldn’t be so tired, but you cannot help it.

Even so… your eyes slide close; then they open suddenly!

You see large ship with a white sail sailing down a wide river. The far side of the river is covered with fresh green grass, and the near side of the river houses a large and beautiful looking temple. Surrounding the temple is a large wall… thick and tall… and it surrounds the temple and various small buildings and stretches down to the river itself.

There, on the river, is a large stone quay and great banners; scarlet, with silver dragons on them. The ship itself is sliding to the quay, and you see a person standing there, ready to greet the vessel. There are others on the shore of the river, with flags and banners, waving at the ship; and you can see the ship itself has all of its shields on full display, showing its colors and heraldry in honor of the occasion…

The ship slides into the stone arch that covers the bay, and a long gangplank is thrown down; knights stand ready at the rail, and are saluting from the decks. The people cheer at the presence of the knights, and man on the quay raises his hand, and a hush goes over the crowd. All are ready to hear this one speak; to know what great words he has to say…

A sudden clap of thunder, and a flash, and your mind reels, as though you are startled by a bright light or sudden darkness. When you are able to clear your senses you see the quay, and the temple, and the wall… all of it gone… nothing but a few ruined stones; the walls thrown down, the temple mere marble bones in tall grasses and of the quay, nothing but broken rocks jutting from the water like foul teeth.

Gone… all is gone…

You think the last with sorrow; morning for this sad loss, though you know not why. But there, in the broken bones of the remaining ruins, moving through them, is a figure cloaked and hooded… dressed in black, and veiled in horror. It is a man… yet not a man… and it moves forward with a heavy stride and a long sword, made of iron, with a cruel bent. You see no face under the hood, only shadows… And it stands on the very spot where the temple rested… pointing its blade at you!

Verily I come for you! or is it You shall not take it!

You do not know… only that the horror lingers, and yet, beneath it all… is something else…. Something greater… perhaps? You do not know, you cannot say… yet you sense it… you feel it in your very soul.

A darkness, to be met and challenged, and overthrown if you are able.

But then? Only time will tell…

Drake listens to this tale for some time, nodding his head at Ariarh’s words on occasion. When he finishes he turns his gaze to the southlands, examining the horizon, pondering the word.

”If this is the path that is best, I will come with you, too… If only to help the girl from dangers. But it is not a path I would choose… Still, I will trust your wisdom on this matter, lady. Give me a moment to bid master Oleg farewell and gather my kit, I shall come… I may even be able to offer some aid in the southlands, though I have not traveled to the eastern camps. What direction do you journey toward?”

He lets Ariarh tell him of her party’s plans, then moves to get his gear. He informs you that he will be back soon. You hear some commotion inside, and clearly Dasha is excited about this news. She comes outside in a rush, then pauses in front of you, wringing her hands, nervous how to proceed. Then, she opens her arms and hugs you once, tightly, then runs off, pleased and embarrassed by her emotions.

glad to have ya back Ry!

a Horse called... :

Kae places a hand on Ariarh's shoulder and gives her a smile to ease her worry, which widens as she offers a welcome ear. he then turns his attentions to the names. They mean nothing in particular to him, and he does not really know what to make of any of them...
"Is there some meaning behind them that makes these names strong, or do they have a strong sound to the word?"

Ariarh has already checked her horse, Tal, over and deftly secured her saddle, saddlebags, backpack, bedroll, waterskin, rope and her smaller gear. Her scimitar, dagger and sling are in place at her hips. The small pouch housing the magical berries is attached to her belt as is the pouch containing the small stones she collected for her sling. Her satchel is filled with the new potions (wrapped), holy water (wrapped) and healer's kit. Ariarh is dressed in her new cold weather outfit (her spare clothes are stowed in her backpack, along with her food (and Dior's treats), tea, mug, cooking kit.) Ariarh has her wooden armor on.

Turning to her male companions, Ariarh asks, "Did any of you get the firewood? I would rather we kept warm as we camped on cold nights." Ry's eyes twinkle with mirth and she is trying not to laugh.

She stands waiting for her companions to confirm the firewood and as she waits, she begins re-braiding her hair into a long, straight plait down the length of her back.

Dior is sitting perched, atop Tal, like a little king.

Remembering Drake and Dasha would be joining them, she advises her companions.

"Just a little while ago, I spoke with Dasha, and she was in two minds about joining us as we ride. She advised me that she would come along only if Drake were to accompany us, as well. So, on behalf of our party, I approached him, and he agreed. So, my friends, we have two more joining us this day. I hope everyone is agreeable to this." Ry looks at the other faces, hoping she hadn't overstepped her authority.

In due time...

It is now noon, and the party is packed with what gear they are choosing. Brett has taken with him two of your horses; with large bundles of firewood on one of the horses, and spare sacks of food and grain on another for you. Besides this are two large four person tents that Brett has packed; one on each of the horses.

Sir Bronwyn's people have been taken inside, and they have been made comfortable in Oleg's compound.

The cost of their food and "rent" is deducted from Sir Bronwyn's expenses at this time. It will cost you 5 GP a week for all five people; this includes room and board.

The rest of you have the gear you have purchased. However, even as this is being done and horses are sadled, you see that the large tents with the banners which belongs to the Ustalavians hase been broken down, and is being collapsed into their wagon. The wagon is being hauled into Oleg's, and you notice the young Sir Dashan handing Oleg a sum of coin.

The other wagons of the families have been moved to the easterly side of Oleg's, and are nestled more securely between Oleg's and the camp for the gaurds - which is now west of the wagon homes. The horses to the covered wagons have been taken around to the extra stable that was built on the side of Oleg's compound, and are being kept there, as there is lots of room inside.

Even as all this is done you see two riders approach - both on black horses. You are surprised, for you did not recognize them at first - one of them is wearing heavy black plate mail with silver edging, and the other is wearing long robes with silver hems. It is none other then Sir Dashan and Tyrene Aliento. They two are carrying gear for travel, and seem ready to go.

"Greetings, brethern; for I deem it to be truth in spirit if not blood. It is written; All are friends who are enemy of the One Enemy. Therefore, I count thee as friends, and as thou art pledged to protecting this child, so too it is mete that we shall also offer our services. Dark forces seek her, and they would take for foul purposes. Though we are sent as emissaries in this land who were but made to gather news alone, our higher purpose is now made clear to we two. We must thwart the servants of evil, and as they seek the girl, they may divine her location through sorcery or with the aid of their dark gods. Fie on this! Therefore, we two shall come with thee and aid thee in this quest," SIr Dashan says with a low and courteous bow.

Tyrene merely smiles flatly from his position on his horse, watching you; his eyes gleaming under the shadow of his hood.

The other have gathered to watch you go off; and even Commander Tinker has ordered an honor gaurd to see you to the borders of Oleg's land safe and sound. The children are cheering at you, and the adults are waving and smiling, and the dwarf lifts a tankard of ale in salute of your efforts, and, with waves of your own, you gather your horses and gear, and begin the journey south....

"Pardon, all..." Tyrene says with a silky voice "But, if thy may permit a question? Once we leave the jurisdiction of the good master Oleg, where shall we journey too? Where is the destination that thy seek?"

Brett rubs his chin, watching Tyrene...

"I think he be meaning; now that we're finally on the road, where do we go next? That is to say - where be going specific, so we can tack horses and that way?"

The time is noon; but the snow has stopped. You will be crossing the borders of Oleg's southern land at roughly 4:00 PM. You have roughly two hours of daylight, then... Once you leave Oleg's land, where are you planning on going next?
