I saw this the other day, and it wasn't bad. Definitely popcorn fare.

Good stuff:
1. Dinobots
2. The action was easier to follow:
(Bay must have listened a bit, he slows down big action sequences sort of bullet cam style)
3. Mark Wahlberg
4. Some gray in the plot with the human motivations.
5. Did I mention Dinobots?

Bad Stuff:
1. Too long, and drug at points.
2. Bay doesn't understand basic physics. (If a car that is in the air hits you in the head at high speed, that kills you. Seriously.)
3. Ok, I get that Nicola Peltz is an adult (19). BUT, what is with Michael Bay casting young looking actresses as high school kids under 18 and then spending half the movie with close up shots of the their butts in mini shorts. Every other scene even has Mark pointing out her character is 17. I mean as a guy that likes girls with nice butts, that STILL creeps me out.
4. Transformium?

Not to mention the 5 minute long scene where her boyfriend explains why it's ok for him to be dating an underaged girl (he is 20). He even shows off his "I can legally date this teenager" card.

A LAMINATED CARD...

Seriously there is no way that guy isn't some day ending up on a sex offender list...

While it is weird, I can kind of see his thought process for making that card... after all, in most cases it's illegal, but they've been dating since they were high school sweethearts, which makes it legal in that very specific circumstance. I could see situations where someone goes to make a fuss and it's simpler to just show them the card with the exact wording of the legislation etc. to head off the trouble.

I had a similar problem with a previous girlfriend, though slightly different in that she was actually older than me, but was still in school (she started late) while I had graduated the year before (I started school early) and was working. The issue wasn't age, but that I worked as a trainee for ACT Schools IT Support, and she was a student at an ACT school. Technically a conflict of interest and a breach of policy, but it was accepted because we were around the same age (I was 18, she was 19), and although technically I could access school records etc, the odds of it happening were incredibly low, but damn I got grilled by management for it at times. Other guys I worked with had the same issue, worst thing that ever happened though was that we had to remove one of the guys from one of the schools he supported because he was spending all his scheduled time there hanging out with his girlfriend instead of working.

Bah. Missed the edit time frame. I should clarify that the other guys I was working with were also around the same age as their girlfriends. Many of them actually left school early to take up these trainee positions, and in that situation I think it's entirely expected that some of them are going to have girlfriends still at school no matter what the policies say.

Oh, no, totally, if these were real people, it totally makes sense.

Its the idea that someone wrote this that makes it weird for me.

You know what it actually feels like, now that I think about it? It feels like they made the daughter 17 to make all these underaged jokes, but then test audiences told them it was weird and creepy.

So then instead of changing her age to 18 and cutting out the jokes, they went back and added in a "here's my 'you can date a teenager card'" scene.

Yeah, Tinkergoth, I am not really opposed to the idea of a 17 year old and a 20 year old dating, so much as the weird vibe the direction the film's shots took.

It's like Bay wanted to sexualize her character, and specifically do it with a 17 year old. Her being 17 and still in high school really added nothing to the plot whatsoever. So why not make it the summer after she graduated and she is 18, and Wahlberg is just an overprotective dad? Why hit the viewer over the head over and over with her age between shots that were nearly up her shorts at times? Just weird.

And he's done this before, just less blatantly. Remember that Megan Fox was supposed to be the same age as Shia LeBeuf in the first Transformers. He was in high school, and there is an extended scene of her bending over Bumblebee in short-shorts. Again, she was an adult actor, and I find her attractive, but still...

One of the questions and answers made me do a spit take. That is some funny stuff.

Sovereign Court

Except that guy is full of inedibles. The plot is pretty easy to follow, so are the motives of all the important characters. It's not shakespeare, but it's good enough to spend the money for a movie ticket. Maybe don't buy concessions.

@Benchack and MeanDM: Fair enough. I certainly agree that the focus on it in the film felt weird, it really either needed just a brief "Nah, it's cool, laws on our side" and leave it at that, or just don't bring it up and let people assume she's 18.

@Hama: Agreed, I really enjoyed it, though I won't go see it again unless I get roped into taking the cousins. I suspect that the comments from that guy are really just meant to be played for laughs, much like the Everything Wrong With videos (though I find those irritating as well, because it usually feels like they're just going for the cheap and easy laughs).

Saw the movie this weekend and i give it a D+

Good things
Some special effects including better transformations
Kelsey Grammer-Decent villian. showing a good range as an actor
Prime/Bumblebee

Action wasnt as crazy and i could tell who the good guys were

Bad
Mark Wahlberg-Like him as an actor and as a fellow Bostonian. Cant pull off the super inventor/engineer role.

the 17 is the new 18 was disturbing

the lack of classic transformers. Hound isnt the Hound from the old tv show and im not sure if the other 2 good guys (not named Bubblebee/Optimus) were transformers from classic cartoon?

the plot-Still confused on so many things

Dinobots-Glad to see them but what were they?

Lore-Destroyed

Acting/script-was awful. From the bad guys comebacks to the father/daghter fights to the high wire tension

Sovereign Court

Drift and crosshairs. I think that drift is from the classic cartoon.

Liberty's Edge

Do they still have Bumble Bee talk through songs on the radio? I thought it was a good gimmick in the first movie. but it got old really quick when they kept doing it in the 2nd and 3ed movies.

They do indeed do that, but I found it less noticeable this time.

Also, just because this made me so happy:

I totally got a photo with Optimus Prime!

*Wipes tear away* Was such an emotional moment for me... Looked up to him since I was a wean, he taught me everything I need to know about friendship, loyalty, trust, honour, and being a huge alien robot that disguises itself as a vehicle.

Transformers prime endfilm bee gets his voice back after megatron guts him and dumps his corpse through a protoenergonthingy vortex.

I vaguely remember that special, magical day when I turned from 17 to 18...there were flying pink unicorns, skittles poured from the faucets, and Starbucks gave me free lattes all day long!

There was also this amazing feeling that it was suddenly OK, in every possible, logical, rational way it could be so, that I could date someone not merely a year or two older than me, but 10, 15, 20, 30 years older than me! On June 11th--totally, despicably, deplorably, reprehensibly, disgustingly, not OK for me to date, say, a 20 year old...but 24 hours later on June 12th? Of course it was OK...

Liberty's Edge

I've seen the movie three times now, and I love it. Some parts don't stand up to the 'oh, really' test, but it's a sci-fantasy movie with sentient alien robots that split their lives between humanoid bipedal forms and mechanical conveyances like semi trucks and Chevrolets--what do you expect?

If anyone has the chance to see it in 4DX, you should definitely go for it: water and smoke effects, the chairs move with camera overflights, rattles and shakes of fighting--when Ratchet gets stabbed, the seat back punches you in the kidney. It's worth the $18 ticket price.

Awesome transformation effects, great fight scenes, very cool cinematography, great sound, Optimus riding a T-Rex: the best of the series.
