Ring of protection question

Lets say my character met the enchanter but lost to it. How many instances in that encounter can I use the ring the protection?

There are three different part too that encounter so you can use the ring once for each encounter.

It can be used once per check or step of an encounter.

The encounter consists of the following steps:

Evade the card (optional).
Apply any effects that happen before the encounter, if needed.
Attempt the check.
Attempt the next check, if needed.
Apply any effects that happen after the encounter, if needed.
Resolve the encounter.

You can play 1 card of each type and use each power once during all those steps. And the cards don't remember that you used them already, so you can use them again on the next step as long as it is still in your hand.
