Advice Playing Lem

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Hi Guys,

I'm about to start a new two-man, lunch campaign with Lem. My co-worker is taking Valeros.

I'm sorta struggling on the fourth spell for the starting deck. Here's what I currently have in mind. Would love some feedback.

Weapon: Light Crossbow
Spells: Cure Light Wounds, Force Missile, Lightning Touch x2
Items: Amulet of Life, Thieves Tools
Allies: Crow, Sage x2
Blessings: BOG x5

I feel like having two Lightning Touch spells is a waste do to his exchange from the discard ability at the start of his turn.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions/play experience,

Ben

I'd stay with that. Honestly, you should pick up some better spells pretty quickly. Just make sure you pick weapon for fav. card type so you are guaranteed to have an attack card.

I'd maybe consider Sanctuary or Levitate over the second Lightning Touch. I tend to favor a bit of evasion/mobility every now and then.

Yeah - I just read that favorite weapon card tip in a different thread. Great, great suggestion.

Kalvit: I'm starting to think Cure x2, Force Missile, and Detect Magic might be the best spell combo.

Double Hmmmmmmm

I'd include Sanctuary. The ability to pin henchmen and villains is crucial given that both characters will likely be in the same location.

Given the ruling that you can't intentionally fail a recharge check, so he can't just cycle his Cure spell at will, you might want a second Cure. Detect Magic would be my next choice. Levitate is a waste with so few characters. But I agree that two attack spells should be enough.

When was it ruled that you had to attempt the recharge check? I thought Vic ruled that under recharge it said 'may' so it was optional?

Thanks,
Tim

We played Brigadoom at lunch today. That suggested deck worked like a dream. This is what I ultimately went with...

Weapon: Light Crossbow (as favored card)
Spells: Cure Light Wounds x2, Force Missile, Detect Magic
Items: Amulet of Life, Thieves Tools
Allies: Crow, Sage x2
Blessings: BOG x5

Because Lem almost always has a blessing in her 6-card hand (especially with two cure spells), that light crossbow does quite well. I only needed to use that attack spell once.

Highly recommend this starting deck and Valeros and Lem are a wicked tag team.

Thanks again for all the advice, guys.

Ben

Side Note: Tim - Mike S. confirmed you gotta roll the check otherwise, you would be using a house rule.

Yeah - I totally hear that. I was on the fence with picking between Sanctuary and Detect Magic. I just love that free explore. I might swap it out at some point. The two cures is darn awesome as you continuously get those BOGs back:)

Guess I will have to change my deck for Lem then...I was going off of Vic's ruling, but if Mike said it then I'm not really sure which is considered the official...lol...

Can someone post a link? I will try to find the post from Vic.

Thanks,
Tim

PS - Don't call Lem a her...I heard he gets upset!

Here is the thread with Vic's ruling

I think I found a thread that Mike S. was a part of and it sounds like he now agrees that it is optional (I think he posted contrary on BGG but later found he was answering the wrong question)

Haha - whoops. My bad on the gender foul, Lem.

High five...Lem? Lem - don't leave me hanging, buddy. Oh don't be like that. The next Ale is on me...Lem!

For me, I run with a group of 4 other guys so they can handle all the combat while I do the support.

Lem really shines in places with a lot of allies and blessings/spells with a low monster count. With his super high diplomacy he can recruit any ally. Its not uncommon to do 4-5 explorations in 1 turn.

When you do come across an occasional monster you can either blast them or pop a sanctuary. My friends like battling monsters so its great when i can hand it to them on a silver platter.

at the end of it all, pop a cure and you'll all your blessing and allies back to repeat next turn!

In smaller games its probably better to be a healer/attacker role.
