Intellectual's Clay Pipe was great, and I loved the beardforge

Seen at least two items that are virtual carbon copies of those mentioned in this thread!

Marathon Voter Season 6, Marathon Voter Season 7

I've seen a lot of repeats actually, stuff I swore got submitted last year, perhaps word-for-word.

Which is possible, since there is no rule against resubmitting an item you entered in prior years.

Actually, there is if you publicly submitted such an item for critique/feedback. That's because it breaks anonymity at that point if others (including the judges) could have seen it was your item. Just resubmitting something you never showed publicly might not be a problem...however, the judges often have long memories...and go looking for repeat situations if they think it's a resubmission, which doesn't necessarily make them view the designer as worthy of the Top 32 if that demonstrates you only have one arrow in your quiver, so to speak. But, since all the judges are new this year, perhaps that won't be a problem, as I doubt anyone could have really anticipated that.

Keep in mind that the first year was not PF & we had very little idea what to expect but feel free to laugh at my Battle Idol. Cerberus Collar isn't as laughable, but the third attempt, the Blademorph Baldric is. I think the Smokesting Firegeyser did better than the Rime Trap Amulet. Number 6 (yeah I've been here seven times now!) was also a step backward :)

Yeah, wasn't actually suggesting it as a good strategy; just pointing out that there seemed to be a loophole where it could be done.

A point to ponder.

This competition steps it up every year, markedly so this year. So, before you resubmit an item, at least ask yourself honestly, this question...

"If this item didn't make it last time. With stronger competitors, do I really think it will make it this time?"

You owe it to yourself to learn from your attempts and try a new item every year.

I'm surprised my first attempt last year landed me as an alternate. I still like that item's general idea better than this year's entry. I wish I could give it better mechanics, but I decided it was best to push forward with something new.

Star Voter Season 6, Star Voter Season 7, Dedicated Voter Season 9

I ended up submitting for the first time last year. But the item ended up being so complicated mechanically I barely had room for fluff. And it would make any GM's life incredibly hectic and difficult. And there'd probably be plenty of ways to abuse it. And the DC is based on scaling ranks. And it has a massive AoE... So, not surprised I didn't make it, but it was worth the try and I regret none of it!

Amulet of the Herald
Aura strong enchantment; CL 11th
Slot throat; Price 10,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.
Description
This ornate gold and silver choker lays snug against the throat, resting squarely against the windpipe. When speaking, your words slip past the hearer's defenses and intentions, begging them to listen.

Three times per day as an immediate action, the wearer can activate the Amulet of the Herald to treat all Hostile and Unfriendly sentient creatures in a 60 foot radius burst as Indifferent. The affected creatures cease all current actions and actively attempt to prevent hostility. This effect does not stop active combat. Under this effect, creatures are susceptible to negotiation and can understand each other as if they shared a language, even if they do not. The Diplomacy skill can only be used to make requests while under this effect. The DC for Diplomacy checks is based on the creature's original disposition. Any hostile action by either side, direct or indirect - including actions that place the other party at a disadvantage - negates the effect immediately. This includes allowing hostile actions to take place or fleeing. Once affected, creatures are no longer flat-footed.

The effect lasts for up to 1 minute, at which point all dispositions return to normal. A Will save with a DC equal to the wearer's Diplomacy modifier negates the effect. This check is made once, against the creature with the highest Will save modifier of all the creatures in range. Creatures that cannot hear are unaffected.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, calm emotions, suggestion, mass, share language, sanctuary, creator must have 10 ranks in Diplomacy; Cost 5,000 gp

Well I've already shared my first entry (Spirit Bottle) and last years entry (Scarf of Battle Trickery) so I might was well share the three items that came in between...

Sphere of Searing Smoke
Aura moderate abjuration and conjuration; CL 9th
Slot --; Price 30,000 gp; Weight --.
Description
This perfectly formed, clear glass sphere is about two inches in diameter. The sphere appears to be filled with roiling smoke shot through with occasional flashes of flame, and is always warm to the touch. When held in the hand the sphere protects the holder from fire, each time the holder would normally take fire damage subtract 20 from the damage dealt. Additionally, the orb grants its holder the ability to see normally through smoke, steam, mist, fog, or other such concealing clouds, though it will not aid in seeing through darkness or other non-cloudy forms of concealment. Finally, the sphere is very fragile, and it can be shattered by dropping or throwing it against any relatively hard surface. Should the sphere break, it will explode in a small puff of flame and smoke, the smoke will then rapidly expand into a thick cloud with the same dimensions (and effects) of a fog cloud spell. Inside of the cloud, and unable to leave its area, a large fire elemental will appear and attack anything living that is also in the cloud. The cloud and elemental will persist for a maximum of 18 rounds, with the smoke dissipating earlier if the elemental is slain before the 18 rounds have passed, if the cloud is dispersed earlier, such as by a strong wind, the elemental will vanish as well. Of course, breaking the sphere in this manner destroys the item.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, Extend Spell, resist energy, summon monster V; Cost 15,000 gp

Spindle of the Moirai
Aura moderate illusion, and necromancy; CL 9th
Slot --; Price 50,000 gp; Weight --.
Description
These sewing spindles are made of bone and wrapped with 6 feet of a fine thread. To use the spindle the bearer must measure out a foot of thread and apply a needle to one end there after the user can target a living creature within 100 feet.
Each of the following afflictions can be tried, as a standard action, once per target:
Gesturing toward his eye with the needle the user can cause the target’s eyes to be sewn shut; the target takes 1d4 points of damage and is [blinded]* unless a fortitude save (DC 13) is made. This blindness lasts until the stitches are removed (a full round action).
Gesturing toward his mouth the user can cause the target’s mouth to be sewn shut; the target takes 1d4 points of damage and is prevented from speaking unless a fortitude save (DC 13) is made. Creatures that have their mouths sewn cannot make bite attacks or speak (unable cast spells with verbal components or utilize command word activated magic items). This condition lasts until the stitches are removed (a full round action).
Finally by cutting the thread the user can try to slay the target. The target must make a fortitude save (DC 17) or take 12d6+9 points of damage, if the save is successful the target instead take 5d6+9 points of damage. This is a magical Death effect. Once the thread is cut that particular target can never again be targeted by that spindle. Cutting destroys a foot of thread and once the sixth foot is cut the spindle loses its powers.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, blindness/deafness, silence, slay living; Cost 25,000 gp

*added for clarification here, the word blinded was accidentally cut from my entry, and I didn't notice until after I had posted it.

and

Ragamuffin Cloak
Aura moderate transmutation; CL 9th
Slot shoulders; Price 24,000 gp; Weight 1 lb..
Description
This long multicolored woolen cloak is frayed, tattered, and covered with patches. Despite its shabby appearance the cloak is a very useful item; the wearer can cause the worn cloak to move and grasp of its own accord. The wearer gains a +5 competence bonus to Climb and Sleight of Hand checks, and can use Sleight of Hand to attempt to lift small objects from targets up to 10 feet from her current position. As a standard action the wearer can use the cloak to attempt use one of the trip, steal or disarm combat maneuvers against an opponent up to 10 feet away without provoking an attack of opportunity. All standard rules of stealing, tripping and disarming apply, save that a failed disarm attempt will never cause the wearer to drop the cloak. Finally the cloak gives the wearer a +5 competence bonus to CMB and CMD when grappling. Unfortunately, because of its odious appearance, the wearer suffers a -2 penalty to all charisma based skill checks where appearance or social class might be a factor.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, telekinesis; Cost 12,000 gp

one note of interest is that (before this year at least,) all but one of the items that I entered started with the letter 's' Spirit, Sphere, spindle, and scarf.
