And she's already campaigning for the role.
Plus, she'd be pretty good. She's already done action stuff (in CAPTAIN AMERICA), she's British, she's got a LOT of fan support and she's a reasonably big name and well-known enough to do it. The only thing that might count against her is her age (32), since the new film is rumoured will be based on the new games which depict Lara at the start of her tomb-raiding career, in her early twenties. However, that would also rule out all of the other-mentioned actresses as well.

Look, Kthulhu & I actually agree on something! ;-) Yes, she must have an authentic British accent (some aussies do, too), and not be anorexic.
Hayley Atwell might work.
Anna Popplewell is a good choice, needs a little work with a personal trainer.

Wolverine is Canadian. Just FYI.
I've always wanted to see a cartoon where they played up his being Canadian even a fraction as much as they usually do with Kurt or Piotr (who speaks English without a Russian accent in the canon, although it would surprise me if anyone at Marvel knew that anymore...or cared).
The rather dreadful cartoon from the 90s seemed to be under the impression Logan was Australian. Which is kinda screwed up, given that the voice actor actually was a Canadian.

I think it is a general problem: with the US leading the industry, non-Americans have to learn a variety of American accents and get good at them. American actors learn one non-existent British accent which is less effort than Dick Van D##&'s comedy cockerney in Mary Poppins.
Maybe it's a misconception but Americans seem pretty happy with House and the leads in The Walking Dead.
I'd actually be really interested in hearing which Brits have done awful US accents?

If the movie is going to be anything like the last two, then just tar and feather anyone planning on being involved in the project. Nip that right in the bud right now. Movies based on video games are so consistently bad that there's no point in making them just because one might buck the trend.
Wing Commander wasn't that bad..oh, wait a minute..

I kinda liked the first one. It was hardly Oscar worthy, but it was a fun film. Jolie was great.

Everyone's entitled to err on the side of their own personal tastes, but I stand by my opinion that the only thing worse than movies based on video games are video games based on movies.

Sorry, but after looking up Gemma, I have to say, "Maybe?"Especially if they go with the more realistic Lara of the reboot, instead of the blowup doll of previous games.
Of course, Gemma also has the right assets to play either.

Gemma can't act for her life. Let it at least be a decent actress for once.
Yeah, I can't say I was all that impressed by Gemma's acting skills. Then again, all I've seen her in was Clash of the Titans, and I get the impression everyone in that film was dragged down by a poor script and bad directing.

Gemma Arterton is likable enough, but she's not a very good actress. Hayley Atwell, OTOH, can act and has played a reasonable variety of different roles in her careers: in the US she's probably best known as Peggy Carter in the Marvel movies, which she plays pretty straightforwardly, but she has a much wider variety of roles on TV and in other films here in the UK (like THE SWEENEY, where she played a much more morally ambiguous kind of character).
I don't think Lara needs to be played by a Brit, though. Jennifer Lawrence might be good, if she can pull off an English accent and darker hair (and her Katniss look isn't too far off anyway). It would also further her clearly evil masterplan to be in every single movie franchise ever, simultaneously.
I stand by my opinion that the only thing worse than movies based on video games are video games based on movies.
There's been a few. ESCAPE FROM BUTCHER BAY is easily the best bit of the RIDDICK franchise apart from PITCH BLACK itself, though technically it's an original story, not directly based on CHRONICLES itself although they came out at the same time.
For games based directly on films, ROBOCOP 3 was absolutely amazing for the time. A 3D action game based on shooting bad guys (and not civilians), driving, flying with a jet pack and so on. It was pretty cutting-edge at the time. Some of the early 1990s platformers (BATMAN and so on) were pretty good as well.
These days the disparity between film and game production times makes it impossible to make a good, AAA-quality game based on a film; you'd need to start making the game a year or two before the film started production to get them out at the same time.
