Crafting a Sword

Advice

So, I'm wondering if there is any support, in Pathfinder, for a character that makes there own weapons and modifies them. I was thinking of things like the artisan craftsman feat from Faerun, which let you create a weapon with a basket hilt, etc.

Any ideas? My google-fu has failed me.

How do you mean "modify"?

Flavor, or mechanical?

as far as i know it just falls under craft (weapons, armor, bowyer, fletching),a dn you fluff what the weapon's appearance is. it doesnt change the weapons statistics any, so a rapier with a basket hilt is still a rapier.

there's weapon accessories in the adventurer's armory (the weapon cord sees a lot of use in gunslinger circles), if memory serves. you could craft those with the weapons and offer/use them as a package deal i guess.

A bit of both, really. Change the appearance of the weapon, but offer a mechanical bonus at a cost, and require ranks in Craft (Weaponsmithing) to make.

Are you a caster?

Nope. Just a good only melee character who likes to smack things with the weapons that he makes.

If you are not making a Magic Weapon, then all you need is some ranks in Craft.

Otherwise, there are a number of other ways to craft Magic weapons, without dipping into a caster class.

Beware, it takes a long time to make masterwork items. And working with special materials like mithral and adamantine takes even longer.

I have a player in my campaign playing a blacksmithing fighter, and, because of all the inconvenient interruptions, it has taken him almost seven weeks to create a masterwork bastardsword.
