I can't up-vote an item that reminds me of both a Young Ones episode and a very bizarre type of fetish/porn, and would only have very limited in-game use. Sorry, no no no.
So, I've been away all day - is the really, really expensive one still in the pool?

Dear RPG Superstar contenders:
I have noticed several fairly expensive items in the line-up that, well frankly, they don't do anything. Sure, you have a list of effects there; I've read them. However, there are no game mechanics at all being manipulated by your item. There are probably zero level spells out there, or possibly even (expensive) mundane items that can replicate what your item does. So the question becomes: Why should I shell out money for this item instead of getting myself a really good magical sword? If your item's abilities amount to little more than the flavor text on other items that actually provide an in-game benefit--which is what magic items are supposed to do--then you're really not giving me anything I'd want in a book of magic items, let alone something that's Superstar.
In short, if you're going to enter next year, you really need to take a close look at the items that have made it in previous years. Really.

Look, I don't care what you think of your fancy description. No one is going to pay 2000 gp for a item that does nothing but make them look pretty.
Especially when I already look pretty.
*hairflip* *swoon*
Its a godly looking fictional character using a bifrost generator!

Indeed. Why would I pay 2000 gp for an item that just makes me look cool when I can buy a +1 sword that can make me look just as cool, with or without filigree.

We meet again, item of spontaneous encounter summoning. Now if only I could get the longshot from defeating the opponent, then I could beat the water temple.
Just drew a pair of 297-word items, both of which ran out of room and had to yadda-yadda stuff at the end.
Man, people really like Calistria this year. Where's all the love for Nethys?

It is the even year. It was decided to hate Nethys on even years.

Hmm. There's a new magic item that deals with rules I haven't seen items use before. Nice to see some novel ideas at work. It's got some mechanical issues (like not knowing which item slot that item actually occupies), but the originality is there.
That totally does not come from a certain anime.

The inspiration is so obvious that even giving the meme reference would probably identify the item enough to DQ me.

So...that item deals with an issue very specific to your particular game.
I now understand why everyone is talking about turtles ... kinda
1400 comments since I logged off early this morning. You guys are prodigious. I can only imagine how many posts there will be when everyone is snowed in tomorrow...
Wondrous not "wonderous." Wondrous, not "wonderous." Those squiggly red lines under the word before you hit the submit button should have been enough of a clue.
Don't forget to play in the snow! And no it's not alright to think about frost damage or anything having to do with wall of ice.
Just build a snowman already (and try not to animate it!).

Ah! *Kicks snow* You're no fun! :P
Yeah an item that basically says "GM figure something out for this items mechanics!"
Fail.
You don't need to repeat the item's name as your first full sentence.

Yeah, anything that requires the GM to do more work is not good design.
We're not getting any snow over here. Luckily I've got other things to distract me, especially since I'm turning into the Simon Cowell of RPG Superstar.
When, oh when, will gnomes ever live down the reputation of their cousins on Krynn? It's racial stereotyping, I tell you.

Some cool haunt related items this year and some not so cool.
Why do I keep finding items that bold the first sentence of the description?
One item, 2 item names... Must be really good...
Maybe it's because it can be equipped to TWO, yes count them, TWO different slots...
Not just good... Epic...
Garrick Williams wrote: Why do I keep finding items that bold the first sentence of the description? Bad formatting.
Just voted for one of the not so great butterfly items. *sigh*

You can't vote for a turtle. You can't vote for a turtle. You can't vote for a turtle...
But the other item is just...AGGGGGGGHHH!
The turtles are starting to grow on me, Lord help me.
Okay, that item is cool. Simple, precise, low-powered but with a definite cool factor.
I found the Doctor Who one... I haven't even watched it but I'm pretty sure this is it.
"Rei di Tutto. But you may call me Ray."
I have yet to see a butterfly item or one of the super expensive items.
An item that essentially makes you Tweedle Dee as long as you can find some sucker to play Tweedle Dum.
Any rogue would buy this item by the truckload.

Oh hey, this is actually a simple, creative item that's well-written to boot!
Okay ... This item I could use in real life.
I'd gladly go up against Tweedle Dee... That is unless Tweedle Dum is in Da Haus...

I saw an item that was referenced several times on this thread.
