Ways to Fly (PFS-Legal)

Advice

Is there a list anywhere of the options a PFS-legal character can choose from to obtain flight, whether temporary or permanent?

I know of the obvious and inexpensive Air Walk/Fly/Overland Flight spells and their corresponding scrolls and potions, of course. And there's Gaseous Form/Wind Walk for a similar effect.

There's also Wings of Flying (54,000 GP), Broom of Flying (17,000 GP), Carpet of Flying (20,000+), and Winged Boots (16,000).

But that leaves kind of a gap for the working-class adventurer who can afford a bit more than a potion, but isn't quite in the five-digit GP range. What else is available?

gee, there's four different oracle mysteries: fire, wind, heavens, and dark tapestry.

there's the witch's flight hex

you can ride around on a flying eidolon. you could also ride around on a dire bat or pteranodon

there are a few different sorcerer bloodlines: elemental air, draconic, infernal, and celestial, although most of these grant flight very late

there are feats for sylphs (which are restricted in PFS) and aasimar (which aren't)

uh...I don't think there's a flight-granting mutagen

you can wild shape or otherwise transform into something that flies.

there's celestial armor

I think the spell phantom steed an fly at higher levels.

you could summon a monster to pick you up or carry you

for a NetHack reference, there's probably a figurine of wondrous power that'll do it.

that's it off the top of my head

Try this link:

d20pfsrd search page for "fly" narrowed to equipment

1. This doesn't tell what is PFS legal but if you start looking at the individual links to descriptions the pages linked should list (at the bottom) the source and you check it against the PFS list of legal sources.

2. This is a search using "fly" and thus some things will not meet the criteria of a magic item that lets you fly and it might miss some also.

3. Because of the way magic items are priced (often caster level x spell level x a constant in some form or other) there is going to be a price gap between lower and higher level items. There is a big difference between potions and items as the spell level increases.
a.) 1st level potion 1*1*50 =50, 1st level continuous use spell item 1*1*2000=2000, 2000-50=1950
b.) 3rd level potion 3*5*50=750, 3rd level continuous spell item 3*5*2000=30000, 30000-750=29250.
Huge difference even if lessening with charges, etc.

alchemists have a wings discovery available at level 6

2nd level spell in potion form Alter Self will let you fly for 3 minutes a pop. Choose Strix as the form and not only can you fly you can run while flying too.

The Beastmorph archetype can allow you to add flight to your mutagen.

Alter Self can't be made into a potion, being a Target: Personal spell.

2PP for a potion of fly is the most common method of flight I've seen in PFS? Never leave home without one.

Cheapest possible method of flight would be the feather token (floating feather) at 450 GP. Wings for one minute.

There is an item called wings of flying. I believe it costs a little over 50,000gp, however. Kind of a big deal. The other down side is that it occupies your cloak slot, so the wings will suffer. ... Aaaannnnddd I don't think alter self will let you fly even if you do turn into something with wings, will it?

But, IIRC, it only works if you and all your gear have a combined weight of 200 pounds or less.

Had a PC with early access to this, on a chronicle, bought it, and never used it, until he thwapped it onto a (lightweight) Monk ally during a special so the monk could fly.

It is amazing how often, except to get to weird places, a ranged character doesn't need to fly...

Alter Self doesn't let you fly. But a combat-trained Dire Bat is large and only 450 GP. Large and smaller Animals from UE are society legal.
