no 6 sided challenge!

Advice

i HATE HATE HATE them.

as an example. making a char, 4 6 sideds, drop the lowest, i had these stats.

10,10,10,8,5,5

i know, im amazing. its like this whenever i have to use 6's. so my challenge to you! fine folk of the paizo pathfinder advice board! is to create a character that if possible, never has to use 6's...ever.

and if you can propose a alternate way to roll stats similar to how we do it listed at the top, without using 6's, bonus points!

also just to say it, 12 sideds are my friend >.>

Roll your d12, divide by 2, rounding up... You now have a d6 that is friendly to you.

On the note of stats, instead of rolling 4d6, drop the lowest, I'm planning on having my group roll 7d3, drop the lowest. (To get a d3, roll a d6, divided by 2, rounding up.) This gives minimum scores of 6 with maximums of 18 and a MUCH lower probability of rolling anything below a 9, as the stats will be concentrated between 10 and 16. As a side effect, the chances of getting 17's and 18's are also lower than if you rolled 4d6, drop the lowest, but only by about 1% chance for each, so it's still possible.

There's a thing in Way of the Wicked called "Focus and Foible" that works as a rough 25 PB equivalent:

Focus and Foible wrote:

Choose a Focus, an ability score at which you excel. You receive an 18 in that score.

Choose a Foible, an ability score that is your weakness. You receive an 8 in that score.

The other four, roll 1d10+7 four times in order. There are no rerolls or moving of ability scores. Those are your other four scores.

maybe i did your 7d3 idea wrong.

13,10,9,9,14,14

my d6's REALLY dislike me. ill try the d12 idea maybe

Just use point buy. Problem solved completely.

I once used the following version, which tended to produce tired wrists and high scores: Roll 3d6 6 times, distribute as desired. If you're not satisfied, just roll new scores. Here's the catch: When you start rolling scores, you'll have to write them down, and you'll have to roll all six scores, even if you can see that this one is not going to produce good results.

There was something very like this in the brilliant Lace & Steel game!

I think I'll start using 4d6 (maximum 18).
