New PCs after Mythic attainment

Wrath of the Righteous

I got posed this question by one of the players that I will have for my Wrath of the Righteous game, and I was not overly certain how to answer.

It's easy enough to bring a new PC into a game pre-Mythic, but what is the best way to handle the creation of a new PC (either due to a previous PC kicking the pail or a new player at the table) once the current PCs have become imbued with the vestiges of the wardstone's power and become Mythic? If this has happened in your games (or to you, in the case where your character has been the one turned into meat for the grinder), how has your group handled it?

EDIT: Sorry, I am at work, so I will expand very quickly. I suppose it boils down to both the mechanics of it and the story behind bringing a new Mythic-level PC in.

Mechanics-wise, do the new PCs come in at same level and same tier as current PCs, or one level and/or tier lower than the current PCs, or something else?

Story-wise, how have other groups fit in the emergence of a new PC with Mythic abilities? Spontaneous Mythic ascendancy? The former PC was hiding just outside the Gray Garrison when the wardstone was destroyed?

I guess I'm just trying to get a feel for how it might work in the eventuality that this will happen at least once during the game. I'm aware that Mythic PCs are hard to kill, but eventually a couple of lucky shots might actually cut short the Mythic destiny of a PC, and I'd like to have at least some sort of idea on how that would best be handled.

You could introduce a new PC who had recently used the Mythic Founts in Mythic Realms and found himself coming north to the Worldwound to help with his newfound power. They wouldn't have a campaign trait, but they'd still be mythic, and their access to unique mythic path abilities could make up for their lack of a trait.

Liberty's Edge

5 people marked this as a favorite.

A poor sap just happened to be caught in the reverberation of the wardstone's destruction. He got astonishing abilities that he could not make sense of and feels drawn to the PCs (who are his "mythic" twins, for being reborn as mythic beings through the same extraordinary event).

Note that it doesn't even need to be near the Gray Garrison. Any location near or within the wardstones' perimeter of influence would do. Actually, you can consider that the destruction (and release of Mythic energies) was such a metaphysical big thing that it caused a surge of power in all and any mythic founts (including dormant ones).

So your new PC can come from any place and be of any background really. he just happened to be in the right place at the right time ;-)

Scarab Sages

In my non-wrath game, we've come up with a similar issue. I really wish MA would have covered good themes to bring in additional mythic PCs who weren't there with the rest of the party's moment of ascension.

I like The Black Raven's idea - and if it comes up, I'll be using that, personally.

I would treat it like the Quickening from Highlander, except instead of other mythic characters getting it, it instead flies off towards the nearest dormant immortal...er I mean dormant mythic PC.
