Weapon Finesse and other feats

I have a sorcerer PC that chose Weapon Finesse. Does he also need Martial Weapon Proficiency to use a rapier? Or Exotic Weapon Proficiency to use the spiked chain? I seem to remember reading somewhere that you could use a aldori dueling sword as a finesse weapon IF you had the Exotic Weapon Profiency feat. But the core rules don't say that about the other weapons.
Many thanks.

If you're not proficient with a weapon, you will take a -4 penalty when you use then weapon, but you can use your dexterity modifier with it.

Aldori Dueling Sword (and Sawtooth Sabre) are special weapons that can be used with less than exotic proficiency (I believe both count as longswords), but have different abilities with the additional training of an exotic weapon proficiency. Those weapons could not be used with your dexterity modifier without the additional feat.

If you're not proficient in a weapon, you take a -4 to hit with it.

Weapon Finesse does not grant proficiency with anything, it just lets you use DEX instead of STR for attack rolls.

So Weapon Finesse will let your sorcerer use DEX instead of STR on attacks with a rapier, but he'll still have to deal with the -4 for nonproficiency. But at least he's not facing -4 AND using his (probably lower) STR to hit.

The thing with the Aldori Dueling Sword is that without EWP, you treat it as a longsword, which means you can't use Weapon Finesse with it (you'll always use STR to hit).

Rapier is still a martial weapon, so you need proficiency with it.

Weapon finesse just let's you use a weapon you're proficient with in a different way (dex to hit instead of str).

Edit: ninja'd!
