I wonder if it gets old for the Paizo staffers. Sometimes all they want to do is just join in the conversation and talk gaming, but have to weed out the 50+ "OHMYGOSH OHMYGOSH OHMYGOSH" comments.
I could be wrong though. Here's a funny related story:
So, I'm at a concert and meet up with a buddy of mine. He's in a signed, professional metal band, and at the moment he's home between tours, so we meet up at a show.
We're standing by the bar, and these young guys come up, see my buddy and go "excuse me, aren't you _____ from ____?" He just grins and goes "yeah, that's me" and poses for a couple of pictures with the fans. This totally made their day.
After they leave, I ask him "Does that ever get old? Even out in public away from the band?
He tells me "Nah man, that never gets old."

I'm sorry you find our requests that the people who use our messageboards meet the minimum bar of being reasonably civil to one another to be "pathetic" and "whiny."
Nobody said this or anything resembling this (in the sense that you mean, anyway).
I think you need to look at the phrase "pathetic whine" in the context of the preceding posts.

All of the phrases that were listed apply at one time or another TOZ.
Yes, including "pathetic whine".
The "joke" that I was advancing here, and I believe some others also understood, is to play on the discussion of whether the Pathfinder "rules" are "guidelines" or not, or if there is actually a difference at all.

The way I read it (and seems like it was intended to be read) is that the "rule" is more of a "guideline".
Or perhaps a "suggestion", an "admonition", a "despairing plea" (please follow the rule), or a "pathetic whine" ("PLEAAASE follow the rule" followed by tears of despair at all the jerkery going on because people won't follow the rule).
The confusion seems to stem from the dual definition of "pathetic" as being a slur rather than just a statement that it is pitiable or heart-wrenching.
But that's just me.

Maybe when I haven't spent my weekend time cleaning up ten pages of people ignoring that rule, I'll find some humor in the situation. Right now, however, I'm disinclined to laugh at it, and I'm a little disgusted that you find our polite requests to abide by the terms which you agree to by using this website to be "pathetic whin[ing]."

Then you are disgusted by your own lack of reading comprehension Jessica because that is not what I said. And I'm tired too so I don't feel like trying to explain it to you again, beyond pointing out that the "pathetic whining" I was joking about was when other posters (not Paizo staff) attempt to use the "don't be a jerk" rule to shut down debate when they are not liking the way a discussion is going, not because someone is actually being a jerk.
So it wasn't even directed at you.
And again, it was a joke. In a string of multiple other jokes playing on different interpretations of the word "rule".
I frankly am amazed that you fail to understand that.

In that case, your reading comprehension of the posts you were replying to was flawed.
The people above you were talking about the way that we have phrased our rule.
Moreover, I'm pretty sure that had it actually been the case that you were not referring to us, you would have pointed that out originally instead of trying to do it now.
Not buying it.
At the end of the day, however, you're not required to like either the rules or our tone in reminding people of them; you are merely required to abide by them. So, think whatever you like. I'm done discussing it with you.

You may want to consider that this post is not following Rule One. There are plenty of other ways to phrase disagreement.
[edited to follow rule one and avoid hypocrisy]

These things go both ways. Misrepresenting what I said and describing the reaction to it as "disgusted" is hardly following "rule 1" either. Being a member of Paizo staff is not a pass to be judgmental and rude either. Especially in a sequence of posts that were clearly attempts to be humorous.
OK, so she didn't get the joke. I probably shouldn't have challenged her reading comprehension since I had already questioned her sense of humor. I'll apologize for the reading comprehension comment, but I am pretty sure I won't see an apology for misrepresenting my post and calling it "disgusting."

Always use the term straw man in every thread, just in case. It is trying to beat Godwin's Law in an internet race!
90% of statistics are made up on the spot, but still at least 87% of uses of the term "straw man" on the internet are just as erroneous as 93% of the use of the term "fallacious."
