I am looking at going to the North Texas RPG Con in June (Bill Webb strongly suggested I go last year when I picked up my Sword and Wizardry books from the Kickstarter but just to short of notice) and also thinking about giving Paziocon another shot.
I usually do Gencon (don't play Pathfinder as have so many other things interested in) and went to Paziocon 2011 (I think it was that year).
Do we know what dates it is in 2014?

Hmmm.
So as a Pathfinder on line subscriber, would I be better advised to attend this or GenCon?
If I have other residence in Seattle, how easy is it to catch bus to this con? OR must I take cab? If I have rental car, what are the parking costs?
What are the conference costs? Is it single cost for all or cafeteria per item or entry plus cost per item? Coming from So. CAl I am used to one cost for 3-4 conference.

It's hard to be sure this far in advance, but I suspect Pathfinder Online programming will probably be similar. You'll probably be able to get more one-on-one time with the Pathfinder Online team at PaizoCon, though.

The hotel is a short walk from the light rail. There is a daily cost for parking onsite; I don't recall what it is, but it's kind of spendy.

We haven't announced ticket sales for PaizoCon 2014, but 2013 tickets were $50 in advance and $55 at the door; we also had a banquet on Saturday night for an additional $25.

Is dinner something to bring non-gamer SO to, or is the $25 for vulcanized chicken with game oriented social access?
If others have non-gamer SO, are there coordinated (or guidelines) Seattle events they can share? (I do love some of the tourist destinations and the Boeing Museum)

Any estimate for when the room block will be opened? I'll be going to PaizoCon and Dragoncon within about 7 weeks and would love to figure out exactly how much my bank account will be hating me next summer. ;)
Yeah, I'm going through the same exercise, too. At the moment I think my cons for the year will be PaizoCon and WisCon...which I expect to be a rather eclectic combination.

No no, that'll be 2015 when I try for the trifecta: PaizoCon, DragonCon and GenCon ... I should probably start saving now (and make sure my clients have no issue with me being inaccessible off and on for a week at a time over a 2+ month period). ;)

Actually, the meal in 2013 was the best so far for the banquet. That said, do expect a fair amount of gaming related discussion at the banquet tables ...

Woohoo! Just booked my room, too. I will be arriving on Wednesday night (the second).
In case anyone's curious, with the con rate, it looks like $122/night including tax and fees and stuff, with parking an extra $22 on top of that.
When's the call for submissions for games going out? I dunno if I want to bother trying to be in the lottery this year, but I'm already started working on the two I'm planning on running: A Call of Cthulhu game set in the Cu Chi tunnels during the war, and a Pathfinder (slightly modified) game based on the Eye of Argon.
Can't wait to see what the crew of Babe gets up to next year!

Seattle is really beautiful in the summer. There's a light rail station close to the hotel that brings you right to the heart of Downtown Seattle. Seattle also has a port that cruise ships leave from. Maybe do a short Alaskan cruise before or after the con?
Or you can even take the Clipper over to Victoria for a few days...that's what we did for my honeymoon.

Well badge purchased as well as banquet ticket.
I decided to go with Holiday Inn a block away since a Platinum elite member with IHG and get free upgrades and usually a breakfast and parking.
Of course nothing set in stone but at least planning on it.
Saw previous years that the badge and ticket were refundable if plans change so hope it is the same just in case.

A question about buddies: last year my son and I had buddy tickets, and played all our games together (and it was one of the most fun things we've ever done). This year I may be bringing him and a friend along.
Is it possible to link more than two badges together? We probably won't be at the banquet, so that aspect doesn't matter, but I'd really like for us all to be able to play together.

This is the verbiage used for the buddy system from PaizoCon 2013:
You may request one other PaizoCon attendee as your "buddy." The lottery will ensure that you and your buddy will always be assigned to events together. When you make a buddy request, your buddy will be sent an email asking them to accept your buddy request. They must accept your request before the lottery begins.
The buddy system is intended for guests who need to attend PaizoCon events with another guest such as a parent and child. Because the lottery system can only place buddies in events with two or more open seats, it may limit the number of events available for two buddies to be placed in.
The buddy system only applies during the lottery—once open registration begins, you are responsible for coordinating your schedule with your buddy.
So, it looks as though you will only be able to have one buddy for the lottery. It is unlikely this will change, as this would allow for entire groups to take up a single lottery event instead of letting more people have the opportunity to get into a desired event.

Yeah, about what I thought. Thanks for the quick reply!

I was temped to start a new thread but this may get a better response. I was tempted to do my first cosplay at Paizocon, however I have decided to fogo this and perhaps do it next time around.. mostly a cost issue. I would rather put the money into vendors and goodies etc.
So here is my question, about how many that attend are 'in character'?
Sara Marie Customer Service Dire Care Bear Manager |
There are definitely cosplayers, though some years have seen more than others. We always love seeing people in costumes, especially ones designed after specific characters from books or adventures we've published. If you (or anyone else reading this) does come in costume please make sure you find a Paizo staff member to take your picture and we'll put it up on the blog.

I'd say that for the Friday Night event (whether special/grand melee/convocation) we usually get close to 10% costumes. Not a large segment, but a much admired one. Myself I've gone in costume one year in five, my spouse two in four.

How does having a 16-month-old with you affect your APL?
It only counts if they are rolling the dice in an attempt to role-play another character. I don't think this will be the case. Not rolling dice in an attempt to pacify baby. Let him/her (baby) get his/her own own character down before trying to RP someone else. Congrats on starting him/her out young on a cool hobby.
Honestly, its pretty noisy in the room that I wouldn't be surprised that the child may cry and become fussy or cranky from it. But its also pretty noisy in the room so crying is not going to really be any louder than the din in the room anyway. YMMV. (Don't take my apathy as bad parenting) For your enjoyment at the table, I hope you have a co-parent that can trade off.
