I'm waiting for it to come out for PC in about six months, with all the kinks ironed out.
I am a PC gamer usually. Games like this though I pick up on console on the off chance I can play online with my non-PC gaming friends. Anyways a buddy of mine picked up the PC version and you can absolutely tell the game was designed for console and ported over. The controls on the PC version really suck its a rare time I prefer the console version. I know you are president of the hate console club but I thought I'd let you know the game plays better on console as a PC gamer.

I have to agree with everyone so far. I am normally a PC gamer, but I got it for the PS3. I haven't lost any cars yet, but I did enjoy the switching of characters, but the heist system was excellent. It may of only given you two choices when doing a heist, but at least it's a choice.
I finished up all the missions this weekend and it's not 4's story, but still a good storyline overall.

I have a question: The box says, in addition to Online Multiplayer, "Cooperative". Does it mean the game has some sort of couch co-op, or everything has to be online?
The online multiplayer is cooperative in the sense that you can participate in missions with other players where you work together to accomplish the required tasks. It doesn't mean that you get to play through the single player campaign with a friend. The online aspect of the game is distinct from the single player. But don't worry, it's incredible amounts of fun.

How about some online details folks? My buddies are slow to pick up the game but I cant wait to try out some bank jobs together!
I'll give a quick rundown. Mind you, all of this is based on two weeks playing the F&F playtest, and I'm sure some of these things were changed for the final release. I've started playing the release version earlier today but haven't gotten very far in it yet.
So you create your own character (you get to choose gender, age, even some basic genetics by choosing the appearances of your parents and grandparents, and then you have to divide up your character's typical day into activities that define your starting stats). I don't think anything "locks you in", since as far as I'm aware it's totally possible to cap out all your stats.
The game drops you into a short intro cutscene and then you're thrust into some starting activities. GTA Online takes place in the same Los Santos as the main game. As you level up more and more activities on the map will open up. Characters will call or text you with missions, but you're also free to just start playing "jobs" with other players at any time via a number of different routes. You will have up to 15 other players in your "session" (instance of the game world), but there will usually be fewer than those (or maybe not; the F&F playtest was sometimes pretty sparsely populated while the release version is very active today).
Things do work a little differently that the single player. In single player you can very quickly amass a veritable fortune with relatively little effort. Large sums of cash were harder to come by in GTA Online. You also will want to purchase garages and homes to store things (though I'm not sure whether they've fixed the garage bugs yet).
The first few jobs do a good job of filling you in on the things you need to know, but make sure to read all the tips that pop up in the corner of your screen.
If you find yourself running through a job with a great group of people, keep playing with them. When a job ends you'll be shown a screen that allows you to select the next job you want to play, and everyone in your group will be able to vote. Rolling with this process can generate a lot of cash and RP in a relatively short amount of time.
Also, don't underestimate NPC enemies. They take a LOT of shots to go down, and they will ruin your day if you don't use cover religiously. Fortunately, if you die during a mission you can use the Quick Replay feature to try again. They're never particularly long.
Play with friends and play with a crew.
If you find yourself on the wrong end of the island and don't want to drive/cab back, start a quick job that takes place near where you want to be. When it ends, you'll be dropped off near the job's location.
Don't grief other players, you'll be forfeiting the good behavior bonus cash and eventually (supposedly) problem players will end up with only other problem players in their sessions.

I enjoy switching characters in the main game just to see what the other characters are doing at the time. They have their own lives, and sometimes its pretty funny. So far, I switched back to Michael as he was fighting with his wife in the car, Franklin as he was enjoying the strip club, and Trevor as he was being kicked out of a lingerie store while wearing a dress.....

One last question for ya. Is it easy to get into an instance with your friends? Or are you completely at the mercy of random instancing.
From what I understand, the game will selectively insert friends/crew members into the same instance, with some additional random players. It's imperfect (since your friends might have other friends whose instance they've joined), but you should see friends and crew members fairly often. Remember also that you can use your cell phone to call friends and crew members, even if they're playing the single player campaign.

Since the patch on Saturday Ive had no issues playing Online. Its a great time. Best thing to do is Join or Create a Crew; which can be done on Rockstar's Social Club site. Theres an option from the pause menu to "Join Crew" and when selected it will take you to a map with your Crew members. You can also begin a Job and select "Invite Crew" which will send a text to your Crew no matter which map theyre on and they can then port to your game. You earn more RP doing Jobs with Crew members as well.

I finished my story mode before Saturdays patch. I think you are right though Codder my buddy at work says he cant find any story missions and he is only half way through story mode.
I need to find a crew ASAP. My friends are really slow to adapt this game and I am so tired of public instances. Folks are incredibly rude on mic but that's nothing new.

Well after work I did the only missions that were still marked on my map, the rampage missions. Now those are repeatable and still no other missions have opened up. Since I know I won't touch online, the game right now is totally unplayable to me as I can't advance single player. I'm not the only one with this issue.

Well there was a update to the game, but that did not fix my single player issues. So the only other lead I have in game is a text mike has that says Franklin needs to steal the jb 700 car from a movie studio. I cou;d'nt remember where the studio was, so I look online and when I found it, there was a video walkthrough on the mission. But in game I go where to trigger the mission and NOTHING. So I can't do any new missions, at all. VERY FRUSTRATED. Rockstar has not even said anything about these single player issues since the big online update last Friday.

I feel you, as I have the exact same thing. Sadly, I think we're screwed my friend. Rockstar has said that they can't (or won't) fix single player corrupted saves, which is apparently what we have. It's extremely frustrating to have an online patch screw up your single player game to the point of unplayable. I'm not sure if I have it in me to start over, especially when there is no way to tell if this will happen again.
I never thought this would happen with rockstar, and I never bought a game with this kind of issues.

I did a support ticket to Rockstar about my single player game. They sent ne back some ideas to try. I did try them and nothing. So I told them it did not work. So what do I get back from them? A stock answer on how they are fixing the ONLINE issues.
WTF.
Are they even reading these trouble tickets? I told them it was my single player offline game.
Salama, I think you are right, we are screwed. As far as I know, Rockstar has said nothing about these single player games getting screwed up with there patches.

Thing is, it was corrupted due to a patch from Rockstar. They should have tested more to see what the patch should do instead of rushing it out.
Would be nice if for a change, Rockstar decided to be a man about it and admit they messed up instead of just saying nothing.
I had over 40 hours played. I really don't want to play through that again. The patch did'nt just mess up one save file, but the auto save too.
Sorry for the rant but I am very upset about this. Not sure I want to buy another Rockstar product again.

Stiehl9s |

I think it has plenty of replay value as the Heists for one can be done two different ways usually.
I'll admit that I'm biased as I've had loss of save file issues and I've played roughly 40 hours or so Online. Although I did wait a week or so before starting and have followed their guidelines for saving. Fingers crossed that it keeps working.

Finally got this last week, and finished the story mode last night. Very enjoyable game, and I'll be eager to get 100% on it at some point in the future.
I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to have more heists in the single player mode. A few more minor ones where you could build up the skill of your crew (and maybe get to know them) would have been nice. As it was I just used the same few people on each job, as there were so few heists that I didn't want to risk one of them on a less able crew member.

Salama |

Oh yeah, lot's of replay value there. But I already invested 50 or so hours in it, and just wanted to see how the story goes, not to do it all over again...
So, this little patch of theirs ruined this game for me. It's been collecting dust since the saves corrupted, and will do so for a long time. Maybe forever, since I'm in no mood to play the same missions again...

Well I just got an email from Rockstar saying since they have not heard from in in 7 days, they think my issue is resolved. I messaged them again saying its not resolved. I reminded them that I did message them 7 days ago after they sent me a stock answer on what they are to fix the online issues. Even thou I have told them a number of times in this ticket report that this is an offline, single player issue.
I am really glad Rockstar is listening to the issues the players have been having. This has been the single worst video/ computer game experence I have ever had.
