Hmmmmmm Kobolds then muahahahaha! Or gnomes that works too.

Tobaris: Working on Shathach the atrophied Lich and Hob.
Having trouble getting Shathach to jell.
With Hob, given NPC classes are CR-1 (half classes) and mythic tiers are CR +1/2 (sort of a half class) would you be okay with Hob starting as a Expert1/Archmage1? I like the idea of him starting as a character working towards becoming a godling, and would really like a mythic tier towards that.
Okay if answer is no.

This is what I have for Shathach so far.

Background:

Shathash was a powerful spellcaster in the age of Thassilon. Obsessed with the acquisition of knowledge and power he successfully researched and achieved Lichdom. Then - for some reason - he tried to kill Karzoug, Runelord of Greed.
He failed.
Karzoug assembled a special prison for his would-be assassin. Locked in a chamber with no ability to move while one of Karzoug’s experiments slowly ate the memories and knowledge has had sacrificed everything for.
The flaw was time. The creature was immortal, but after a thousand years had eaten almost everything. The only new memories were those formed by reading and contemplating the words. The creature would hibernate, carefully nibble those memories and try to eke out enough nourishment to survive. Eventually it slipped, ate too much and unkowingly ate Shathash’s knowledge of Thassilonian. With nothing to ponder the once-proud lich simply stared sightlessly at the wall past the thought-eater’s death and the rise and fall of civilisations.
Without magic, without movement, in the dry chamber’s air the lich’s body atrophied to match his mind. Only his eyes and voice were spared - Karzoug had been thoughtful enough to protect those with his own magic, for he wanted to make sure Shathash could see, hear and scream.
Eventually a rogue undead broke into the chamber. Assuming Shathash to be a simple skeleton he broke the wards and Commanded Shathash. With no reason not to, Shathash complied.
He accompanied the rogue for a little while, relearning the basics of language, until a battle with Duskwardens saw its demise. The duskwardens mistook Shathash for a Death’s Head Talisman controlled vassal, and when they issued orders holding the rogue’s amulet he compiled. Rather than be destroyed he was taken back to the surface and sold to Ankar-Te.
Recognising him as a superior skeleton a young necromancer bought Shathash. Shathash had by this point learned enough to pretend a mindlessness he did not have. He did show that he had some skill with calligraphy and corpsecraft though (reflexive skills the thought eater could not take) and was prized by his master.
Several decades later his master was destroyed by an apprentice golemcrafter who caused the master to bitterly regret not memorising feather fall, levitate, flight or teleportation in his long though rapid descent to the ground at the base of Kaer Maga’s cliff.
Shathash had long had a plan for what to do in the event of his master’s death. He took a few small items, his meatsuit, and fled.

Personality:

You are Shathash, being punished for trying to kill Karzoug.
The first thing I remember is staring at the words. I don’t understand them, but I spent an indeterminate period staring at them and they are burned into my mind.

I spent a lot of time simply existing. When my last owner was alive I had the ability to surreptitiously read his books on philosophy. There I found the principle that every creature had a purpose. I pondered mine. Eventually I realised that when I still had my memories I had had a purpose that involved killing Karzoug. Presumably that me, complete with better information, had a reason to do so around a purpose. Therefore, lacking other information it was reasonable to assume that was still my purpose.

Knowing that it became possible to assemble a plan. First, I must not be destroyed. Secondly, I must learn all I can of Karzoug and myself. Thirdly I must find Karzoug. Fourthly I must be in a position to kill him.

Each of these expand out into more plans, goals and strategies. Until the death of my owner I was best served using his resources to acquire knowledge. With his destruction I have an opportunity to attempt to gather power and allies.

On three occasions I have had an effect used on me that has filled me with a powerful and illogical compulsion to do something or change my behaviour. While indisputably detrimental to optimally rational behaviour I found the experience was something I am inclined to re-experience. I believe this may be that which books term “emotion”.

I have no emotions. My reading leads me to believe that the Undead do not actually have emotions as such, merely echoes of emotions and learned behaviours based on memories from when they were alive. Lacking all memory of my time as a living man (skeletal evidence and voice pitch strongly supports a male gender) I do not appear to have emotions at all.

Atrophied Lich:

Atrophied Lich is found in The Varnhold Vanishing
Atrophied Lich (Ex) A lich that remains immobile and insensible for extended periods of time... can grow atrophied. The exact effects of atrophy vary from lich to lich. ... until [the lich] achieves at least 11th level as a lich, his phylactery is unusable–if he is destroyed, he crumbles to dust, forever dead.

So - the difficult thing is the disguise.
I've bought it as a masterwork disguise kit at the moment.
Plan was that the character is a skilled Cropsecrafter (taxidermist). He took a fresh dead human, skinned it, preserved the skin then carefully stuffed it and sewed it into a suit. Shathash wears the suit all the time. Being preserved it doesn't rot, but doesn't look quite right.
Having no sense of shame he's got a vagabond looking half-orc body he has smell of urine and alcohol.
The face proved the most difficult due to humanoid facial expressions, so he uses an obvious mask and claims to have had his face ruined.
Still won't protect him from Detect Undead, but probably the best he can do.

Unfortunately I don't have the Mythic books and until it's up on the PRD I can't make any calls on it. SO i'm gonna have to say no for now.

As for Shatash:
I would consider allowing one of the items you 'inheirited' to be an amulet of life aura. Which causes you to detect as living to all things except where the caster level is 10+ higher than your own. It gives your features an awkward but passable living cast. It will also cause undead to see you as living and treat you accordingly

i finished my char. as far as mechanics go (i'm using a fighter) and i should be done with my back story soon.

Fair enough.
I like what you said about hiding the deadness being fun.
Given Detect Undead is a spell that doesn't see a lot of use everyday, I thought he might be able to get through with the suit.
Does the suit fit the style of game you are looking for? Does the character? Shathash is right out there as far weirdness.

This is Kaer Maga... Everybody fits!

Dotting for interest. I've played straight/hybrid casters in all of my recent games and would like to try a pure martial character. I'd like to reserve a spot if there's still room :)

The suit would work fine especially if he avoided Ankar-Te. He will be interesting thats for sure. Especially if he discovers some of the less well-known truths about undead in my campaigns.

no reservations but when I think I have enough ready characters I'll post who is in.

Submitting "Dex Roman" [Barbarian] for approval. Using the Random Background Generator.

Background:

Dex has traveled far and wide from the village of Toss in search of a new place to call home. Born a bastard, he killed his step-mother in a fit of rage during one of her drunken ramblings.

Along his journey, Dex made some earnings as hired muscle in small towns. It's in one of these towns, that he stole the gaze of a bride to be when she was attacked. A quick lie, and she left everything behind to travel with him.

Now in Kaer Maga, Dex and his lovely companion, Delane, seek to find a new life together.. by any means necessary.

Scarab Sages

Ok I'm sorry for not replying. Would there be any possibility of a LE wayang/hobgoblin character? (the wayang will be a wizard (evocation school) while the hobgoblin will be a monk)

EDIT: Scratch the nagaji and the wayang. I was thinking of a CE male aasimar wizard (evocation) with a toad familiar?

EDIT (sorry!): I was thinking of a kobold bard...but then I realized that they have the light sensitivity...

If there is still room I am thinking of a sword saint. Wanted to ask before I started building, plus wanted to know if a katana is considered a finesse able weapon sense that would effect a good deal.

Let me know. ;)

Ready to go

Alright we have a lot of guys ready and a few more interested so I'm going to set my decision day for the final lineup on Friday, it will come in the morning and I will start game on Monday.

I would consider a Wakizashi a finesse weapon but a Katana is a weapon that relies more on strength, graceful strength yes but still strength.

A kobold would do fine in Kaer Maga a lot of it is indoors and a hat or shades could help outside.

Alright I will have something for you later today in more detail.

Scarab Sages

Okay, do you need me to do the Background Random Generator, cause I already have an idea for a background in mind.

I'll be back to post the info of Saurtaok, the Silly!

EDIT: is it okay if Saurtaok can have the Jester Alternate Racial Ability? I think it would best fit his character.

I give you.. Roman Dex (decided to switch the names around)

DM sent you a PM. Man weapon and armor eat up gold fast. ;P

Tobaris: How do you want to see Shathash? Remember he'll be pretending to be alive most of the time.

Updated Roman's background.

Background:

Born a bastard in the village of Toss, Roman has always known the feeling of being alone and unwanted. He was taken in by his father after his mothers death at the age of 10. His new mother acted like she cared for the boy while in front of his father and siblings, but when they were alone she would beat him and call him names. This went on for 5 years, none in the house any the wiser. During one of his beatings, something snapped inside of Roman. He felt anger and hatred start to build and he lashed out to his new mother. He doesn't remember much of what came after that. All he does remember, is standing over her. Blood dripping from his hands and a feeling of satisfaction coursing through his body. Scared, he fled Toss as quickly as possible.

Roman spent the next 10 years traveling. The desire to settle down great, but the fear that someone would find out his dark past even greater. Being naturally strong, he was able to make coin in the numerous towns and villages he passed through as either a bodyguard, day laborer, or anything else that could use the added strength. It's in one of these towns that he met her. A woman so beautiful, he decided to stop traveling just to stay near her. There was a catch though, she was betrothed to another man. A wealthy man that had mixed up with the wrong crowed. Fearing for his soon-to-be wife's life, that wealthy man started looking for someone to protect her. It didn't take long for Roman to hear of the request, and to insert himself as her bodyguard. He spent the next few months as Delane's personal bodyguard. It was an easy job. He never had to raise his fists to anyone, that is, until he overheard Delane's fiance as he devised a plan for her death, soon after their marriage. For the second time in his life, he lost himself in the hatred and rage that built up inside of him. And, for the second time in his life, he stood over a body, blood dripping from his hands. Fear raced through him, as he didn't want to lose Delane. So he did what he had to do. He lied. It sounded plausible after all. He was hired to protect Delane for this specific reason. The group her fiance was involved with, finally came to collect, and killed him. It was only logical that they would come for Delane next. So they ran. They took what they could and left the city as fast as possible. For the second time in his life, Roman was on the run.

They spent 5 years running together. Delane was grateful that she had such a dedicated bodyguard. One who's employer, now dead, still carried out his task. Whether she knew Roman's true feelings, or was naive to them, it didn't matter to him. He was with her, and that's all that mattered. Roman and Delane have decided to stay in one place for a while, and what better place to hide away than in the city of Kaer Maga. Here, they can disappear into the shadows, and Roman can hope to rid himself of his past... for now.

PM me the proper sheet and make a cover alias if you could Harakani.
That alternate ability is fine Vyranos

Did you want the sheet in a certain format?

Changed some stats around selected an ethnicity.

I added some fluff, may add some more. Still reading up on Kaer Maga. :)

@Roman Dex
You may want to recheck your sheet. I see a number of things that are off.

Hmm, which specifically? Everything looks fine to me.

Open below.

Specifically:

180 gp to start
150 gp Chainmail (+6 AC, +2 Dex, -5 ACP)
20 gp Greataxe
3 gp Javelin (3)
7 gp left

So your AC should be 18 not 17. Your Will save is at +2 it should be +1 sense your Wisdom is 8, that takes into account Iron Will. Your skills need to be adjusted for armor check penalty. Acrobatics +1, Climb +2, and Swim +2

Let me know if I am mistaken.

Soru Shisen wrote:

Let me know if I am mistaken.

Sorry, I'll need to update my armor. It should be scalemail, not chainmail (all skills/ac are set up for scale). Correcting Will save (I keep thinking Iron Will is a +3, not +2 :()

Ok guys I've got the list and it's just about everybody interested but I think it will work fine.

Herrnarrel Kennadusk
Aeryn Thane
Krixus
Shathash
Soru Shisen
Roman Dex
Have fun talking until Monday I'll start game then.

Woot! Any chance we could get a tavern thread up so we could mingle before we start, or is that going to happen at the start time?

Yeah we may want to get our story of how we met each other down. Sense we are such a motley crew. :D

So let's see... To give everyone OOC a basic rundown in case you haven't had a chance to read everyone's bios (Name, class, reason for being in Kaer Maga, goals):

Herrnarrel - Elven Evocation Wizard - ran away from home, interested in blowing things up (preferably for a profit... amusement counts)

Aeryn - Human Bard - women/noble troubles, looking for his exiled love

Krixus - Orcish Fighter - born and grown in Kaer Maga, acting as hired muscle to get by

Roman - Human Barbarian - running from justifiable murder in order to protect his ward

Soru - Yokai Animus Samurai - self-imposed exile from his last home, attempting to find a place to belong in the world

Shathash - Undead Necromancy Wizard - hiding and gathering information, planning on killing Karzoug

Did I miss anything?

Yeah Soru is not above creating his own gang and taking over a district. If Kaer Maga is to be his home he should make it comfortable. More in mind then just new drapes you know. ;3

So any ideas how so and so met? Soru makes money by being a sellsword so I could see him crossing paths with Krixus and Roman. But Herrnarrel, Aeryn, and Shathash would run in different circles I would think.

and i'm not on that list.......oh well, you win some you lose some.

I'm pretty sure I can play into whatever scenario we need, but one possibility I can see is that Krixus and/or Soru were hired to bring me in on real or trumped up charges to whatever faction hired them... a misplaced Spark combined with some gunpowder could get me into a lot of trouble.

Edit: Similarly, a well placed Spark could provide the right distraction for Krixus/Soru to grab someone unnoticed and get me in good with some people.
