Background:

Soru Shisen was born in Minata the Wandering Isles upon one of the nameless islands. He only ever knew his father and two siblings as family, his mother was rarely if ever mentioned even then only vague words were given. His father was a rather successful trader with his own small ship to visit other islands. It was common for at least one of his children to go with him on such trips, if only to see things and learn away from their own island home. During one such trip to a particularly sinister island Soru was deserted by his father. It was not long before the source of unease on the island was made known to him. For the island was the home of a powerful ghost, oddly enough it did not harm him but rather cared for him. So it remained for years as Soru grew under the care of the ghost Shisen. Taking his undead parents teaches as well as name for his own surname changed him in many ways. He grew strong, skilled, and mindful of things. Living by his own code and caring little for the ways of others, after all he was abandoned by the living and nurtured by the dead. A simple fact that would go against those who thought themselves righteous and his savior vile simply by their condition. Still in time Shisen could no longer ignore the passage of time, nothing to him but of great value to his ward. The ghost called to the waters with his undead power to raise a vessel for Soru to reach a place of the living, so did Soru make his way on mist covered waves to Zo Piaobo. Upon his arrival he met Tai a priest of Hei Feng and quick friend to Soru. It was not long after that the two spent nearly everyday in each others company, Soru would even take minor jobs on behalf of his friend and the church of Hei Feng. During one such job when he was to deliver a portion of the yearly tribute to Hei Feng, ill luck found him. A woman he had been seeing and felt strongly for was being handled roughly by a fisherman, normally he would have restrained himself in order to resolve the situation yet his feelings for the woman took over his good sense. He cut three the man's fingers off in an instant as a warning only to find him to be the husband of the very woman he was seeing. Fleeing from his shame and reaction he was late and scolded for his work. His friend Tai was far from happy yet he listened and took it upon himself to heal the fisherman to make right the damage done. In time Soru was forgiven by Tai and it was quickly put in the past. Yet Soru desired change and growth, which he felt he could not truly know in his latest home. So he took it upon himself to travel, not only Tian Xia but beyond to the lands of the west on the other side of the world.

After taking a caravan job over the crown of the world and heading south he found Varisia. He found Riddleport to be chaotic and without honor of any kind. Magnimar to be overstretched and a political mess. Finally with Korvosa giving him the impression of controlling, arrogant, and petty people full of greed. His spirits low as well as expectations he turned to the strange and diverse Kaer Maga of many rumors. Upon first seeing the city he was in awe of it's ancient might. Soon after entering he found the vibrant life of the city and it's great diversity unconcerned with who or what you are to be both refreshing and akin to his own outlook. With reservation he thought he had found a true home, he would simply have to work to find or make his place in it. As ever he turned to his sword, selling his services to earn a living and establish a reputation.

Faction Relationships:

Arcanists' Circle- Soru has had little dealings with this group, playing the part of bodyguard and secure transport but a handful of times. The mages act more like merchants and leave well enough alone in his experience.

Ardoc Family- Having visited Bis on business and seen the people, Soru has a good deal of respect for the Ardoc family. He finds them fair and honorable in their own way. He does not mistake their position as a powerful gang for more then what it is. They are concerned with their own wealth and profit above all. None the less they serve the people well.

Brothers of the Seal- While he can understand sticking to one's beliefs. Involving others who have nothing to do with it is foolish at best and vile at worst. Never having dealt with one of the brothers personally Soru has had to fight them off on more then one occasion. If nothing else they provide a stable stream of bodyguard jobs form those wishing to travel the Oriat district in safety.

Commerce League- Foolish and greedy merchants of the worst kind. He finds them to resemble the golden league of his far off homeland yet without their structure, power, or united nature. As such he see's them to be unbeneficial to the city and a cancer. He refuses most jobs form them and discounts his price to those against or free of their influence.

Duskwardens- There is no organization in the entire city that has earned the respect Soru reserves for the Duskwardens. He see's them as noble protectors of the people who ask little if anything in return. His only regret is that their are not more of them and that they keep their focus solely below the city. He has offered his services free of charge at times, witnessing first hand their impressive skill.

Freemen- Soru gets along well with the freeman, not that he has any stance on slaves. In his homeland there are those that serve and those that do not. It is a matter of choice in his eyes, so long as that choice is not made for them he considers it just. Still he finds the Freemen to be hard working and honest in their intent and views. So he makes a point of avoid any direct slave work.
